Best summer holiday stay ever..
Staying at the Hamilton Princess, Bermuda this summer August 2019, Is an experience that will linger even when the season is over. From the newly renovated hotel that overlooks the Hamilton harbour to the friendly ever smiling staff, and the restaurants that serve so delicious food, a very well equipped fitness room with a great view, to the infinity pool, and the waterside, the free shuttle provided for guests, the extensive artwork on display all over, that altogether provide a hotel guest a comfortable stay, very well enjoyed and so pleased. Special mention to the Crown & Anchor for their robust breakfast buffett, even our grand daughter, Siena, fully enjoyed. And for fine dining, go to Marcus. Very well looked after by Lloyd, Aris and Jessa, we very much enjoyed their top notch service, having recommended the Crab Tagliatelle with squid ink, mmmm, best pasta ever had, the Bermuda Triangle, another good choice. That dinner at Marcus left such an impression, that we had to go for their Saturday brunch, of course, it did not disappoint, you just have to do it. With thanks and appreciation to Hamilton Princess for a memorable stay. Hoping to make it again, next year to the next....
Our 6th Year In ARow
My wife & I have vacationed in Bermuda at least 15 times. The last six years, we’ve stayed at this wonderful hotel. It is the only place we will continue to stay. (We’re returning this August!) The hotel is beautiful. The two pools are great, and you can take a hotel jitney to a wonderful beach. We love the hotel restaurants, and the help treat you like family. (Here’s a shout-out to our friends at 1609 and the Crown & Anchor: Shane, Nuno, Melissa, Taabou, Peter, Melinda, Marilyn, Olha, Cosima, and I know I left some of you out. I’ll give you a shoutout after our August visit). We also love that the hotel is a few blocks from the town of Hamilton. This town has upscale places to shop, and excellent restaurants. This hotel has become our second home. The same goes for this beautiful island country. Having our final meal (at the hotel restaurant), 1609 before heading for the airport, our server and friend, Nuno, suggested we take this group photo.
The good and the bad
The good: great location (walk into town). Two nice pools (can get a bit crowded). Fabulous artwork everywhere. Nice (not great) rooms). The bad: Service: Concierge is a joke. They told us about a walking tour but the guy who ran it died a year ago. Ask about snorkeling and they print out stuff from the internet but don't have a clue what's what. Forgot to make a restaurant reservation and when they finally did it was under someone else's name so we were refused a table. Housekeeping. Came back to the room at 430 one day planning on a short nap but room wasn't cleaned. Called Housekeeping and they promised to send someone up right away. Called 2 more times and got same answer. Finally they showed up at 6 and said no one ever called them. Oh, and they charge $22/day for service. What a joke.
GOOD LOCATION, NICE LOBBY, BUT TEHY DI DNOT HONOR MY AEROPLAN DIAMOND STATUS
HOTEL: Excellent location. Nice lobby. ROOMS: They first assigned me a horrible room at the bottom. They were reluctant to change me, arguing that the other rooms were in a "different category", but after some searching, a better room appeared, it was a big improvement. Special thanks to John the Front Desk Manager and to Jessica for their help. The only drawback is the layout of the hotel: some rooms are located in a separate building, and you have to go outside to reach the main building.CONCIERGE: they are excellent, courteous and helpful. Special thanks to Roxanne, and to the other Concierges. Also thanks to Jessica for her recommendation of The Little Venice, it was excellent ( she is Italian and adorable). CROWN AND ANCHOR: I ordered scrambled eggs and that THEY CHARGE EXTRA US$6 FOR TOAST! This is RIDICULOUS! Who serves eggs without toast? Also, the pancakes were HORRIBLE, cold and dry. This definitely cost them points in my mind. HERE IS MY BIG DISSAPOINTMENT: My travel agent advised the hotel in writing that I had Diamond status with Aeroplan, and I also did the same when I checked in. When I came home, I received an email from Aeroplan advising that my Diamond Status entitled me to (a) Free breakfast (b) room upgrade, and (c) $25 per night credit at all Fairmont Hotels worldwide. I DID NOT RECEIVE THESE BENEFITS. Perhaps the Management will be kind enough to credit my account? I feel ENTITLED to that rebate, as it is a Fairmont agreement with Aeroplan.
Harbour view and beautiful beach
We stayed at the Hamilton Princess for a week back in April 2019. We had a King Signature room with harbour views and a balcony on two sides. The views are just stunning and nothing could beat sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine watching the boats sail by. The bed was really comfortable, the bathroom clean. All the amenities you would expect. We didn’t eat at any of the bars/restaurants or order room service. There are plenty of restaurants on Front Street which is about a five minute walk. The pool is nice but go to the beach instead!! The free shuttle bus there is great. The drive could be a bit hairy at times but worth it to have a day on one of the most beautiful beaches! The facilities at the beach are first class; showers and changing rooms, restaurant with the best food and cocktails, toilets are clean, free drinking water, kayaks, paddle boards, hammocks in the sea, hikes, tennis...just everything you could need! All of the staff at the beach were really friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay at the Hamilton Princess and would love to return one day.
