Very Helpful Employee!!
We originally were checking into the Coba, but upgraded over to the Akumal. This review is for the extremely helpful and patient Yaneth (Janet). Upon check in we, requested an upgrade.to a different hotel, preferably Akumal. It was difficult to discern what the benefits to the additional money would get us, so my travel partner requested to look at the rooms in Coba and Akumal. After the first few steps in the heat and my travel clothes, I was ready to hand over the money, not my companion. Yaneth was awesome. She said no worries to walking us around, taking us to each area to check out the rooms. Listening to us babble back and forth. We ultimately decided on the Akumal - in a different room then what she showed us. If Yaneth had a hand in the building/room we got, she did well. We were very happy with the location. Coba is lucky they have Yaneth and we were lucky to have met her!

Good Family Resort
While Mexico is a wonderful country to visit and the Riviera Maya is just stunning (we will definitely return one day), I’m not completely convinced I would return to the Bahia Principe Coba - not yet anyway! Overall, our stay at the hotel itself was enjoyable and we have no major complaints. The Grand Bahia resort provided everything we usually seek from an all-inclusive holiday and was essentially very similar to other destinations such as Turkey and the Greek islands. There were aspects which were both better and worse than previous family holidays in the sunshine. The resort itself is huge, with many restaurants and bars to choose from. The regular train/go cart service is very handy for a quick transfer between the main hotels of Cobá and Tulum. The grounds and landscaping is immaculate and certainly adds to the impressive grandeur of the whole place. The lobby entrances to both Cobá and Tulum were stunning. The a la carte restaurants were very enjoyable and we left each one very satisfied. The main buffet restaurant is good enough without being amazing. Fills a hole as the saying goes. The public buildings (lobby, reception, restaurants, etc) are all beautifully crafted with high roof pitches covered in a thick layer of traditional straw thatching. Even the parasols surrounding the pool showcased the detail which goes into this master craftsmanship. The children (8 & 10) really enjoyed themselves and made loads of friends. The excursions were fantastic (Maya Coba, Xel-Ha & Captain Hook), which allowed us to experience Mexico’s natural beauty (you must experience a swim in a cenote). To the finer details; and this is where we were a smidgeon disappointed. Overall the condition of the rooms, poolside, toilets and seating areas was good, although they are a little behind on general maintenance and keeping everything on a par with the above mentioned points on landscaping and architecture. Our room and bathroom was clean without being spotless. The AC worked ok but wasn’t adjustable at all. The plug hole in the bathroom sink released a subtle sewage smell from time to time and the fittings around the ‘jacuzzi’ bath were a bit grimy in the spots where a little more cleaning effort would normally be required. The main living area was fine and spacious enough; with tv, lights, mini-fridge and sockets all absolutely fine throughout. The main pool area was tended to very well by the staff and was always very clean indeed. The pool bar is in need of an upgrade or refit as the tiling was very tired and not finished to a good standard by whoever attempted any recent patching or repair work. The bar staff around the pools worked very hard to serve everyone as quickly and efficiently as possible - and we must give them a special mention for their efforts in what was sometimes a searing heat. Why on earth they are made to wear those full body, head to toe uniforms I’ll never know. Every single bar tender looked so hot and bothered. Surely a uniform consisting of shorts and T-shirt would be much more appropriate. Whether it’s intentional or not by hotel management to have only one bar tender at a time, I don’t know; but they seemed seriously understaffed when serving food and drinks during the day. We did feel a bit sorry for the bar staff. The pool attendants/lifeguard’s were far too officious, blowing their whistles at anyone who did anything more energetic than a quiet swim and paddle about the pool. Family fun around the pool is not something you get to enjoy too often - and these attendants were definitely not keen on allowing this to happen. I understand that they are probably just doing their job but their OTT whistling was a bit unnecessary at times. Overall, our stay at Bahia Cobá was a good one and we certainly wouldn’t rule out a return, however, we have asked ourselves if it’s worth the 10 hour flight to stay at a hotel which is arguably no better than the Mediterranean Tui Holiday Villages we’ve been to in previous years. Personally, the lure of Mexico itself would be more than worth the long flight rather than this specific hotel. That said, a little bit of investment and upgrading a few areas would absolutely persuade us to return here in the future.
Cleanest resort ever
This was my first time at this resort and I was very pleased with how well kept and clean this huge resort was. The food was fantastic everywhere we ate. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely go again. Long ride from airport was the only downfall.
A great place to explore!
We had a fun time at Grand Bahia Principe Coba! I know we had a few miscommunications with personal relations (for example we confirmed with the person had booked the teppanyaki at Mikado, only to be told on arrival we got put in Á la carte instead) and a few bumps but overall a great time! Mashua was a highlight and has great service, everyone was so wonderful to us. Especially our waiter Alfredo! He single handedly made our vaction great! There was a bunch of resteraunts we went to but nothing compares to this one. The food, the flavour, the atmosphere and the special little touches that leaves you with a smile when you leave the resteraunt. I have never seen such positive and accomidating staff. It blew my husband and I away! Alfredo and the manager Glaydis always went above and beyond and were always happy to see you happy (this brought us back 3 times!), He made you feel like family If you’re booking any of the resteraunts make it this one.. I promise you won’t be dissapointed! This hotel goes all out and we were fortunate to be present for dios de los muertos and halloween. They had a big celebration nov 1 for los dios de muertos and if you were at the buffet for halloween they had employees dressed up in front of the buffet, and they decked out the whole buffet in spooky decor including a smoke machine for the floor! They also had a haunted house and show (free) which was very well done! Whether you’re looking for a fun vacation or a relaxing one, you can do as much or as little as you like here. The animation staff were awesome! They always have energy and events going on and encourage others to have fun! Volleyball, water excersize, zumba, foam party you name it! I think our favorite activities were volleyball with Carlos and the zumba which was right by the pool! However if you’re looking to relax definetly go check out the spa. I personally had the mayan massage from Lilliana at the Coba spa and it was one of the best I ever had! I work at a spa, so I love to explore them when I go away.. and I defiently reccommend this one! You get to pick from a few essential oils if you wish. There’s also the option to get a massage on the beach but I reccommend going into the spa, there’s showers and lockers and a wonderful atmosphere. I can’t wait to return one day, hopefully with family and friends!
