Great location close to the major dive sites. Hotel is located in a beautifully landscaped natural setting with small clusters of 4 to 8 rooms per thatch roof cabana. Quiet with easy walking access. Loved the strolls though the property with all the wildlife flora. Food and drink was all inclusive and more than adequate. Staff friendly and helpful. Always felt save and welcome.
One of the worst resort experiences I have had
The resort is kept very clean. The concept is pretty amazing. It is built into an almost rain forest environment. The cabanas are well thought out and clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food and drinks are all included. That's where it all falls apart. None of the dining areas are air-conditioned, the temperatures were in the low 90s with close to 100% humidity. We would find ourself sweating while trying to eat. The variety of food was wonderful however the quality was not there. The food was average at best. The best experience we had was at the padoga Japanese restaurant. It is the only restaurant that is enclosed but also has no air-conditioning. As far as the drinks go they have only one brand of beer Dos XX which I unluckily don't care for. The mixed drinks resemble what you would expect from a very low priced bar. Very little alcohol if any, and the most economical brands available. If you wish to go to town or do any exploring you are at least 20 minutes away from everything. I wont be returning.
Have stayed several times, things have changed
I have stayed at Iberostar in Cozumel, 4 or 5 times now. We keep going back because in the past of food, drinks and service have been great and the rooms and grounds were always clean. We had 13 people that stayed at Iberostar end of April - beginning of May 2019. One of the first things we noticed was that the pool was missing multiple tiles (never used to see any missing), and there was a ring around the inside edge, obviously hadn't been cleaned in a while. Service at the bars depended on the bar tender, a couple were great. Others didn't make good drinks, or would pass over those of us who had been waiting to serve somebody who just walked up (no tips given on those occasions - and yes, we did tip regularly). Some thing with the servers around the bar. There was a young lady who was GREAT. Others just shuffled through, hoping nobody would stop them. One actually took my friends drink order, never brought it, then when my friend inquired, the server said she was on her way home.....really? The food was good, no complaint. The steak house has steaks that aren't thick, but were flavorful and cooked to order. I would definitely eat there again. I sent an email to the resort, a week prior to my arrival, never got a response. One night I did receive a fruit plate and bottle of tequila in my room. My friends have stayed there at least 12 times, usually they are given a free bottle of wine and / or tequila. This time they received nothing. Would I stay there again? I might, but I would check in to other resorts first.
The kids star camp was amazing. They had activities all day and even an evening activity. The staff was extremely fun and my kids loved hanging out with them. The staff was very kind and always made sure my kids were checked in and out of camp by an adult in our family. I highly recommend using the Star camp for kids😀
Smell of human excrement coming from their sewage system
Our 4-day stay was an absolute nightmare. On day-1 we complained about the strong smell of human feces in our area. We were told about ongoing sewage maintenance and given a promise of no more problems of this kind starting the next day. The horrible smell of human excrement continued for two days and finally on day-4 the General Manager (we HAD to go directly to him since nobody else would solve our problem) decided to move us to another room where the wind blew against the sewage smell away from our new room. Stay away from this hotel unless you don't mind this kind of experience during your vacation days.
