Must read review!!!!!!!!!
We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks and having travelled to many hotels were somewhat disappointed. The hotel is nice, the staff friendly and kept clean. The hotel is really a disaster waiting to happen. Let me explain!!!!. The main pool where there is a bar and music playing is really, really bad. In the days we spent around the pool it was very dirty, unclean and very warm, bathtub warm water. During the day people drinking and smoking in the pool, all our costumes got discoloured and went yellow. Drinks being spilt into the pool, there were dozens of empty glasses in the water and it just looked so bad. The staff made attempt to clean the pool walls that were going yellow using gloves and chemicals but we were swimming in this pool. NOT A GOOD SIGN. The hotel boasts so many a-la-Carte restaurants but almost all of them are buffet/ main course to the table. Not a-la-Carte, this along with the fact that there is no air conditioning anywhere in the hotel except in your room and in the “Cafe Rock” Which is where we would end up each night as the humidity was so high. The quality of the Steakhouse, Italian, Mexican restaurants was poor, only the Brazilian and gourmet Mediterranean were any good. The buffet restaurant were better than eating in a-la-Carte, better sticking there if you plan a visit, or the cafe “Rock” In addition, they serve the same food all the time, makes it boring and it’s behind other hotels in this. The hotels come as a group of Iberostar hotels and advertising images are misleading. Most of us look at pictures when booking but here they show 3-4 different hotel images and only when you arrive do you realise that you have been duped into the cheapest one and they charge you a lot of money to use facilities from the other hotels. The indoor pool is extra to use($150) I was asked to pay. “Doesn’t say that when you book” One thing that was very annoying was the concierge pushing us to sit into a long 2 hour timeshare scam that that try to sell you. (NOT GOOD!). Beware of wine staff in the restaurant as they approach you with a wine list and don’t tell you it’s a extra cost. We saw several holidaymakers angry, not eating there food, going to their rooms to get cash to pay wine bill. ?????????? The staff are friendly and rooms kept clean to a high standard. I would not recommend the hotel and suggest to perhaps try one of the other Iberostar but the “DEL MAR” really needs to sort out the issues with the poor a-la-Carte restaurant and it’s main pool (very bad ) The beach was bad due to the seaweed season, this can happen so not much you can do about it, they did try hard to keep on top of it and that’s a good thing. We only went to see the evening entertainment once in 2 weeks and had to leave due to the heat and humidity, so can not comment on it much. THIS COULD BE A GREAT HOTEL BUT SADLY IT IS NOT. Lastly, many people suffered from a tummy bug. This is a major problem in Riviera Maya area so please check with your tour operator as we do not want to spoil your holiday. (Do some reading on MEXICAN TUMMY BUG). I hope act on these comments
Everyone was accommodating. Had a little trouble getting the right room. We were put on the third floor with no elevator. Not good for senior citizen. But they did move us to a first floor room. Pool was great with many pool bars. Very cool. Beach was also great with great service and many activities. Dancing, volleyball, soccer & ring toss. Ocean was warm but much sea weed on the beach & in the water.
Great staff and many activities
multi family visit and we all loved it....from 75 years of age to 3. Nice restaurants and terrific staff. If you try to speak a little spanish and leave a tip or two it is even more special. Food good. Ice cream when you want it.....drinks whenever you want. Only negatives are smelly seaweed on the beach and no voice mail at the resort. Would our family go again.....YES,YES,YES
Always coming back with a smile on my face
I work as a cabin crew member in Germany, so my flights to Cancun are quite often. I am always excited to return to this hotel. The location of the resort is really nice and gives you the oportunity to do a lot of things, even if you decide to stay in the resort and not to visit the nearby cities. From the beginnng you get the feeling of vacation and it gets better: all inclusive vacation!! I personally enjoy laying by the pool, listening to good music and enjoying a cocktail. And this is what Iberostar Paraiso del Mar offers. Also speaking about the entertainment, the people who are responsible for it are really friendly and funny. They take care of the visitors, so that they have a really good time during their stay. Beginning with entertainment for kids and ending with live shows and musicals, the way you get to spend the nights at this hotel, are really nice. You can notice that the people who are there to entertain us and make sure we are having fun are working really hard and their main interest is our smile on our faces. Starting from Manuel then Carlos, Liliana and the other ones as well. Also the stuff at the reception, restaurants, bar and cleaning are friendly and polite. As I am travelling a lot I get the chance to experience the stay at many hotels and I would recommend Iberostar Paraiso del Mar for a nice all inclusive vacation.
Overpriced 3-Star Hotel, waste of time & money
No night restaurants. If arrived late go to bed hungry. Territory & Wi-Fi good. Staff friendly & helpful. Room's good. Room USB chargers not working. AC temp setting capped & couldn’t go below 70F / 22 C. Room controlled by energy saving sensors. Once left room, power shut down. In night time (due to lack of motion) whole room shut itself down. Had to get up & move around several times a night to keep AC on. Pools closed @ 7:00 PM. Night shows were cheap. Beach's sole & small for 4 Iberostar hotels. Lots of chairs on limited area. No privacy. Iberostar Del Mar & Iberostar Beach guests were not served on Iberostar Linda & Iberostar West areas. No access to ocean. Tons of sargasso (sea weeds) on beach & in ocean. Hotel doesn't take serious efforts to clean beach. Bar service horrible. Only 1 bar on beach. Just a few bars on territory. Majority of drinks're paid. No night bars. Cocktails were 95% water. Buffet Restaurant food could be better & was limited. Once dish taken, not served any more. 50% of food was hyper-flavored w/ cilantro, good way to mask not fresh food & reduce consumption. Water around Buffet Restaurant attracts mosquitos. On site restaurants were tasteless & below expectations. Good food was paid. Mediterranean restaurant: seafood soup seasoned w/ sand. Calmar w/ black rice had lack of Calmar. Lobster US$27.61. Mexican restaurant: poor. Japanese restaurant: crowded. New hotel management keeps reducing quality of service.
