Came for the snorkeling - stayed for the great resort layout & quality of service.
While staying at the Iberostar Paraiso Beach Resort last year, I had come to this resort for a one day snorkeling excursion with Dressel Divers & booked a week stay (Jan 31 - Feb 7) for this year. This was our 4th different Iberostar resort & quickly became our favorite. As a smaller resort, it is easy to find your way around quickly & encounter the same hard-working & friendly staff more often, giving it a homey feeling. The resort is know for its snorkeling & diving, with a Dressel Dive Center on-site, complete with pier & quality dive boats, minutes away from the best reef sites in the area (see separate review). Resort location: located on the south-west end of the island, this resort has been carved out of the jungle, transitioning to palm trees & waterfront. Winding walkways take you through the property with lots of wildlife to entertain & the grounds are kept in excellent condition through ongoing maintenance. Accommodations: unique guest accommodation buildings (see photos) with rooms on ground or 2nd floor with outside stairs (we had 1 of each). Rooms are of a good size, with roomy bathrooms & large showers. Each unit has a deck/balcony with a hammock, table & 1 chair. Some difficulties with thermostats controlling A/C units. We had different housekeepers for the 2 rooms & both were kept very clean. Mattresses in our room were in need of being replaced. Beach/Waterfront: This is a coral coastline & while the resort has brought in sand to enlarge the beach area, if you plan to go into the ocean, water shoes are a must to get through the many rocks. The other option is to enter from the 2 stairways off of the pier for swimming or snorkeling with a wide variety of marine life. While not as nice a beach as those in the mainland (Riviera Maya/Playa) it is still walkable in both directions. Lots of lounge chairs available for either sun or shad. Pools: There is a large double pool area for children, with the adjacent adult/family pool divided with one half being an activities/entertainment side. A pool bar in the middle serves both sides. Reusable plastic glasses are used at the bar, but many people bring their own water bottles (some even for water!).Lounge chairs surround the pool (sun & shade) & although the policy is for no reserved seating, the same game of early towel placements goes on as in other resorts. Food: 2 buffet restaurants - one adjacent to the lobby for breakfast & dinner & the other adjacent to the pool for lunch, converting to a Steakhouse for dinner. 2 other a la carte restaurants nearer to the lobby are the Japanese/Asian & the Mexican/American. The food at the buffets was very good, with a wide variety of selections. We enjoyed the omelette station in the morning, as well as the daily change in cuisine styles for the dinner buffet. The Japanese restaurant was ok, but we preferred the steakhouse. The other lunch (& afternoon snack option) is the beach grill with a great selection of salads, hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries & lots of fresh fruit. & the very popular self-serve soft ice cream machine. Entertainment: Good - not great, as we have seen most or similar shows at other Iberostars we have stayed at. Time to change it up a bit. We did enjoy the male & female singers (don't know their names) that we heard a few times & we did enjoy the beach fire show. The entertainment group for daytime activities does a good job of getting people involved in pool & other activities. There is no late night entertainment after the 9:30 - 10:30 show, as with other resorts, remembering that most are here for the diving & snorkeling. Service/Staff: From bellmen/porters, front desk, concierge, housekeeping, servers & even maintenance workers, all staff were friendly, helpful & attentive. Special mention for doing a fantastic job to Rebeca - housekeeping, servers Francisco, Marcus & Daniela, Paula/Paulo? - entertainment & to (I'm sure it's not the correct spelling) Amelka, for his assistance in picking us up, securing our luggage when flight delayed & assisting with airport transportation. Note: while smoking is not allowed in rooms or dining areas, it is permitted on decks/balconys, pool & beach areas, so may still be an issue for some people depending on your neighbours. A great resort - well worth the visit & on the list for a repeat!
Dive and socialize vacation
Just back from 2 weeks at this resort, this is my 8 th year in a row been there.Over the years have seen great improvements in this lovely resort.Rooms have been all updated we new furniture,TVs ,coffee makers and showers. The people in restaurants are great very accommodating moving tables etc to seat 30 people together.Food was excellent lots of variety at buffet and specialty restaurants.Bar staff fast friendly and make good drinks.Good service at bar on beach and from the people who come to loungers on beach for your drink orders as well as around pool.Gardens are beautiful and continually been worked on painting is on going to keep everything looking good.Great job everyone. My only complaint is breakfast at 7 am when people who are diving at 8am do not have time to stand around waiting for eggs sometimes there are 20 people standing at the one station whilst the other station is unmanned or person making pancakes for later consumption this needs fixed. Will be back
Great place to stay, excellent housekeeping standards, the best part is the kind courteous staff. We snorkelled right on the property beach and saw many fish, including small rays. Never had a bad meal, restaurants were excellent. Erika made sure everything was perfect, and the Sommelier was a great asset as well. Overall excellent visit.
Great location, staff and overall experience.
Stayed @ Iberostar Cozumel with a group of scuba divers and could not be happier. It is the closest resort to all the dive locations, so if you use a dive service that picks you up, you have almost no travel time. The rooms were good quality and clean. The staff was very attentive across the entire resort. As an all-inclusive, I was impressed w/ the amenities you get (food, drinks, pool, sailboat/kayak, etc). I was particularly impressed that they don't have single-use plastic cups. The food was more like 3 stars, but overall this is a 4-star resort.
Your own little town!
First time we have stayed at an all inclusive resort like this one. We had various choices for cuisine morning, noon and night! I really enjoyed the "wild" life - coatimundis, parrots, flamingos, and iguanas - just to name a few. The rooms were very comfortable. As divers, we really appreciated the large showers with plenty of warm water. We spent most of the day diving, but were able to enjoy the pool and night time offerings. It was a beautiful place!
