Excellent vacation at the Coba
Just wanted to give a shoutout to waiter Moises. Your knowledge and excellent service made our dining experience a most pleasant and fun experience. We had the best time at the restaurant Mashua because of Moises knowledge of the food and drinks. Moises helped us understand our food choices and we were so happy with our meal. The food was excellent and Moises went over and beyond to make our evening excellent. Check out this restaurant because it is definitely a 10 out of 10 for food and staff.
Kick starting 2020
Arrived on New Year’s Day with my fiancé. Cannot knock this place. Lovely staff, good food choices, a la cartes all lovely (except Cozumel). Room was massive, well equipped and comfy. Big choice of pools across the different hotels and we stumbled across a derelict one where they are renovating rooms. Did 4 excursions with TUI, took ourselves into Playa Del Carmen 3 times (used the collectivo). Evening entertainment was decent from the few we went to. The Mexican fiesta was fun.
good food, but crowded, ok service, far from beach
Let me start with that the hotel is a good 1.5 hr drive from airport south! Good news, if you are a member of Bahia, can get a free transfer to/from airport (if taxi, it s over $100x2!)! Purchased the family room package, placed in 32023- meaning unit 20, room 23 (2nd floor). Pluses: 1) Views: We had a lovely view at the poolside and greenery, right in front of the family pool and kids' water park, and we could see the area where kids have a party daily in the afternoon. 2) Location: It was also a very short walk to the Kids Mini Club (which kids enjoyed), and fairly close to the night entertainment and main cafeteria and gym, and maybe a 5 min walk to a shuttle stop. 3) Room: The room on 2nd floor was spacious, got sufficient amount of light, didnt seem dark or dingy or musty. Everything worked fine. Used a safe, liked the robes and new slippers. Air-conditioning worked fine. Plenty of toiletries. Balcony had seating area. Since it was a family suite, they provided a bag for kids with toiletries and a hat and tshirt, and kids' milk and juices and snacks in a mini bar, plus usual coke/beer etc, restocked daily (we did leave a tip inside a bar, since it's a separate person who restocks it from a cleaning crew). 4) Food was great at a la carte! make sure to book those way ahead, if you are a member, can do that online i think a week in advance. 5) Swimming pools were great, swim up bars etc 6) Entertainment was fun- daily show for kids, then adults (loved the Magician!), then live music/band/dance club/sports bar etc. 7) Loved bell boy Viktor, was very friendly, and greeted and took care of us well upon arrival! 8) Def visit the dolphin area! such a fun free show and can swim with dolphins! Negatives: 1) Check IN: They were pushy with giving me what I did not request at check in. Lots of back and forward, they wanted to give me 1st floor, while I specifically requested a room in a particular building on a upper floor etc. Didn't explain things properly, i felt like i had to ask too many questions myself. Was not a good experience, although not overly long, but still a good 40 min. 2) There was only 1 king size bed in a room, and they forgot to set up the requested kids' sofa per "family suite". It took me 2 days and numerous calls and visits to the front desk to finally have someone come out and set it up in 5 minutes! 3) Restaurant, food and drinks - i have never seen this "seat yourself where you want" system. Unless you came at exact opening, there would be NO empty or clean tables available at buffet! Good luck finding one, or i guess, just shovel dirty dishes to the side, and grab someone else's (let's hope they ve left, and didnt just go for refills!)! Only when we found a good server Maria, and left her good tips regularly, had she started saving a table for us and catch us when saw us coming (she was very sweet actually and worked real hard to decorate our table and get us our fav drinks right away etc). Also weird policy about needing to be fully dressed at the POOL RESTRNT, and COULD NOT TAKE OUT FOOD, (which also was left in the heat, so unsanitary!) and no snacks anywhere else near pool area on off hours, strange. I felt constantly being hungry in between meal hours, which should not happen at an All Inclusive! Also, DRINKS were the weakest i had ever had in any all inclusive!!! Pointless! event bottled champagne would not get you a buzz unless you drink so much you are ready to burst! so bring or buy liquor at giftshop or just drink the beer from the fridge. 5) Beach: The beach is soooo far away. Walking would take a good 20 min around places where only buses drive. Waiting for trolley took forever, so many stops at other hotels was annoying. Beach itself is very rocky, bring those rubber swim shoes. also we were unlucky with seaweed and dirty wavy water. Lines at the only 1bar were unbearable! Also, beware: the beach at TULUM is non existing, so dont waste your time there. 6) We could not sleep at all due to all noises from the entertainment being so close and so late, as well as hearing neighbors, and hearing noise outside and around the stairs- sooo noisy! (espec it being a kid friendly unit- kids were crying and screaming and running- very loud) Overall, Coba s a great budget hotel, with spacious clean rooms, with excellent entertainment, nice kids club, great pools, but a bit too far away from airport, overly crowded, which resulted in poor service and overworked staff and constant lives and fights for the spot under the sun (and shade!), and a pretty far away ride to the rocky beach, as well as very weak diluted drinks! But at a good price, it's definitely a contender.
