    Should be better!

To start off with the welcome was great the staff were really efficient allocating us all rooms. It was really late when we arrived so we went straight to our room and checked it out, at 1st glance everything seemed ok until we tried to go to bed realising there was 1 bed and what should of been a sofa bed only to find out it was broken and did not pull out so the 1st night as a family of 4 three stayed in the bed and myself on a narrow uncomfortable sofa, not the greatest start after already being annoyed due to delays at manchester! The next day we checked out the hotel which again very nice visually but overall from the 2 weeks we spent there the overall experience was poor for a family of 11 of us paying nearly 12k to stay here. Coming away for a relaxing holiday ive worked all year round for in a "5*" resort i do not want to be pestered all day asking if i want massages or trips to various locations.....if i want something i will seek it out!! Reps asking us when are we going to spend our money which was damn right rude, bar staff asking us for money for drinks a waitress bought to our table the night before then laughing at us as we walked away when we refused to pay them. The hotel seating area in the plaza is nowhere near enough for the amount of people you have staying there so for the entertainment most nights we either had to stand or partially stand at times with there being 11 of us. Having 1 bar serving all guests was a joke the queue was literally 30 to 40 people long at times so enjoying the evening was near impossible as you spent half your night queing up,The sports bar when a major tournament is on was not catered for the amount of people you had in there again spent half my time stood up. Dealing with the after effects of storm beryl you decided to only open the buffet restaurants and for limited times which was chaos leaving people queing half way round the hotel to eat instead of applying some common sense and sending different blocks of rooms would of been better than what we endured scrambling for a space to eat then when you got there half the food was unavailable. On a positive note all the cleaners and other staff (not including bar staff) were friendly and very helpful. I would never stay here again the experience was enough to put me off for life , i suggest the resort re-evaluates rather than cramming as many people into 1 place and taking as much money from them as possible and concentrate on giving the experience and value for money we travelled half way round the world to enjoy!

    Best staff service ever

The best all inclusive staff service that I have ever experienced. The shows are fun with a lot of talent. Food was very good but buffett lacked variety. It was dificult to find shade by the pool. Very cute animals roam around. Activities where ok.

On a scale from 1 to 10 I give this place a ZERO! By far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in! My family and I checked in early last week. Our reservation was booked as an ocean view. Upon arrival, I was notified after paying the extra money that there were no rooms available w/ Ocean view , mind you unapologetically , and than placed into the “ platinum club” what a joke!! Rooms are filthy and reek of mold and mildew Front desk employees/ concierge are clueless , not empathetic and unqualified to work in hospitality ! The front desk clerk offered us three other rooms that were equally as horrific! The grounds are unkept, the ocean water murky , filled with seaweed , and smells like rotting eggs! Food was less than subpar! The ONLY good meal I experienced that entire week was at Chill Out restaurant located on the grounds, however an out-of-pocket expense and not a part of the all inclusive. Do yourself a favor, Stay somewhere else!!

    Family holiday from Scotland

Stayed 11 nights in July. From Scotland but flew from Newcastle with TUI. Had a great holiday, was worried about bad reviews on the run up! Check in fine, slow as expected from reviews but after a 10 hour flight was happy to just be at resort wasn’t an issue waiting a bit longer. Offered a cold fruit juice whilst we waited and given a map and directions to room. Resort is big and beautiful, lots of wildlife. Plenty choice at buffet, enjoyed the a la cartes. Baked rolls, bread and pasties delicious! Main buffet quite chaotic and loud we preferred the smaller Snack Riviera for breakfast and lunch. Quieter and more attentive service. A few days into our trip we had Hurricane Beryl. Hotel back to normal within a couple of days. Unfortunately due to this we didn’t have the 4th July celebrations or beach foam party that we had looked forward to since booking but were grateful to be safe in the grand scheme of things. Room was a Junior Deluxe. Initial thoughts lovely however wardrobe was very dusty and quite a damp musty smell on first night. I did bring air freshers and dehumidifiers (one for hanging in wardrobe) and they done the job took the smell away. Grateful for the air con returning to room at end of each day. Left a few dollars on pillow daily for housekeeping and in fridge (different people for each). Most days room cleaned well with nice touches and fridge filled. Odd day bit of a rush job minimal done. Likely due to hurricane catch up though. Once I nipped back to room after breakfast and housekeeper been but not fridge filler and both tips were gone! A couple of times staff came to door when we were getting ready for dinner asking if needed shampoo etc. Gave a couple of dollars and given plenty products, as much as we wanted. The resort is very big, lots going on but you need to check the app and actively find things such as kids club. It’s not like smaller resorts we have been to where they come round and ask about joining in kids club etc. We missed a lot as happy by pool. 11 year old joined in with water polo and beach football. Theatre shows at night weren’t for us but we enjoyed the fire show in main lobby. Daughter painted pottery a nice break from the direct sun. WiFi temperamental but to be expected with location. Leaving/forgetting this network and re-connecting usually worked. Never an issue for long and quite enjoyed the break from being on phone all the time - although did use to book restaurants and check activities. Loved the Sports Bar! 11 year old son enjoyed playing pool and singing with the Canadian soccer fans a really great crowd. Pathy who served us each night was lovely and always smiling. Didn’t enjoy taco cart so much but burger stand by pool fantastic. Drinks generally made very strong. Coffee and iced coffees nice! We done the jet skis on the beach and son got hair braided at the hut with the pink shirts. You go to the beach then along to the right about 10 minute walk, just past the next hotel. Thursday night market was fun bought a few souvenirs. All in all a great holiday. The hotel gets very mixed reviews but we enjoyed it. Perhaps not as polished as other resorts but it was half the price of the most well known one so value for money wise we were pleased. Not an out of this world luxury resort but not an out of this world price, although not cheap from UK and was a big spend for us.

