    Very nice resort

our stay was very pleasant, even though the Sea was stormy and with a lot of seaweed. The hotel is nice, big territory, not crowded. The entertainment by the pool not very loud, which was great. You could relax on the beach without the noise. And the selection of music was good. I like the specialty healthy juice bar. The food was fresh and tasty. Pizza bar excellent. I would recommend this resort.

    Familiar Faces and New Friends

We have visited Cancun many times and love coming back to the Grand. We travel as a family and this vacation was nothing short of fantastic! We were hoping to see some familiar faces around the pool with the entertainment staff and our second day in we got what we hoped for. Nay did not hesitate to give us all HUGE hugs and treat us like long lost family. She is amazing and just a great friend to us. It was great to see Dario, Leo and Juaquin as well. They have also been there on past visits and did not disappoint when it came to entertaining and engaging in conversation. Edwin was a new face but I would love to see Edwin every day. What a gift! We love you guys! The buffet did not disappoint with Macdiel Mendez as our server. He greeted us daily with a smile and was very attentive. He remembered our preferences and took time to ask how we were doing each day. We were happy to see some changes in the resort. It was nice to go to the restaurants without a reservation. The Hibachi grill in the Oriental restaurant is a great addition, we ate there twice in 8 days. My family also enjoyed the Italian and Mexican restaurants. We look forward to seeing additional updates in the villas on our next visit. The staff here works so hard and we appreciate all they do to make our vacations so great. Keep up the good work.

    Hard sells and harder mattress

Good points: The hotel grounds and the beach are beautiful. The staff works hard to maintain the grounds. The restaurants are all excellent. The pools are great. The room was nice, and maid service was good. We got there early, refused the 50 dollar a night upgrade, and still got into our room right after the 35 minute sales pitch. Bad points: As soon as you check in, you are taken to a man in a pink shirt for a "tour". We found out the staff in the pink shirts are called "concierge", but they are really there to try an lure you into the hotels time share presentations. We said no several times, and he kept offering us more and more "free" stuff to try to get us to sign up. We learned to keep away from the "pink shirts", avoid using the "concierge" service at all cost, and were not bothered for the most part. The buffet is comparable to what you get on cruse ships.. maybe a little worse. Hard liquor is watered down, and if you get beer, it is poured into small cups, no more than 4 oz. There is a lack of AC in the some common areas, the elevators are tiny and HOT. The outside sidewalks are made of stones embedded into masonry and are rough to walk on. If you are disabled, or even just have bad knees / hips, this hotel is defiantly not for you for lack of elevators, and the only way to get to some of the restaurants and bars is via steps or staircases. The bed was like sleeping on a slab of granite, the "mini bar" was 6 cans of different soda, 4 bottles of water, and 2 beers, and was not restocked. You can only use room service once per 24 hours. If you use it again within the time period, they charge you 15 dollars. Not staying here again.

    Hard sells and harder mattress

Immediately after checking in, we were taken to the lobby bar and were given a hard sell for 35 minutes to go to the next mornings presentation for the vacation club. Luckily we escaped without committing to anything and later I found out it's high pressure sales pitch where they never let you leave until your signature is on the paper. The buffets are a little less that cruise ship quality, but the restaurant's were very good. The property is clean, and beautiful, the pools are excellent and the rooms are nice with the exception of the mattress. Slab of granite comes to mind.... Thankfully the hard sell pretty much ended after the first day except for the occasional guy trying to get us to buy an excursion trip.
