One of our best beach vacations ever!
For context, my wife and I are a couple in our mid/late 50s and we stayed Nov. 2-12 in the Brisas Club section. We have vacationed all over Mexico but this was our first time to Huatulco. We try to leave the sort of detailed reviews that we would like to read when we are researching our next vacation. Apologies if it's too much for some. Property overview One of the original hotels in the area, Las Brisas was built as a Club Med. It is a medium-sized property (by our standards) with an excellent shuttle system to take you to/from restaurants, beaches, pools, etc. The resort is built into the side of a hill and while it's definitely walkable, those with mobility issues will want to use the shuttle service. When choosing Las Brisas, we strongly encourage you to download the resort map from their website so you can see what we mean. Beaches and pools The three main beaches are outstanding -- this resort's greatest asset, without question. The sand extends right into the water and there is no need for water shoes. There is a reef immediately off one of the beaches and the snorkelling is excellent. If you have your own gear, bring it! You can also get gear from the resort. There are three pools (main, adult-only and "activity" pool for kids). The pools were quite warm, too warm for us, and we suspect they may be heated. When it's 33-35 degrees every day, you want to cool off in the pool, right? Not here. Nonetheless, as I say, the beaches are the place to be at Las Brisas. Food and drinks Food is so subjective that it's almost not worth even trying to review all-inclusive offerings. We found the food to be pretty good but nothing to write home about. There was a good variety at the main buffet (Bellavista) for all three meals. We found the a la carte restaurants were fine but again, nothing special. The Kasbah is an interesting idea and we applaud the resort for trying something different but we're not sure it works. It's one of those Moroccan-style places where you squat/sit at low tables which doesn't really work for a lot of people. The drinks were great everywhere at Las Brisas. Had no complaints and didn't hear any from others. Rooms As mentioned, we were in the club section which is terrific. Specifically, we stayed in the Mar section which faces the far side of the bay. This is another reason to check out the map on the hotel website... you will want to know where all of the different rooms and buildings are located. It's important to know that some buildings are farther from the restaurants than others. Once you get back to your room, depending on where you are staying, there are no places to eat or drink nearby. Staff The staff of Las Brisas is excellent. We were so impressed with how friendly and helpful everyone was. From the shuttle drivers to the food and beverage servers to the guys who set you up with sailboats and kayaks, everyone was absolutely top-notch. A special shout-out to Derman at the concierge desk who helped recover my cell phone which I left in a taxi on the way back to the resort. He acted quickly and decisively and made sure the driver brought it back to me. He truly cared and it showed. Derman and his colleagues are a HUGE asset to the resort. Shows/activities Las Brisas has a large and impressive theatre and there were three or four full cast performances during our 10-day stay. It was the usual fare -- a Mexican show, a music-through-the-ages show, etc. -- and it was all very well done. The other nights were trivia contests, battle of the sexes, dance contests, etc. As with most Mexican resorts, the activity crew that usually works the show are workhorses and they deserve huge kudos. All of this activity is centered around the Bar Las Brisas which is the main bar and the only one open in the evening (closes 1 a.m.). This bar is located directly below the lobby/reception/check-in desk and once again, it's the only option if you're looking for a few drinks after a dinner or a nightcap. There is a disco on the property but it was closed. Water sports We have to mention this because if you want to get out on the water, Las Brisas is great. Their Hobie Cats are all is excellent shape, as are their single and double kayaks. You get an hour with each piece of equipment and more if it's not busy. We are sailors and own a boat, so we took a Hobie Cat out four or five times. One day, a pod of dolphins raced us an arm's length off our bow. It was the highlight of our trip! Other amenities As mentioned, this used to be a Club Med. There are more sports facilities at Las Brisas than any other resort we've ever stayed at. There is something like 12 tennis courts, all under lights, plus pickle ball, soccer, volleyball (sand and asphalt) and basketball. Surrounding area Santa Cruz/La Crucecita is a 10-minute taxi ride from Las Brisas. Cost is 60 pesos (about $4 CAD). Worth visiting for shopping, watching a game or just getting away from the resort and walking around. Good food, too. Good pizza at Mama Mia and La Crema. Xipoli, which is a sports bar directly below La Crema, has all major Canadian and American sports TV packages so you'll always be able to catch the game there. Guest demographics While our kids are grown adults and don't usually travel with us, it's clear that this is a good resort for families. There is a kids club that we didn't check out but we did see lot of families during our stay. In terms of nationalities, most guests appear to be Mexican nationals, followed by Canadians. Some Americans and Europeans but not as many. Summary We enjoyed our stay and recommend Las Brisas. It's great for families and for couples or individuals looking for a nice, middle-of-the-road, sun destination experience. The food could be better but it's fine, and the beaches and other aspects of the property more than make up for it.
Best Massage with Señora Coco- Great Service!
This is our 3rd time visiting Las Brisas Huatulco and each visit has been even better than the last. Their are many reasons to love Las Brisas; excellent location, great service, and overall great value. The Spa has been upgraded since my last visit. I came in for a 90 min personalized massage and was given one of the best massages I’ve ever had by Señora Coco. She made sure to combine the right amount of relaxation and deep tissue massage techniques to improve my mental and physical wellness. If you’re looking for a great, all-inclusive hotel to relax in look no further than Las Brisas. Located right on the beautiful Bahia Tangolunda, it has everything you could ask for all of your resort and relaxation needs. (Don’t forget to ask for Señora Coco when booking your massage!)
Great beaches, good buffet. A la cartes only offered service later than we wanted as we have young children. Beach club rooms spacious and clean though showing signs of age. Nice big shower. Beds and pillows fine. Pool small but clean. Sometimes too loud in the afternoon with the loudspeaker. Service was adequate and prompt but not always very friendly. However Martin (my husband nicknames him Party Marty) was exceptional. He was the hardest worker we saw. Visit him at the snorkel beach. Most workers became friendlier when we attempted Spanish. Huatulco was probably too hot for us but if we come back, it will likely be at Las Brisas.
Relax and work in a wonderful place
Shompoo and shower gel not sufficient Pity not to have lunch also at the Mexican Restaurant and breakfast at the one dedicated to the water sports Possibility of taking shower before leaving the area after the check out
Great time beautiful experience
Beautiful location, we’ll take care of, good and plentiful buffets, excellent customer service. The hotel has very good night entertainment for everyone day and night. At the beach count with free and rental equipment to enjoy the day. They take a very good care of the cleaning on the beach and we love it. The only down side was to wait for the transportation to go down with some times took a while.
