Star camp staff are amazing
Our kids, ages 11 and 8, loved the Star camp activities and the counselors. Ismael and Erika were fantastic! They make the activities (archery, pool games, soccer, crafts, and the list goes on and on!!) fun and really do phenomenal job getting all the kids involved. Parents get time to relax and the kids have fun! Thank you so much for for a memorable vacation.
We had a great time, they really took care of us I have a son who is 14 years old and he did nine dives during the vacation, they didn´t miss anything and did a great job We especially liked Berenice, she was a great guide.
Felt like paradise
Very friendly staff. The first thing you get when arriving, is a nice drink before checking in. The stunning clean beach and the animals who walk around the hotel definitely let you feel like you are in paradise. The variety of food is okay and the rooms maybe need a little fresh up since they look a little “vintage”. But everything was very clean at all times. It’s not a luxury hotel but has a very charming character. Overall we had a great stay.
August 2019 Review
The service was outstanding. Truly outstanding at almost all levels. The only issue we had was with Ruth at the Dive Shop. She cost the hotel 4 dive trips as we rented a car and went elsewhere for our dives because of her. Outside of Ruth, the staff could not have been nicer. Even the entertainment was fun. Quite a talented group of young folks. Location makes is a favorite for divers for sure. I noticed some folks noted AC issues, but we had 2 rooms and had great AC in both ground level rooms.
The straw that broke the camel's back
I reserved this room thru United, but 3 months before arriving called Iberostar and talked to an agent who promised a room in the building that was close to the dive shop. I had stayed in this hotel at least 8 or 9 times before and each time had a different experience, some good and some not so good. Upon arrival I found out that they put us in a room that was on the opposite side and furthest away from the dive shop and on the second floor. Neither I nor my wife can climb stairs, so after an hour of haggling they finally put us in room close enough. However, the AC in this room did not work. After multiple calls to the front desk I finally walked to the front desk and talked to Isabel who claimed to be the supervisor and told her about the AC. She stated that they have some electricity issues on the property and that's the reason the AC doesn't work (a ridiculous reason). She offered a portable fan, but I told her that there is a ceiling fan in the room and a portable fan on top of that is not going to make much difference, plus a fan does not cool. So for the entire stay of 7 nights the AC did not work. A call to the manager, Roberto, was useless also. I asked him to please stop apologizing and please do not send me a bottle of wine or a fruit plate, instead, fix the problem, to no avail. Mind you, the fruit can be found on the buffet restaurant at anytime. But, Roberto send me the fruit plate and a cheap bottle of tequila which I left behind. The buffet restaurant is average quality food. The service is very slow, especially when the hotel is half full. On one occasion I talked to the host and 3 different servers to get our drink orders. We waited 20 minutes for that. The specialty restaurants are not much better. The service in those restaurants are good, but the food is awful. One night in the Mexican restaurant I filled out a questionnaire on a survey. I reported that the food was bad and the service was good. The next day somebody called us and wanted to know why did we say the food was bad. I told them it is subjective and my opinion, but hey insisted as to why we said that as if they don't want to hear bad news. The steak house has several cuts of steak. Most people on our table ordered the tenderloin which is supposed to be tender, I could not finish my steak a tasteless piece of meat. The best part of the restaurants is the buffet at breakfast which has most everything for breakfast. The rooms are OK, but the beds have this soft mattress that you sink in and wake up with a bad back or sore side. They also have installed soap, conditioner and shampoo dispensers, but, once you run out of them you have to call multiple times as we did to replenish them. The best part of the whole resort are the people who work there with the exception of the management and the front desk. People like Roberto, Isabel, Israel who are arrogant , rude and know nothing about customer service. So why I went back again this time, Dressel Divers is the house dive operation which have real nice dive operation and I enjoy diving with them for the past 8-9 years. As other reviewers have mentioned the $500 coupon is a joke. You have to spend money and you can only apply the coupon to only a portion of the service or good. For instance if you buy a $50 bottle of wine you can use $15 from your coupons toward that. It is not like you can offset the whole $50. Here is the rub on that. In every specialty restaurant they try to push a bottle of wine on you for extra charge in this All Inclusive hotel. If you refuse 2 minutes later they serve the same wine to you by the glass for free. Bottom line, they try to get you. I have never been so disappointed in this hotel and in particular the management as I have been this time. This hotel has slowly gone down the drain over the years and it seems that is getting worse every year. Too bad because now the dressel divers will lose my business because of Iberostar.
