Entertainment team make the resort!
My husband and I visited Iberostar Dominicana for 2 weeks. The grounds are beautiful and kept very clean. The beach is incredible and the pool is very big with plenty of sunbeds. I am going to start off with the issues and then go into the positives. If it was not for the entertainment team, this hotel is a 3* at best. We encountered quite a few issues whilst being out here: 1. We lost electricity in our room for two days, after making numerous phone calls to reception about this and them saying “someone is on their way”, they decided to finally come at 1am when we came back from a night out having discovered we still had no electricity to which the issue was still not resolved until midday next day. 2. The shower head was a very basic motel shower head that ended up breaking. We contacted reception to be told “someone is coming up right away”... low and behold an hour and a half later no one showed up. We had a dinner reservation so ideally we needed someone to come up straight away. After having to call again, they finally sent someone up. 3. I ordered a surprise service for my husband for his birthday to have a happy birthday banner on the door and ordered a bottle of champagne. We went on an excursion and when we got back I expected to see the happy birthday on the door and have some champagne together to celebrate his bday and he received absolutely nothing despite charging it to the room. Our friends didn’t even have to ask for this service and they got it for free but they were staying on Punta Cana side so perhaps a better service at the sister hotel? When I complained to guest services they honestly couldn’t care less and I was told “it could be worse, nobody died” 4. When it came to checkout we called reception to send up a bellhop to help us with our bags, after having wait a very long time and getting close to checkout deadline we had to do this all ourselves and make multiple trips back and forth 5. When it came to check out they had charged $280 dollars to our room for a beach dinner we didn’t have. It took about 20 minutes and numerous people to resolve, we did order flowers so we were about to pay for them. When my husband got out his card to pay they said the machine didn’t work and run to the ATM machine, my husband went there and the ATM machine didn’t work either. He was then told to run to the casino which he did but it wasn’t open. When he come back they tried the card machine and it worked fine straight away... The food is quite basic. They have a fantastic live cooking pasta station in the buffet which was delicious but other than that the food is just ok. Now for the positives, the nightlife here is INCREDIBLE! The entertainment team are amazing! Have to give credit to Bar staff too as they’re amazing and made the most delicious cocktails! Every night there is dancing and they put on shows and parties. The foam party was a particular highlight! They also have an on-site nightclub which plays a mixture of English and Spanish music which was a great night out. This hotel would be NOTHING without the entertainment team working the relentless hours they do to ensure the guests are happy and involved. Special shoutout to Popeye, Kankan, Betty, Naomi, Junior and Nixon - incredible, lovely people! If you are staying at the Dominicana and have an issue I would say to visit Henry on the Punta Cana guest services, he’s ever so helpful and actually cares when you have an issue. All in all I did have an amazing time but I’d say that was owing purely to the entertainment team. I would definitely come back but I would stay at the Punta Cana side. If the entertainment team was not here, I wouldn’t bother coming back.
This was my first time at an Iberostar property. Beautiful grounds, lobby, pool and beach. Great service and the food was excellent especially the buffet. The evening shows were the best I’ve seen at an all inclusive. The staff are very friendly and my only complaints were that are mini could have been colder and the food indicator signs on the buffet were not changed when the food was so sometimes you thought you were eating something different. You share resources with the Iberostar Punta Cana which shares the property. Lots of loungers at the beach and pool even though there are signs not to reserve people do but no problem to still have a lounger. Would definitely try another Iberostar at a different resort and will be back here again in Punta Cana.
Entertainment and activities need improvement
We enjoyed our stay but had several small issues that I feel this hotel needs improvement on. Attention to details upon check in was missed on 2 couples for the honeymoon gifts as promissed. Food was readily available but could use some improvement in the quality. It definately needs to say that making dinner reservations is the way to get the best food compared to buffet. Also the limitation to the amount of dinner reservations you can make are tied to how many nights you have booked should be changed. I did not verify but 2 resteraunts were booked for a wedding event and that should not be allowed due to other guests not having access to the facilities dinner.
Had a great vacation here. It is a beautiful resort. There is only one down fall we found. The property is covered with smooth tiles for flooring and this made it very slippery when wet. So we always walked with caution. Seen some people fall. The people that work there are awesome.
This was our third visit to Iberostar Dominicana (prior 2013 and 2018). The hotel keeps its high standard and maintains facilities very well. Food was excellent. We did not bother with any ala carte restaurants as we knew from previous experience, they are not worth it. The beach is fantastic. We always found a chair on the beach and at the pool. The ocean was rough due to win, but it did not stop anybody from enjoying it. It is also great for walking for miles in each direction . Entertainment during the day was a bit hit and miss but OK. The evening shows however were poor and half of it was audience participation. Not much better in the adjacent Iberostar Bavaro. The displayed program was not always followed, but that did not surprise us after being 15 times in Punta Cana in different resorts. A good live band played at the Punta Cana section every evening with a variety of music for different tastes. We spent quite a lot of time there dancing and having drinks at their bar. All the bars were well stocked with a big variety of liquor, champagne, espresso, Caribbean coffee etc. The bars could use some better decor and the service somewhat deteriorated. The hotel makes efforts to be more environmentally friendly. No straws in drinks, reusable glasses, soap dispensers in rooms. There are no plastic bottled drinking water in rooms, just glass bottles which can be refilled at water dispensers in the halls. Kudos to the management. The hotel deserves solid 4 stars despite all the critical remarks above. We had a good time during our vacation and one day we will definitely be back. Warning to the first comers:. There is a number of staff being there to greet you and "provide best service to you". They are actually selling timeshares, persuading you to attend special presentation with perks -all for free. Unless you are interested, don't waste your time attending any presentations with heavy pressure to sign a deal on the spot.