Ok holiday - not 5* as advertised, better resorts out there

Just back after 2 week stay here. Travelled as a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 teens) from London with TUI. This was our 5th time to Mexico but first to Riveria Maya area and unfortunately our least favourite resort. We would not return and can not recommend. I would say there’s a reason TUI are selling this 5* resort with a 31% discount. It is not 5* in anyway, 3-4 star at best. In summary this resort is enormous, and in our opinion too big to maintain with the number of employees it has. Skelton staff everywhere, some were pleasant but most were rude unless you flashed cash. Tips are expected by everyone…before they even provide you a service. We saw pool bar staff shove tips boxes into guests faces and refused to serve them. It was easier to get out of the pool and queue up on the other side and just wait your turn. CHECK IN / ROOMS - we booked 2 x junior suites and received confirmation direct from hotel pre arrival that these would be one king and 2 doubles. Check in was chaotic, no welcome drinks and it was sweltering hot. Reception confirmed the rooms as per my email and also said we were next door to one another. As it was raining we were taken by buggy with our luggage to the room and bell boy brought our luggage up, much appreciated. We were in rooms 7128 & 7129 Rooms are is dire need of a refurb. Smell of damp, broken shower door that wouldn’t close so bathroom flooded everytime you showered and the noisiest air con I’ve ever encountered - felt like I was on a plane! However noise not too much of an issue for me as drowned out the hubbys snoring :-) but if you’re a light sleeper the noise will bother you. Some of the plug sockets were hanging of the walls in particular where the coffee machine and TV were. Fortunately these were behind a heavy cabinet so we just steered clear of using these ones. Weirdly not a lot of light in the rooms, only one in the main area of bed/sofa/table making it very dark. Bathroom had 4 lights so nice and bright. Bedside lamps would have been nice. Both rooms were king - even after check in confirmed not. A call to the front desk to query no queen beds so my 18 year old son and 15 year old daughter would not be sharing a bed I was told yes a rollaway bed is coming your way! In fact it literally arrived at that moment so they knew this at check in and basically lied to get rid of us. They agreed to move one room….to block 1 the other side of the resort (this resort is huge!)but in 5 days time! After speaking to other guests over the first few days we decided to stay put as they told us frightening reports of their rooms full of mould and uninhabitable and been waiting to move for days - we decided there were people with far bigger problems than ours. Housekeeping was good (towels missed for 4 days but clearly just an oversight. One quick call and extra towels were provided) Mini bar stocked daily. We were thankful to be staying in this area of block 7 as it seemed the most central as it only took 5-10 mins to walk to the front of resort or 5-10 mins to walk to end of resort beach end. Buggies were few and far between. GROUNDS - all looks lovely and the roaming animals were entertaining but there isn’t enough staff overall and those that are around are clearly very overworked and they work very hard. This resort is huge, and to maintain the outside spaces needs an army of grounds people and this resort clearly runs on skeleton staff and many areas are in need of upkeep. POOLS - we managed to get shade everyday but we are early risers. Plenty of sunbeds but shade areas are all gone by 7am. We preferred staying around the swim up rooms section by block 7. Mostly quiet and nearer to our room. Pools were not clean and need a refurb. All our swim wear is ruined and has turned yellow/green. No idea what chemicals are placed in the water. Mixed service at the pools bar, not enough staff and tipping essential to get served. Water temperature is very warm and pools are not refreshing. We weren’t a lover of the main pools, very loud and manic and lots of very drunk people. We mainly only came here from 3pm when the pool entertainment started which was a bit mixed. Some activities were very funny and some were a bit cringe but the entertainment team worked very hard regardless. RESTAURANTS - all restaurants lack abit of atmosphere and have no outlook. we tried both main buffets these were ok’ish. Breakfast probably the best thing. We didn’t really have issues with booking a la cartes but it was a pain trying to get 2 separate rooms booking which is the only way to get a table together. Mamma Mia (Italian) - was pretty decent 9/10 Misa Teppenaki - was also good we had a better chef 2nd time but food nice and only restaurant with a bit of atmosphere 8/10 Steakhouse was also ok but steaks very thin 7/10 Seafood restaurant - was nice but atmosphere very school dinner ish 7/10 5th Avenue - ate here one night for a change of scene was was good 7/10 Mexican - disappointing and bland taste 5/10 Lunch burger stand - nice burgers 9/10 Lunch Taco stand - average 5/10 BEACH - was really disappointed with the beach here, definitely the worse coastline out of the other places in Mexico we have stayed. You also can’t see the beach from the resort, only found one access point to the beach over swamp like area and it really smelt quite badly. Never sat on the beach as you just couldn’t enter the water, it was not inviting at all. A real shame. HURRICANE BERYL - our holiday coincided with the hurricane. Felt the hotel managed this well and there was no issues. Unfortunately pools were closed for 2 days and beach closed for 3 days but we kept ourselves occupied. Only one buffet was open for a day so there was long queues but we all got fed and everyone appeared calm and accepting of the situation. Weather wise only one day impacted and Mexico was back to hot and humid very soon afterwards. Fortunately for everyone there was limited damage and no injuries and we were grateful to have got through the experience safely. We are well travelled but unfortunately this resort just doesn’t tick the boxes for us. Lots of people love it here but for us we expect better for the high cost it’s marketed at through UK tour operators which is currently billed as a 5* luxury resort. This is definitely misleading and I think this is where some of the negative reviews stem from. This resort would benefit from some renovations but this is going to cost some serious money based on the size and number of rooms.
