Hotel Staff and Facilities Beautiful but Beach Unswimmable
Great family vacation, pools were fun and beautiful and staff was very accommodating. Food was excellent and there were activities all the time and the nightly shows were top botch and each only an hour long which was perfect to keep our teenagers attentions! Big disappointment was the beaches were unswimmable due to a super macro algae bloom called sargassum. Water was washing up brown and had a horrible smell that was rotting seaweed and smelled like sewage throughout the hotel and grounds. The hotel was doing what they could to clean up the seaweed and had people with masks on shoveling the seaweed off the beach daily, but couldn't keep up. Also, we were at dinner one late afternoon and saw a plume of smoke come from the back of a building. I thought I would see flames the plume was so big. Employees were walking by like it was nothing and when I asked a waiter, he freely told me that it was insecticide to kill the mosquitoes. We saw this happen twice in the six days that we were there and this was in the middle of the hotel grounds where guests were walking. Overall, we had a great time with our family and enjoyed all of the all inclusive amenites, but these two things were a little unsettling and could affect ones health.
Great family vacation
We visited El CID July 27- Aug 3rd, 2019 as a family. We have a 4 year old and 8 year old. On arrival, RTI hounded us to buy a timeshare, keeping us in the lobby forever until we figured out what they were doing. We quickly told them no and then were taken to our hotel room. Don’t get trapped in that speech! We had an amazing view. Rooms were clean and our butler had snack and drinks to our room within 30 minutes for the week! The family pool was amazing. Our son loved jumping off the cliff and my daughter loved the baby slide and pool. Do not go down the regular slide! I watched several people almost flip out and land upside down!! It’s too fast! The restaurants were delicious, but there were limited options. There is a market that has lots of options for lunch and dinner, but if you want to have a nice sit down dinner with a waiter, there are only 3 options. Italian, Seafood and Mediterranean. It got old after 6 nights of the same food. I recommend doing the market more or ordering room service to break it up. As for excursions, we did the Dolphin experience, which was right next door. That was amazing! Highly recommended! We also did Deep Sea fishing, which was not so great and a trip to Isla Mujeres, which we highly recommend!!! A big special thanks to Fernando for setting this trip up!! Our Butler was Angel, but we were never really impressed by him. Fernando was always around and always helpful even we were technically not his clients. We were appreciative of him going above and beyond! Overall we had a great stay and our kids loved it! We enjoyed all the evening festivities and shows and the family games during the day! Lots of things to do to keep kids busy! Oh and the spa hydro therapy is amazing!! Worth doing! The only downfall was the seaweed overtaking the beach. They can’t help that and were doing a lot to get rid of it, but it did keep us from going on the beach.
While this resort is nice, it is somewhat isolated which makes it a less than desirable location. And with the seaweed problem throughout the region, you cannot use the beach. Room was very nice, and the grounds are clean and maintained very well.
Good, clean, fun resort
Visited the resort in early July and had a great time. Decided to go here because of the activities for the kids...ours are 9 and 15. They loved the pools and cliff to jump off of. Food was great...the only thing I was disappointed in was that we couldn’t go to the French restaurant because our daughter was younger than 12. Yet she is perfectly well behaved. Probably more than what our 15 year old is! Workers work really hard there, please bring tips for them. Beach isn’t the best but nothing can be done about that.
It's a good time
I stayed at el CID last summer but this year I booked at grand Riviera princess because I figured it was a larger resort and would have more amenities. So this resort was more expensive than el CID but was not better. So if your going with family and kids book at el CID you will have a better time. The pool is awesome and everything is included. At grand Riviera only the regular pool is included and the kids and teens club cant compare to el CID. El CID kids club is open to all guests from 8 am to 8pm at riviera princess you have to pay for the kids club $9 per day or go to a smaller one where the kids stay outside and it's only open 10-1 and 230 -5, so there is no dropping your kids off for you to do an excursion. El CID you get everything it's a better experience for everyone.
