Returned from HBR on 10/5 and already missing it. We have been to several CO resorts over the years and nothing compares to Hidden. This was about our 6th visit here and it keeps getting better. As others have mentioned the staff is outstanding. Angel, Arnulfo, Aniceto, Alberto, Galidino, Noel (Great job on our candlelight diner) and of course Esperanza. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, the staff provided breakfast in our room and did an excellent job. A special shout out to Thania who was filling in for Mark early in the week. She is OUTSTANDING and a great addition to the staff. She even accompanied us to review the Maroma resort for a possible future stay. For anyone thinking of trying a CO resort for the first time you could not make a better choice. You may not know anyone at the start but you will know most everyone by the time you leave.
Hidden Beach, Oh How I Miss You.
The moment you walk thru the gate, you know this is a special place. You are greeted inside the office with cool towels and a refreshing drink while you check in. We were welcomed by Mark, the Concierge, and a bellman showed us to our room. We had room 1206 which is a swim up room. The room is well maintained, has a whirlpool tub, flat screened TV and furniture similar to any Hilton or Hyatt. There is a separate shower, and WC along with a two person vanity. The towels and linens are what we have come to expect from higher end luxury resorts. Go out the sliding doors and jump right into the pool which snakes it's way around in front of each lower level room. There is a well stocked swim up bar and most days a spirited game of water volleyball led by Jackie or Sandy is in full swing. The standard dress code for the pool....for the entire place for that matter, is little to no clothes. Most nights women would wear something sexy to dinner and the men would be nude...except for one friend we met who wore a tie to dinner.....nothing else....just a tie. The food is plentiful and above average for an all inclusive resort. The liquor was name brand booze( Captain Morgan, Belvedere, etc.) The staff is excellent. No matter what you asked, it was "No Problem". You are always greeted with a smile and they really go above and beyond to make your stay the best it can be. Most days there were things like Mojito making classes, bingo and corn hole. There is always something to do. There is a night club that was dead most nights but there was a fun body painting night with a rock band that did a good job. There are daybeds and lounge chairs by the ocean and the pool is surrounded by lounge chairs. We were told when the hotel is full that lounge chairs are at a premium but we didn't see that. The beach....Nope....almost no beach. Just a small area of sand maybe 30 feet wide that leads down to the rocky ocean. If you want to wade in the ocean, bring shoes. There are massages by the ocean for an extra fee and it was well worth the money. The demographics....I'd say a few 30's, a few 40's mostly 50's and 60's when we were there...all full of spirit and made everyone have a lot of fun. This is not a swingers resort and you'll see no overt displays of affection in public areas. Lomas Transportation did a good job bringing us from the airport and back again. The worst part of the entire week we spent at Hidden Beach was having to put clothes back on and climb into that Lomas car for our trip to the airport. We have already started planning our next trip and can't wait to get back to Hidden beach.
Resort Cancelled our Reservation
We have heard what a great place Hidden Beach is over the years. We finally made reservations and got an on-line confirmation. Bags were packed! First class tickets on United booked. Contacted the resort on Thursday prior to our Sunday arrival to inquire about transportation from airport to resort. We were told our reservation was cancelled. How can that be? I never cancelled. Never received a notice that there was an issue. Was directed by the concierge to contact reservations. I called and after twenty minutes of back-and-forth; for an extra $300+, we can have our reservation un-cancelled. Sounds like a bait and switch! I requested a supervisor. None available. Left my number. Never heard from central reservation. Contacted the resort and asked for the general manager to call me. Never did. Got an email late Friday from the GM stating he was working on it. Late Saturday, another email stating there was nothing they could do. We had to make other last minute plans. Hidden Beach may be a great resort, but their customer service is severely lacking.
Excellent relaxed vacation
Just returned from a nice week at HB. We've been to other Caribbean places a few dozen times, and would gladly return here. Others have given all the usual info, so I'll just add a few highlights & lowlights. Lowlights: It's a small resort, so the activities, facilities and food on-site are a bit limited. No beach, and water access is difficult - requires walking ~100 ft. over coral to get into ~2 ft of water. Very doable, but requires water shoes and determination. No water toys like kayaks or snorkel gear, tho that's available at the adjacent resorts if you want to walk next door. The food was good, but selection was relatively limited - very understandable, since it's a 45 room resort. There are ~7 restaurants available at the adjacent properties - requiring a res 1-2 days in advance. We ate at 5 of them... 3 were very good, 1 was ok, and 1 was mediocre (Mi Casa, the Italian restaurant... my 2 apps and 2 entres were all fair at best.) That's it for the lowlights - a pretty short list. Highlights: Rooms are spacious and nicely appointed... and all have sea view. The pool and "beach" areas are spotless - fresh terrycloth covers on the loungers and palapas were replaced multiple times a day as needed when it rained, or on request. Guests were very friendly - no shortage of folks to chat with if you want to socialize. Food.... (bearing in mind the previous comment)... Tho a bit limited, the food on-site was very good. Well-prepared and enough assortment to keep most appetites happy. And the restaurants next door were generally good. Entertainment was amazingly good.. truly outstanding... the best we've seen at any resort. The EC staff and evening entertainment were great. Service. This deserves a special shout out. It was superb. Everyone from the concierge to the servers, bartenders, housekeepers, and groundskeepers were excellent.. rivaling the best we've seen anywhere.. at any price point. Always pleasant, helpful and engaging. A few standouts were Esperanza, Angel, Alberto, Sandy, and Rodrigo (a roving bartender who was outstanding). Overall, it was a great stay. The only reason for 4 vs. 5 stars are the somewhat limited facilities and the inconsistent food at the nearby restaurants.
Hidden Beach Resort
As always everything was great, we stayed in Suite 1102, we were there from 13 Sept to 20 Sept. This was the first time that we went in the summer and there was not many people there which made it nice for us but not so much for the employies. We had 2 days of sea weed but they cleaned it up very quickly. A couple of things that I would like to mention we no longer have a beach when we first started going there we had mabe 20 to 30 feet of beach, the other thing is I would like for the original Nightly Entertainment programs. All of the people were great as always, I will try to mention everyone and hope that I don't miss anyone: Arnulfo, Aniceto, Angel, Alberto, Dave, Galdino, Ricardo, Noel, Paulino, Suzane, Lady and the Queen Esperanza.
