This place keeps drawing us back!
This was our 13th time at this particular resort and our 15th time on the island. What can we say - we absolutely love this place! We came here on our honeymoon in 2006 and came back again to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. The place is absolutely gorgeous! The beautiful grounds and wild life are so special! The amenities are top notch! The scuba diving is world class! But let me tell you what gets us everytime- it's the staff. From the moment you get out of the shuttle the Bell boy crew - Manuel, Alex. Rolando, and Javier remembers you and gives you a big hug and welcome back! The restaurant crew - Cindy (AQUI!) Carlos Vidal, Wilbert - so wonderful! Bartenders - Orlando, Alvaro, Alicia - so great! Pool bar- David, Edgar, Adrian, Raymundo - you guys were great friends to me! LOL! And last but certainly not least - a special shootout to Yexmi and Alexia - 2 very special human beings that are among the sweetest people that we have ever met on this planet. No hyperbole there - just a fact! The Ribeye dinner that we had for our anniversary was fantabulous! So much more than we were anticipating! People were actually getting up from their tables to look at our dinner! Wow! Wow! And Wow! We will be back and hope to see all of these people again!

Unpleasant surprise.
This was my first time at this resort. The food was good, limited brand liquor brands, my room smelled musty the air conditioning and ceiling fan could only be controlled by the resort. Loved all the resident critters. What angered me was the day passes being sold to outside guests such as cruise passengers. One day the pool was over run with kids not staying at the resort but from a Disney cruise ship! I thought I paid for a guest only resort but I was wrong. I no longer stay at another resort on the island for the same reason. I won’t be back.

Great resort with excellent service, beautiful beach, overall property, and fantastic professional dive shop on site.
The beach and the property are in great shape and the service from every member of staff was impeccable. We appreciated JC in guest services, great housekeeping and friendly hard-working bartenders, and everyone from Dressel Divers on site (Pamela, Ricky, Koga, Eva, Juan, fantastic boat crew and every person on the beach does everything they can to make your experience perfect.) Room was lovely, we had a great view from poolside room, which was also a partial ocean view. November is a lower amount of people on resort I believe, so the meal options were not as diverse as we would have liked would be our own criticism. The taqueria by the pool has fantastic tacos, and there are a few snack options during the day. The buffets are really nice with lots of food and great Mexican cuisine, but yes I would have loved to have the option of more fish tacos. Bartenders are fantastic and will make anything you ask if they can. Not top shelf liquor options, but many many great cocktail options, including excellent margaritas, and chocolate and espresso martinis. The snorkeling is really good off the beach whether you do or don't also dive. You can see a lot of fish in those waters - I hung out next to a 4.5 ft barracuda under the dock and we just checked each other out for a while. The beach has many many chairs and options to be under a palapa if you choose; the sunsets are pretty. Pool is very busy with a lot of activity, maybe too much if you want it quiet ask for a room a little bit further from the pool deck. The grounds are just gorgeous to walk around, lovely plants and landscaping in fantastic shape they really do a nice job of keeping it looking nice. It was a great experience - we will return.

All great, apart a small issue with the room
Beautiful hotel, very green with a lot of animals walking freely. We enjoyed all the facilities, beautiful beach and swimming pool. Staff was always nice and helpful. Special thank you to Star camp staff, my daughter loved everyone there and always had a good time. Everybody was super sweet and activities was enjoyable for kids :) Food was tasty. Room was good, however it should be mentioned while booking if it is connecting room (we booked specific room due to a location we wanted, however there was nowhere info that this is a connected room - there was door between our room and other room, so we could hear other guests when they were in their room. It was a bit annoying. Thankfully the other guests were not very noisy).

This was my fourth time here with some issues this time
This was my fourth time at this resort in 6 years. Unfortunately this time wasn’t as pleasant as the other 3 times. Check in was somewhat delayed as we had to wait about 30 minutes in line. I had specifically requested a particular room, but was given an inferior one as the one I had requested many months ago had been given to someone else. I wasn’t happy with that. The staff was pleasant and once checked in we were quickly shown to our room. The rooms are somewhat small, but functional and pleasant. The air conditioner worked well and there was a ceiling fan. There was only one outlet near the bed so charging phones meant leaving it across the room. The bathroom was decent sized and clean. Water pressure was good. Lighting was good. The one very big problem with my room (which seemed unique to my room in the resort) was that the sidewalk had sunk into the mud and I had to wade through 2 inches of muddy water every time I entered or left the room. Yes it was rainy all week, but that is inexcusable. I brought it to management four times during the week yet nothing was done. They couldn’t even give me a piece of plywood or some stepping stones. Several pairs of shoes ended up being permanently stained with mud from trying to tiptoe through the muddy grass to circumvent the puddle. I felt more could have been done to alleviate the situation. My “yardstick” for complaining about a hotel room is this: would I tolerate it in my home? If not, then it is not acceptable. There was a large staff at the resort. Something more could have been done. They did eventually offer me a different room, but that wasn’t until Thursday afternoon, and I was leaving Saturday morning so it wasn’t a reasonable solution. The ocean view room was mostly a view of the dive shop and the roof of the building next door. I was NOT happy with my room location. Otherwise, the room was fine. A decent sized TV with some English channels. A fridge with some beer and pop. A safe was provided. The bed was comfortable. Drinking water was next to the adjacent building. We mostly ate at the buffet restaurant. There was always a wide selection of food and the quality was quite good. We did try the Mexican restaurant which was pleasant as well. The restaurant staff was excellent. We had a large group and they always got us a table to seat 15. At lunch, Cindy always greeted us and had a table waiting for us at the buffet. The snack bar pool side was pretty good as well if you didn’t want to clean up for the buffet. Burgers, hot dogs. Fries, and salad were available most of the afternoon. Bar service was very good. The grounds (except for my mud puddle) were quite nice. Lots of greenery and a number of animals such as peafowl, coatis, iguanas, flamingos, and parrots were roaming the resort. The pool was very nice. Clean and well maintained. The beach was quite rocky and where in years past there had been stairs to enter the water from the pier, those had been destroyed by waves. Most of us were there to scuba dive. The on site dive operation was Dressel Divers. They ran a pretty good operation, but were slowed down significantly by the severe damage to the pier by hurricane Milton. The dive boats were full, but not so much so that it was a problem gearing up. Dive masters were quite good. Lockers and rinse tanks were provided. The resort had a decent gym, but some of the equipment was showing signs of wear. Non motorized watersports such as kayaks and hobie cats were available for those that could use them. They had shows in the theater most nights. Some were quite good, but some were just OK. The entertainment staff was hard working and did their best, but the shows didn’t seem up to what I remembered from years past. This is not unique to this resort, rather it seems to be industry wide. The resort was generally quiet at night except for a couple times when there was noise from the dive shop next door. Apparently they had a compressor issue so they had to fill tanks all night long. Clanging scuba tanks could be heard in the wee hours of the morning. This was only an issue for the couple rooms adjacent to the dive shop. Check out was not too bad. Overall it was a nice week of diving. Except for the situation with my room I was satisfied with the resort.
