Slimy guacamole soup
*Sigh* i hate to write a bad review since we vacationed here last year and loved it yet all had changed. The service went downhill. The food wasnnt good. They kept serving "guacamole " but it was like a slimy soup that was incredibly hot. We told the manager to which he tried the guac himself and agreed...but kept serving it during our entire stay. Mexican fiesta night- great show but bad food NOT FRESH and return of the disgusting watery guacamole soup which is a shame since last year the food was incredibly....are you trying to save money on avocados playa grande??? My whole family ended up getting sick that night and we are still recovering 2 weeks later after needing antibiotics.. Now the worst bit of all... DODGY BELL BOYS We checked out and called the bell boy extension on our phone, we asked if we could have someone come to help up with our bags. They said yes but it will cost $10USD. I don't care what anyone says...that ain't right...it makes you feel as if the staff just look at us like walking moneybags. We told the reception when we gave back our room keys which they said shouldn't have happened. Anyway we won't be coming back and will be staying somewhere else next time.
I recently came to Playa Grande with some family and friends and I had a great time. The facilities were very clean and the staff were very nice. There was a blackjack tournament hosted by the hotel which offered several cool prizes. The activities director named Thomas was very helpful with any questions we had and made the stay a great experience.
So I would love to give Playa 5 stars but I just can’t...there were a few major points that were lacking for me. We had the all inclusive and this was the first all inclusive I’ve been to that does not include room service and it does not include coffee in the room. The room does come with a bag of coffee but it’s $10. Also the kids club is lacking...there is only one girl there and it’s only from 10-4. It’s outside and you have to pick up your kids during her lunch. So during the times when you’d love to be kid free so you could eat a meal in peace it’s not an option unless you want to pay $25 an hour extra (for 2 kids) for one of the staff sitters. Plus the one day I came back to get my kid when I only left him for an hour he was playing video games. This was was a huge disappointment to me after going to another all inclusive last year where the kids club was from 9am-9pm, it was in doors, every night there was a different theme for the kids, full day of activities and there were like 8-10 girls working there at all times. For these reasons I unfortunately would not return to Playa. Now what I did feel they had the best of was, it was very clean and the entertainment staff was great. Salma, Thomas, and Roberto were my favorite. Roberto seemed to handle the special events because he is extremely funny. So if your not a coffee drinker, don’t like to eat first thing in the morning, or if your not looking to have some rare quiet times without the kids then this is a great place to go. However, for me there were just some disappointing factors like coffee as soon as I wake up (and not needing to get dressed to go downstairs to get a cup or to have to buy a bag to have in my room after I’ve already paid $100 a day for the all inclusive) and to have some much needed time away from the kiddos...I realized those two things are extremely high on my list and Playa unfortunately does not have that.
Home away from Home
As soon as you get out of your cab, it feels like home, the NICEST people and the NICEST, cleanest, most fun yet relaxing place. We love it so much and make it a tradition to come every other year. Jose and Ivan out front are always ready to help with a smile on their faces, information you need, and quick help! All the guys are the best, but those two stood out to us. Also, the entertainment staff is so much fun! Humberto always keeps the party going and Roberto too! We also had a ton of fun this year doing Zumba class with Salma!! She is an AWESOME addition to the team, ALWAYS smiling, laughing, and having a great time! Definitely keep her around!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus, we love the new adult pool with swim up bar, Alberto kept our drinks coming! We love you Playa Grande!
Everyone you encounter has just the best most cordial vibes, always with a smile. Tomas and Humberto in entertainment were amazing, to every single waiter at the restaurants in the resort. Celso one of our waiters in the restaurant Brigantine went above and beyond as well as Maylette and David for the morning breakfast/lunch at the restaurant Calima. The tacos by the bar are just the best!! The rooms were impeccable every single time we came back. Celia really took care of us for every single need in our room. This resort has everything you could possibly need!!!
