Truly a five star in terms of infrastructures and service ! Food is extremely good and it offered a huge variety to please all tastes ! Staff are amazingly friendly from the buffet - special recognition to Fabian who was very attentive and always with a smile on his face ! - to the reception! When we had a small issue with the room safe - not only it was promptly sorted but also the reception staff cared to called to confirm we were happy with the outcome ! The only thing to be improved was the room, as it needed some maintenance work - the bath and the air conditioning were not working on perfect conditions.
Just got back from our 9th trip to Mexico and our 5th trip to the Bahia Principe, we've stayed at the Akumal 4 times and Coba once. This resort just keeps getting better. Very clean and well maintained and staff is great. Checkin took 5 minutes and check out took 2 minutes. Bellman took care luggage and drove us straight to room and picked up at room. Property is just beautiful and beach is great. My wife and I are early risers, we would walk around the 4 resorts and got to see lots of wildlife before the bust day starts. Got to monkey hanging out one day. I upgraded our room to the junior suite Deluxe (I highly recomend) and I emailed the resort a week before we left and let them know it's our 5 time back and gave them some building choices. They put us in building 82/83 on 2nd floor. Just awesome we had our own butler, Fabian was awesome took care of everything. Largest room we have had, huge bathroom and bed was very comfortable. The air worked great had to turn down sometimes. That building was adults only area with own pool and breakfast and lunch restaurant. Pool was nice and bartenders and waitresses kept your drinks full. We only went to one alacart restaurant the Grand Tortuga Brazilian and it was awesome. We like the buffets, lots of great food and so many different kinds. Try the different buffets at Coba & Tulum. If traveling with kids hit the main pool at the Coba has great kids water park, I would recommend staying at the Coba. Very kid friendly, at night the main sports bar has video games and other games for kids. Take in the nightly shows, try different ones at Coba and Tulum. Most are very good. The Magic show is awesome. Take some time and look over the resort map over drinks when you check in. There is a nice lobby bar overlooking the main pool. Get familiar with where everything is. The shuttle will take you everywhere, just look and make sure it's the shuttle you want. Says on top of shuttle or ask, very friendly staff willing to help you. We've done many day trips, this time we did the ATV'S in the jungle with swimming in the cenotes which was awesome. We saw lots of wildlife and monkeys on trails and the Cenotes were very interesting. If you like to snorkel we went on snorkel trip to the Isla Mujeres. Lots of, we saw nerf shark and sea turtles. Read the reviews with care and remember you will be in another country. Yes the food and customs are a little different but it's a great place, just enjoy. Hope you enjoy your trip!
Bahia Principe Akumal Hotel Resort and Beaches.
Just coming to the end of our first trip to Riviera Maya Cancun Mexico an our overall impression of the Bahia Principe Akumal is very good and we will definitely be back. We had a rocky start after being put in a twin room, but this was rectified after 2 nights to no inconvenience to ourselves and on entering our correct room we found a bottle of sparkling wine. It was apparent that the room error was not just with ourselves. The hotel grounds are spotless, accommodation could be improved, flower beds on balcony had more cigarette dimps rather than flowers, but to be fair we didn't use the balcony. Maid service and butler service in the room was impressive. Mini bar and room service all included in cost. All staff, from bar staff, waiters/waitress, ground staff, butlers and transport staff where so friendly and accommodating. Food, well if you cant find something here to eat then I'd say you are very fussy and will struggle anywhere you go. Buffet choice was great and the abundance of restaurants on offer was endless each serving a'la carte. The dolphin experience in the Bahia Principe Talum was fantastic and worth every penny. However I wouldn't recommend the turtle trip as viability was very poor. One massive downside but to no fault of the hotel was the seaweed issue currently going on within the ocean. The effort everyday by the hotel and the staff to clear what they can is very impressive but unfortunately an endless task. To finalise, an onsite sports bar (although the one in the Coba is good) would be a great addition and would be better than travelling to the Coba. Also the Gym needs a massive update/improvement, for the size of complex the gym is a big let down, with dated equipment. This would be a 5 star with these improvements, but for now it'll have to be a 4 star. One last thing,Coco Bongos a crazy night, but a must visit.
Very nice place to stay!
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone planning on visiting the area. I highly suggest you pay extra for an ocean front room. It’s worth it! For suggestions, I would recommend that the drinks be better quality. Also, a menu that is more available in every area so that we know what drinks are available. The food at the buffets was not great (to be expected) but the service was wonderful. Everybody in the resort was so friendly! Always smiling and very helpful. All of The drivers of the carts were very friendly and accommodating. Carmen, the server by the infinity pool was such a ray of sunshine. She was always smiling, always friendly, and very good at her job. The rooms were always cleaned very well and mini bar was always stocked. We were impressed by the speed, quality, and follow-up of the room service. I loved this place!! The true hero’s are the guys that clean the beaches though. This makes the whole Resort very inviting!
Recently returned from a family trip to Akumal via our privilege club membership. As always the concierge and staff at the privilege club were above and beyond our expectations! We were even offered a wonderful dinner on the beach at Tequila, our waiter Didier was wonderful and it was a lot of fun. All of the staff at the Privilege lounge and beach were attentive and friendly. Our concierge Diego was very helpful and great with our teens. Tried many restaurants during our stay, our favorite buffet was the main one in Akumal and thought our dinner at Dolce Vida was delicious. My brother-in-law felt the air-conditioning was not adequate in his room but my husband and I didn't have an issue. It's hot and humid weather so the room often had a dampness to it but no odor. Our one complaint was with the gray water sprinklers. They were active near our buildings during early afternoon, at times the smell could be overwhelming. But, the landscaping was immaculate! We have stayed at Sian kaan, Tulum and Akumal- each has it's forte but we enjoyed them all!
