    Not what i expected

    the hotel is very nice. however, customer service in lobby not so great. i changed rooms and had to wait until 3 pm to switch even tho it was in same area from upstairs to downstairs. rooms were very humid and musty with lots of mosquitos. air conditioner in room and restaurants very poor. ceiling fans did not work great either. it was a fun time but I expected a little more from the staff there. the drinks must be watered down because in 7 days there I did not get a buzz. the entertainment was great tho. I would go back to visit but not this hotel.

    I am currently here at the Coba section of the resort. I am so happy with the service here. I was not happy when we arrived and my husband after the first few days of 14 days had a incident where we had to go to the hospital by ambulance and Daniel the customer relations manager was incredibly helpful and made sure we were well taken care of...what a great guy. Special thanks to Manuel the manager at the main buffet and Gladys the manager at mashua...went above and beyond for us. The server Jose from mashua was fabulous too. I will definitely return and recommend this hotel to family and friend. Very safe and clean. Food was amazing. Hotel is beautiful. Beach was clean and just overall a great place to visit. THANK YOU

    Nice hotel at a decent price

    Currently at Coba Hotel and have noticed some negative reviews on here so thought I would give my opinion. Food is great and choice is very good with different theme each night as in most AI buffets though Service in restaurant has been anything from not great to excellent depending on where you sit. For example today we were nearly finished lunch when we were eventually asked if we wanted a drink and it wasn't busy. Been to Mexican and Brazilian ala cartes and both very good. Pools are big and plenty of room there are 4 at the Coba and kiddies mini water park and another small area with hot tubs. You can use Tulum facilities too. There have been couple of code Brown's in the pools but you can go straight into the almost adjoining pool when that happens. Room big enough for us as a family of 4 but could have done with 2 queen size beds as per Gran Bahia Esmerelda in Dom Republic rather than two small doubles and a single. AC in room has worked fine in the room and mini bar replenished every day as were toiletries. Rang guest services to explain we were only getting 3 bath towels left first two days and someone came after 15mins with extra towel then a phone call to our room from guest services asking if everything was in order - good customer service. Drink quality varies at the different bars even beer. Was served a particularly flat beer that tasted awful like dregs in the barrell, went to Sports Bar next door and was completely different! Wife has had Appleton rum cokes at pool she said were lovely then at lobby bar not si good so dont know what's happening there. Cocktails nice and she likes the Vodka though and I notice they serve Bailey's. Was bitten by mozzies first couple of days which turns out to be from mozzies hiding in room. Each night I would come back and kill upto 6 hiding in curtains or behind cupboards. Not been bitten since day 3 none of us have so check your rooms! Be warned its very hot and shade around pool is limited. As others have said if you not at pool at 7am latest you will struggle to get lounger with umbrella shade. Some people have been severely burnt by the sun including my daughter on first day but that was our stupid fault not the hotel. This is one of the more affordable hotels in this area and for value for money I have absolutely no complaints. I've read the small number of negative reviews and most are because something specific has happened. They lost some money, lost a phone, one guy slipped and broke his ankle and then everything becomes a negative which is understandable. We have found none of this luckily. Some minor irritations: Its a free for all when the golf cart taxis come. Brits queue but no one else does! At weekend locals buy weekend passes and some of these locals jump the queue at the pool bar, eat their lunch in the pool and one guy got so drunk he got ordered out the pool and put on a golf cart and took away. Not enough to worry about or spoil my holiday...

    Sub standard

    Having been to Bahia Principe in Dominican Republic last year which was fantastic,we booked with the Coba mexico this time. Check in was fast no problem. AC worked however we had paid for superior package and recieved no welcome pack or robes, but ok..tV did not work so on our second day I reported it to reception. They sent a guy up 2 weeks later the day before we still not fixed. Mini bar was stocked with one drink each DR we had loads of drinks and snacks. It is hot, however def not enough shade around the spend 15 minutes in the sun and you will burn..and I have easy tan skin.beach shade was better..and they have a roped off area of beach which stops seaweed from getting in..however it means you can only go out to water up to your waist. Bar staff and staff in general were friendly and fast. Food in buffet not great and hardly any variety..ala cartes were good. However building works are going on and you can hear drills and banging all the time, plus japanese restaurant was closed..we were told none of this. The whole complex is hot and sweaty..even restuarants..coolest place is the gym. Pool water is boiling, but the suns doing that. Trips..really expensive..some cool stuff..but really not worth the price charged..and we went through the hotel..expect around 160 to 180 USD pp..we took 2 trips and cost us 1000USD family of three. All in all..I have travelled around the world, business and class hotels and third world countries..We may choose another Bahia Principe..but it would certainly be not in Mexico.

    Average at best

    Met our expectations which to be honest weren't so high. Having stayed at the Grand Riveria Princess last time we came to Mexico we had something to compare to. The positives to this place are the following: the waterpark for the kids was good and made a nice change from the pool but beware of the kids who have no manners and think it's ok to ram into the back of your children half way down the slides. The buggies that take you around the resort are handy and for our children who are 4 and 6, they found it quite an adventure. A couple of shows that are put on in the theatre at night are of good standard but the theatre itself was an absolute nightmare to begin with. It's absolutely baking and when we complained to reception and asked for the air con to be turned on as it was that bad we felt we felt we were about to pass out, the woman behind the desk said no and that it was hot everywhere (which of course I'm aware of!) but with her fan blasting behind her I felt it was a bit of a cheek. The food itself was lovely and of a good standard overall but again, due to no fan or air conditioning despite the food being good we almost melted in Cozumel restaurant the night we went. The negatives: the place is pretty overcrowded even though it's huge which in turn has its consequences. Sun loungers under shade can be hard to get unless you're up at 6.30am to nab one but even then, we were aware of some towels being removed from loungers so it's a gamble you take. Quite a few times we found ourselves being boxed into our lounger space by local guests. Not really the relaxing environment we paid almost £5k to enjoy. The pool area wasn't the cleanest, locals visiting the hotel leave food and sugary drinks lying about which in turns attracts ants and wasps. There were a lot of plasters just stuck to the ground, remaining there for the duration of our holiday, pretty distugusting and unhygienic. The lifeguards round the pool are pretty irritating. You can count no more than 3 seconds between their whistles. They seem to really get a power trip with them acting as the fun police. The entertainment team I'm sure are nice enough but lack the charisma for such a large audience. The main guy seemed to get a kick out of ridiculing guests for laughs, made us feel a bit awkward and embarrassed for him. Jasmin I think it is tried to suggest we take our children back to the room after a show one night and leave them to sleep while we came back out to 'enjoy' the entertainment. The room being quite a distance and our children being quite young. Might be the done thing for some but don't think it was an appropriate suggestion from someone in that position. Best to stick to gyrating and belly flopping in the pool Jasmin. The general cleanliness of the place was a cause for concern especially as we got a letter from tui on the coach to the hotel saying there was a tummy bug going about. Nice one tui, what a way to get us excited for our fortnight away. I would put the cause of poor hygiene more down to guests themselves though than the hotel. Our bath/shower had black mould round it, my husband visited a toilet with our daughter that had poo smeared all over the floor and one day the pool had to be shut due to someone deciding they couldn't be bothered going to the toilet. Pretty disgusting overall and quite concerning that when reported to the hotel, there didn't seem to be much alarm or apology, almost like it was the norm. As harsh a review as this may seem, we've managed a nice holiday here, we always try to take the positives and enjoy our time where we can. We definitely won't be coming back to the Coba though.
