Probably the best hotel in the Bayahibe region. OK, I have not been around the Hilton, but just from passing by I'm almost sure for the rest. The personal is very attentive, the grounds are beautiful. Many free living birds. The restaurants can not keep the race with those of 5* Greek or Turkish hotels, but one can always find something tasty. The best pineapples I have eaten ever. Their barmen know and prepare the vast majority of standard cocktails. Just during the second week I found an Italian one not known to them. Still to admire. Vines are Spanish and more than OK, their beer Presidente is better than Budweiser (which is also available) More than enough palapas and sunbeds on the beach, there is some natural shade too. The sand is soft and clean. Blocks 3&4 stood in extensive renovation works (July). Thus, there was some noise around the pool, but it did not bother us at all, as we prefered the beach. No noise reached our room (block 6) either. A/C worked well and also did WiFi. A few mosqiutos, but not really a problem. Dive center was well equipped and not expensive. Just the evening shows did not impress me.
Great time together
This was our first family holiday with our 2 year old twins and we had a great time together. The grounds and the beach are beautiful, our room in building 4 right behind the beach was big and comfortable. The food in the main restaurants was great every time. The only three negatives is that people are allowed to reserve sun beds by placing their towels and disappearing for the majority of the day. Second minor issue we had was with the opening time of the restaurants for lunch especially, we found that 13:00 is a bit late for the kids and adding the time difference with the UK, kids often had to survive on packed food that we brought with us from home as they were often asleep by the time lunch was available. Third and last...the outside play area in the kids club. The climbing frames were fantastic however they were exposed in full sun and plastic was getting extremely hot...hence impossible to use, they were closing it at 17:30 when the sun was finally moving to the other side and was really nice to let the kids play there. Overall a good family resort, would totally recommend.
Good value moderate resort
I stayed at the Iberostar H.D July 28-Aug. 3. The drive from the airport is about 50 minutes, but is a nice drive. We arrived late in the afternoon so we got our room right away, however the resort was full and we had a room with 2 double beds. We spent 1 night in that room then moved to a king room the next day. The resort grounds are imaculate. Beautiful foilage and lots of different types of birds. We loved seeing the baby peacocks. The beach is pristine. Soft white sand, crystal clear water. The water is very calm (except after a storm) very few waves and you can walk out a long ways before it gets deep. Never a problem getting a lounger or palapa. The pool is huge with lots of chairs and palapas. We found the food to be above average for similar properties. We especially liked the Steak House and the Gourmet restaurant. Marcia at the towel hut always has a smile on her face. We also worked with Levis, he booked our dinner reservations and helped us with another problem we had at the resort. He checked in on us regularly. This resort does have a time share they try to sell. Just say no or you will be sucked into a several hour presentation of high pressure sales. You don't want to spend your vacation in that situation. We were aware and avoided it. Don't be afraid to travel to the DR, it is a beautiful country with beautiful people.
old and needs maintenance but great pools and beach
This hotel was great 15 years ago but desperately needs updating and improved maintenance!!! We booked in Prestige and it was a waste of money. Rooms no different than regular rooms. We couldn't book in specialty restaurants as they said they were full but two of the buildings were shut down for renovations. They didn't tell us that the prestige lounge was closed due to renovations. Asked to speak to the manager three times and no staff member could call him or give me his business card. Should have been told that noise from renovation work would affect sitting on our balcony during the day. Food was subpar. Staff friendly. Pools were great but again needed renovations and upgrading. (missing tiles etc) We were very displeased and would not return. Beach area is beautiful. Entertainment was subpar.
Undergoing extensive renovation
Two accommodation blocks and one restaurant closed for renovation. Building work is ongoing from 8am till 7pm. Both accommodation blocks are in very close proximity to the pool and star prestige beach area. Construction work noise is on-going and very noticeable in these areas. Very disappointing and annoying. Staff are playing down the disruption dispite it being very evident. Accommodation blocks are covered in a printed netting to hide construction work, see photos. But the calm relaxing ambience of the Carribbean is lost at this hotel. Please do your research before arrival to avoid disappointment.
