This place has really gone downhill
I'm not a novice at Cancun/Riviera Maya visits having completed this 35th. 8 at this resort. No hit on the Iberostar chain...if you wish to spend more at the nearby Iberostar Paraiso Maya or Lindo it would be a great vacation. The good part was knowing people from the past such as Dahlia, Francisco, Roger and George. Thanks to lifeguard Carlos who tended to my scraped knees after a fall down the stairs in the dimly lit room corridors. The Japanese restaurant was great, and air conditioned. Dorada Mediterranean that we used to love was awful. Surf and turf used to be a good cut of steak and lobster tail, is now shrimp and shredded beef re-formed into a steak shape. The water served smelled like a goldfish bowl. No lobster is served unless you pay $40. David at check in wanted extra money for us to get a king bed which had never been an issue. Timeshare folks were more bothersome. Shows are just okay. Most meals sweat city as they are open air. I would avoid summer. Buffets have food spoiling all day long. Sadly the sargassum (seaweed) filled the waters ending any beach swim. No appreciation for repeat visitors here as evidenced by people we met on their 12th visit that had no more status than 1st timers. Grand Bahia Principe Coba allowed us VIP status at 12 visits and wish we had gone there again. Spoke to several people that stayed at the Valentin Imperial and said it was the best they had been to. May try that next. We won't come here again. Too many better options.
Overall really pleasant stay would definitely recommend!!! So worth the price (Lengthy review)
I booked with WestJet vacations and overall it was wonderful, especially for the price that we got! Absolutely worth it and more. Booking with a group is definitely a cheaper option. On the plane, you need to get the westjet app or else you won't be able to watch movies but it's only like a 6 hour flight so it was okay. Of course I was nervous about actually arriving in Mexico, but the airport was so lovely and nice and then there were people waiting for you outside of the airport for the Shuttle service and it is completely safe, I felt perfectly fine the entire time so did the rest of my group. The shuttle had wifi as well as air conditioning and the trip felt really fast since it was only one road and no turns. The hotel is stunning as well as the grounds (that is what everyone comments on) honestly the maintenance is incredible and the grounds are so lush and full of nature and life. The ocean had a lot of seaweed but apparently, that is normal this time of the year, but there are many pools in case you prefer that. We got the premium package for one day and it was fun and great for one day, but honestly, it was not necessary the hotel makes great drinks and the food is delicious everywhere too. I definitely recommend booking the restaurants on your first day after you check in or else they will fill up FAST. The Japanese restaurant was by FAR the best because you also get a show and the food was fantastic and Reyes was an incredible waiter. The staff at the hotel, in general, were all so incredibly friendly, helpful and kind! Also a riot, as well as the entertainers, they did a great job at the pools! Overall, it was a really great trip and I would definitely recommend this hotel especially as a budget -friendly option. It was so awesome and extremely worth the price!
