Stayed here November 9-15. Vaha did an amazing job at checking us in and explaining the grounds. Our 1 bedroom condo was very nice and clean. Resort grounds are beautiful. We stayed here in 2013 also and plan on coming back. The only issue we had was there was not enough pool chairs - couldn’t find a chair to use the pool several days.
Not too concerned about guest safety
My request to the resort to fix the exit light with exposed wiring was ignored for 3 days. Left before it was fixed. With this resort suppositly being family friendly, I believe the exposed wiring would be a safety issue with small children in the halls and should have been corrected quickly.
K103 perfect for our Maui holiday
2nd visit to Maui and chose Honua Kai this time. It did not disappoint! The condo was large, and two bedrooms, same size so no questions on who was to have the best room!! Fully equipped kitchen, with everything you require. Beautifully cleaned. Lovely linen. Cupboard with toys and swim things I couldn’t fault it. We booked this private condo, and it worked perfectly for us. The owner was always quick to respond, and was so friendly, even though we never met him. He had a maintenance guy that popped by to say hi, and gave us his mobile number if we required anything. There is a small shop on site, but it is only a short walk over to the supermarket. I particularly LOVED K103 because it was ground level. It was just great to sit outside on deck chairs provided, or sit on the grass. Nobody could really see us because of small bushes in front of it to make the condo private. Even better that our daughter with her children managed to get the condo next door and the grandkids played around all the grassed area. Couldn’t do this on a balcony! It was perfect. We ate at Dukes a number of times, and we enjoyed the meals and service there. We also went to the food vans out the back of the hotel and they were quite tasty too! Used the barbecue on site, which was clean plus we hired a cabana one day as it was my daughters 40th. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, and in particular K103.
Great family vacation!
I did a ton of research leading up to our trip. I've read so many reviews with people complaining of dirty carpet, old furniture, etc. in the unit they booked. Do your research, look at pictures closely! We booked through an agency and rented Hokulani 306, it was gorgeous just like in the pictures. I would recommend booking through an agency opposed to booking through the resort because then you know exactly what you are getting. The grounds are beautifully manicured. There are multiple pools, yes they have sand in them sometimes but this is a beach resort! It's to be expected. Food and drink service is provided around the pool from Duke's and everything we had was delicious(kalua pork nachos!). Being that we booked through a private agency we weren't able to charge to our room but we were able to just leave our tab open after swiping our credit card for the day. As far as the beach goes there is plenty of beach, it is more narrow in certain areas than others. Off to the left closer to Nanea it is wider. We loved being out on the beach and there is alot of good snorkeling right out in front of the resort. Overall this is a beautiful resort, perfect for families and groups. The bbq areas definitely come in handy. While reading these reviews you have to take everything with a grain of salt. Some people will never be happy and look for things to complain about. I consider myself a bit of a hotel snob, myself and my family loved this resort and we are planning a return trip already.
Great for Kids...Couples, Stay Somewhere Else
After a ton of research on Maui hotels for the first part of our honeymoon, I landed on booking a studio unit through Maui Resort Rentals. I wouldn’t say I regret choosing Honua Kai, but I also probably wouldn’t be returning UNLESS I had kids with me. PROS: -The room itself was spectacular. Good size, amazing view of the pool and ocean (although that was expected, since we booked an oceanfront room). Loved the kitchen and washer/dryer -On-site restaurant (Duke’s) was very good. One of the towers has a large gift shop/convenience stop, which was very nice CONS: -There were a ton of kids. I knew the resort catered to families, but since we were traveling in early November, I didn’t expect to see as many. Nope, they were everywhere. Not necessarily a bad thing, but we were on our honeymoon and the pool area just wasn’t as relaxing because of this -Parking is a pain. There’s an underground garage, but it’s very tight and difficult to maneuver. After parking there the first night, we decided to fight for one of the surface lot spaces, which were easier to park in. There was actually a pretty good size surface lot, but they had a large portion it blocked off for the valet, which was frustrating since all the spaces they had blocked off were never filled up. To be fair, we found almost all parking on Maui to be a bit difficult as it seems the parking spaces are just generally smaller -Check-in/out was a bit...weird. Since we booked with Maui Resort Rentals, we just had to grab our wrist band keys from the bellhop outside, not the front desk. It was just quick and didn’t really feel like we were interacting with an expensive resort. There was no real welcome, just a passing over of keys and an explanation of where to park Overall, we had a good time and enjoyed our stay, but it really is a family-oriented place.
