We're here as I write this
We have one day left here of a 6 day vacation. Unfortunately my oldest son got sick (vomiting and then fever) on day two and has been in the room since that time. The food was good and we thought Ipanema and Zen were the best for dinner. The room service menu is lacking, but apparently you can order just about anything you want off menu. More beer selection would've been nice, but Presidente isn't too bad. I agree with the others about the credit /point system. Just post real prices and ditch the 25% service fee. Would we ever come back? I don't know at this point... Maybe.
Nice place, but very sketchy pricing
The resort is fine, with nice grounds, decent service, okay food, etc. But the "all inclusive" pricing is ridiculous. You get "resort credit" as part of your stay, but every item you can use the credit for (activities, shopping, etc) comes with a "25% service fee." For example, mini golf costs 32 resort credits.... meaning you pay 25% of that or $8. Eight dollars is not all that unreasonable for a game of mini-golf, but to call it "all-inclusive" and then have weird math to do instead of just saying it's $8 is ridiculous. Same with a snorkel trip. It's listed as part of the "all-inclusive" package, and takes ~140 room credits. Meaning you're flat out paying $35 for a snorkel trip. That's a normal/reasonable rate.... JUST CALL IT THAT!!!!
Incredible Vacation - Sidelined by Stomach Bug or Food Poisoning
I'm torn on overall rating because it's hard to say how much the resort is at fault for the issues. I'll start with the bad. Me and everyone in my party, on the last night of our week stay came down with terrible stomach issues. It's clearly either food poisoning (which would be a result of poor sanitary conditions in the restaurant) or a stomach bug (which could be due to poor sanitary conditions, OR simply caught and spread by other guests). If HRPC is at fault, they get 1 star from me because I've never been so sick in my life and it was DREADFUL. If HRPC is NOT at fault, they get 5 stars because otherwise this was an incredible vacation. Splitting the difference for a 3. The resort is great. I see a lot of picky reviews about the place in serious need of renovations- I feel they're overexaggerated, and for what it's worth they were repainting much of the resort over the weekend. Zen (hibachi), Toro (steakhouse) and Ipanema (Brazillian meat) were all really great and exceeded my expectations. Ciao (Italian) and Los Gallos (mexican) were not impressive at all, but certainly edible. I found the best lunch buffet at Ipanema during the day. Pizetto was also a great place for lunch or late night snacks with delicious oven baked pizza. The poolside drink service was great. So nice to be able to get a fresh margarita or pina colada without ever leaving the pool! All the staff was very nice and very helpful. With just a few exceptions, the staff was normally very attentive and quick to service (perhaps tipping helped). The entertainment was great. There was live music most (if not all) nights, and the bands were pretty decent. The theatre had nightly shows. The Circus was IMO amazing for a small production. The magic show was pretty good also. ORO nightclub was very fun, I only wish it was open all week. Admission is free for guests with all inclusive package, which I had not expected (you must pay for drinks once inside though, as I would expect) Oh, and my only other complaint, which will definitely seem silly to most but genuinely disapointed me: Adults are not allowed on the water slides! There are 2 giant water slides, and only children are allowed on. Adults like to have fun too HRPC! In conclusion, it was a GREAT trip, sidelined and ruined on the last night by the most disgusting experience of being sick I've ever had. I truly hope the resort looks into this and does some proper and strict sanitation control on their restaurants just incase that may have been the cause.
Fun Trip but Beware of Stomach Ailments!
We spent a week at the Hard Rock Punta Cana as part of a large group of families. The grounds were HUGE and the beach front was really nice. Our best discovery was the small Sax Pool, which was quiet and had food, drink, and restrooms. Others pools often has four music sources because the driving beat of the so-called “party pool” overwhelmed everything. Overall, the food was adequate at best. Our group learned that the best food was what we called “better than average” but in visiting the majority of restaurants I never found a place that I would describe as even really good. In short, if food is your thing this is not the place for you. The drinks were pretty weak and the Hard Rock only offers two beers — Presidente and Presidente Light. Both were absolutely terrible. With so many fabulous beers available in the world, Dear Lord it was disappointing. The most important part of my review is...uh...gastrointestinal distress. The majority of the people in our group got sick during our stay. Two even had what can only be described as explosive displays in public. One would think I’m being funny but I’m not. I personally had to visit the doctor two weeks after my visit because the stomach ailment that sidelined me for two days during the vacation and zapped my energy for the rest of it extended well beyond my return home. And yes...we took every precaution recommended. We were ultra cautious and got sick anyway. Would I go again? No. There are plenty of other tropical places with better food and better drinks with the same pools and beach.
Last trip to Dominican Republic
Rock Royalty Package - Booked the Rock Royality package for a week's stay at the resort. Paid a LOT more for this package and definitely NOT worth it. Had no VIP check-in or check-out. Room wasn't ready until 1 hour after check-in time, had to ask for snacks in the room two times. Waste of money Resort overall - was there 3 yrs ago and loved it. This time they were pandering to high school seniors. Kids drunk and passed out in public, kids drawing penises on each other in public, kids using vulgar language...staff encouraging all these things. Spent about $9,000 on this vacation and should have just stayed at work. Will not return...ever. Best advice is to not go...just look at all the attacks at resorts and it goes unreported. Not as safe as you think.