check-in was fast and efficient. our room was ready on arrival BLD 12 which is very close to the main pool area. Two Bld"s down(Bld 10) was the beach- covered in seaweed. We were a 15 minute walk from the lobby, theater & most specialty restaurants. There were golf carts and trolleys that stopped regularly to take you to your desired destination within the resort, however on many occasions we walked to our destination before a cart showed up. OUR ROOM: 1244 was on the 3rd floor (no elevator) balcony overlooking the main pathway. the room was always cleaned, fridge stocked and lovely towel art decorated the room each day. The bathroom was dated but served its purpose well. The shower was a learning curve for us: you had to depress and hold the button for several seconds before shower stayed on. The temperature of the shower fluctuated while you were in it. There was never a shortage of towels or face cloths. Their house shampoo & shower gel was not very good I would recommend bring your own. The hairdryer was awkward to handle; you had to keep button depressed with your finger for it to stay on, and also it had 2 settings very hot and cold. THE BEACH: Would have been a beautiful beach if not for all the seaweed that accumulated constantly. I know it is beyond the resort's control over nature, but it visually takes away from the potential beauty of this beach. There were many palapas to choose from, also many hammocks too. There was a beach bar that served drinks, hamburgers and hotdogs. The water was very warm, the waves rough and the seaweed circled your ankles. We did not spend any amount of time here. THE POOL: was the nicest I have ever been in. The salt water pool is the largest in the Quintana Roo area, refreshing in the morning and like a sauna under the afternoon sun. The water level was perfect to my neck just covering my shoulders 4"9'. We walked the whole length of the pool taking us along different depths, different scenery, but Our favorite spot was by the entertainment pool & swim-up bar. The rest rooms were close by, an ice cream parkour was on top of the swim-up bar and the entertainment was fun to watch. The locals, while playing games with us referred to us as white chocolate and I thought it was hilarious. There was never any trouble getting a palapa by the pool we were able to secure the exact same spot everyday except for 1 day. One thing I did notice and was not impressed with and that was 3 women smoking in the pool and flicking their ashes in the pool....disgusting. SPECIALTY RESTAURANTS: We did 4, but was told we could have as many as we wanted. We chose 4; 1) Japanese(the food was ok the experience spectacular) 2) Mexican (bland) 3) Italian(just ok) 4) Steakhouse (I enjoyed it) we went to the Rock Cafe(sports bar) another night and just ordered breaded wings and it was just ok. The buffets were good no trouble finding something satisfying to eat. Breakfast was equally good in all the buffet restaurants, but the one closest to the pool had less choices, however what we wanted was always there:crispy bacon, pancakes, waffles, fresh orange juice and fresh brewed coffee. THEATER: The first night was called ON THE ROCK, it was absolutely fantastic. The rest of the shows were entertaining but no match for on the rock. The theater was large with lots of tables and uncomfortable chairs, they served you drinks and a bowl of popcorn. SHOPPING CENTER: We were a couple of evenings trying to find it on our own but with no luck, finally we asked for a ride to the center and it was a very nice spot. It had a carousel for kids and an area for them to run around on park like structures. There were many shops, a coffee shop, ice cream & crepe parkour, Taco fast food place, Hamburger spot, and a small casino. the food was included(no charge). WILDLIFE: Peacocks, black & white swans, pink flamingos, ducks,Iguanas, lizards, Coatis, Agouti, parrots, yellow breasted birds, rooster and a cat. Our BEST DAY West Jet transfer affiliate forgot to pick us up at this resort to head to the airport to return home, once we informed them they were no time in finding someone to drive us to the airport, and we made it in time for our flight. Del Mar is a beautiful resort with a large pool shared with another Iberostar resort-the P:araiso. I woulds recommend people to visit this resort & I would have no trouble coming back here.
Just returned yesterday from Paraiso Del Mar. This was the best all around resort we've visited in a long time. The service by everyone was outstanding nothing was ever too much trouble and all the staff always had a hello and a smile. Very clean, check-in/check-out efficient, food excellent and just beautifully landscaped. Whoever designed this resort really created a beautiful layout, the "rainforest walk" to the beach everyday was lovely with the wildlife and cool shade and breeze. Entertainment Team: Liliana, Miguel, Manolo, Leslie became like family such talented people who work so hard! Areas for improvement: replace yellow beach chairs, many of them had lost their support which made them uncomfortable. The grey pool chairs were much more comfortable. Due to the high levels of sargassum in ocean, people were reserving pool chairs before 6:00 a.m. so you could never get a chair by the pool - frustrating. But the beach was beautiful and full of activity we didn't mind, we would just walk to the pool when we wanted a swim. Installing hooks inside the beach palapas would be a nice touch to hang your clothes and beach bags. A little more food variety at beach shack and taco shack near shopping mall would be great. Sam and Silvino Mercado waiters were excellent and deserve a word of recognition. The nightly shows were the best. Hot sunny weather 32C everyday. A very well run resort, will definitely be coming back! Thank you Iberostar Del Mar!
Great hotel. Staff brilliant and always smiling. Food great and wildlife beautiful. Even free room service. Very well looked after. Will definitely be back. Best food I’ve had in all inclusive. Grounds are beautiful.