Absolutely Loved it!!!
Just got back from 10 day Vacation at Bahia Coba. We absolutely loved it. I cannot say enough positive things about this place. The rooms were really clean and the well maintained our housekeeper was so nice. The food was amazing lots of choice in the buffet including healthy options, it was impossible to not find something for everyone. The specialty restaurants are wonderful and lots of choice. Service is fantastic. Night time entertainment is good and there is something every night. Pools are clean and lots of fun. We didnt go to the kids areas and bigger pool, but the smaller pool and swim up bar is awesome. Jesus, Eduardo and Mario were superb bartenders!! Myself an hubby had a relaxing massage ( 25 minute) prices are good and Lilli and Laura were great!! Check in and out was easy and the reception staff were really nice and helped with anything we needed. I had a made a couple of requests prior to arrival and all were accommodated. There was so much to do for all ages, kids club and water park, nightclub for the older but still young ones and a casino too. If i had to find one thing wrong its the Privilege Club sales pitch... we got suckerd into what we were told was a 90 minute MAX talk which included lunch and a tour etc - it was NOT 90 mins it was 3 hours of HARD sell . It might not be time share exact BUT its the same principle and they want thousands of dollars. We hadnt even been at the Resort 24 hours before we got pitched into attending the talk. It was horrible and i was so worn down at the end of it . Luckily we got out without signing up. That being said, we will be aware of this in the future and the reps are easy to avoid if you know what to look for. Overall this is one of the best resorts we have stayed at and we will definitely be going back again next year.
My GF and I had an amazing time at this resort! In the past I have stayed at Secrets Resorts and always loved them. I was very biased to Secrets because I could always count on everything always being perfect. With that being said, staying at the Bahia Principe Grand Coba was just as good!! From the time we pulled up, we had our personal concierge Daniel (who is awesome btw) greeted us at the top of the lobby stairs as we exited our private transfer (Canada Transfers highly recommended.) Daniel gave us beer and wine for the lady.. He gave us his personal cell phone to contact him at any time if we needed anything. The resort is very large compared to Secret resorts and because of the size they provide golf carts/trollies to swift you from place to place if you choose. You will see some local wildlife just hanging out throughout the day. The only issue I had was it is not directly on the beach. They do the best they can with the golf cart service to get you to the beach (which is like a five minute golf cart ride). The beach was pretty good, not to busy (maybe because it was the first week in January) but it was clean. They did not offer waiter service on the beach so you had to go to one of two bars to get your drinks (this was the same for the pool no service unless you go to the bar). Christian went above and beyond by going into town and picking me up some Coors Light beer (If you are a beer drinker I hope you really like Dos Equis because that is all that they serve at the resort.) Over all it was a great place to go, rooms were clean (could be a little more updated) and well maintained.
