Great all inclusive resort that treats you like royalty for your money - A++
We stayed there for 3 days and wished could stay more. We arrived 4 hour earlier and hotel gave us our room on a spot - no questions asked. We had late checkout and they gave us several options to chose from - free or little pay - depends on preference. Hotel staff was amazing, service was impeccable, all questions answered and if you need any help, they all jump in. Friendly staff, great travel agency - basically, I wanna go back! We chose a room with a terrace and a jacuzzi. It was clean, pleasant. Refrigerator was always full of water, sodas and beer. We eat kosher, cannot comment on the food much but from what I saw and SMELLED, food was plentiful of great variety and great taste. We did get some fruits from the kitchen no problem also. Guests looked relaxed and happy - everyone is smiling, joking. If I could give the resort 10 stars, I would
Excellent resort, friendly staff
We stayed in Ocean front room during our stay. We are vegetarians and found enough vegetarian food. Staff was very friendly, clean swimming pools, good food, good mocktails, mohitos, pinacolada. Very clean rooms, good room service.
Top level hospitality
Large breakfast and lunch buffets, evening dinner shows, swim up pool bar. Top level hospitality at GR Solaris. I eat gluten free, and found a lot of delicious food to eat at every meal. The birthday and romance decor packages were surprisingly detailed, and started our trip happily. Thank you for a fun, wonderful vacation.
The friendliest staff, but not the best experience overall
SERVICE The thing that stands out for me about this hotel is: the staff are REALLY friendly and helpful. Throughout the whole stay every staff member did their absolute best to be welcoming. They were all very attentive, always seemed happy, and always did their best to help, even though there was a language barrier. It's actually because of the staff alone that I'm giving this resort 3* instead of 1. FOOD The food at this hotel wasn't great on several levels. A decision somewhere in management decided that Mexican food - a deciding factor in our choice to visit Mexico - would be served on the buffet only 1 day a week. This was quite disappointing, just a simple bar with some beans and rice every day would have gone a long way. In addition, at the buffets it felt a bit like they were trying to make every dish it's own meal, something which isn't great for special dietary requirements. Usually buffets aren't like this, usually it's a single product per dish which provides great flexibility. The second factor, and more significant, is that the food hygiene here is really poor and cross contamination isn't even the word for it - serving spoons were ALWAYS getting used across products, which is especially troubling for vegans (or vegetarians). At breakfast there would be bacon, gravy, etc all over the otherwise "suitable" (more on this next) products. The food could be better separated. The food preparation itself was also a massive issue for us as two vegans. Most of the products had been fried in the same oil at the same time, as meat. The aroma and taste of the cross-contamination was much stronger than the products themselves, meaning we were unable to have anything substantial at almost any meal. We only had 1 experience at the Marco Polo restaurant, and that's because the issue there was actually worse. I'm actually lactose intolerant, so when I picked a dish from the vegetarian menu I explicitly asked about it having dairy. The chef and the waiter both said it didn't have dairy. It definitely had cheese in it, leaving me in severe pain for the rest of the evening with diarrhea. HAZARDS & ACCESSIBILITY On the first day of this holiday, my mother had tripped down a poorly visible ledge coming out of a door. There was a yellow line along the edge of the ledge that in the sun isn't at all visible, no signage, and subsequently she fell and broke her foot, caused a hematoma on her leg. The staff did their best to accommodate and even let us borrow a wheelchair, however 2 other guests we'd spoken to had also either fallen or nearly fallen down this same step. It's a hazard that should be fixed and signposted. In addition to this, wheelchair access is really poor across the whole site. In the UK, commercial wheelchair ramps are supposed to be a maximum of 5 degrees incline. It seems like an accident that this resort had any ramps at all, since the ones it did have were all very steep and inappropriate - one (by the Rosmarinus restaurant) was about 40 degree incline and went around a curve, and made pushing a wheelchair around a painful exercise. There's no wheelchair access to the beach. ROOM The rooms were nice. The telephone in my room couldn't dial out (maybe because I didn't have a card on file? Not sure about this, it worked fine on-site), but the beds were comfortable, the furniture was all matching and good quality. There was a heavy lamp on the bedside table which was a bit annoying, and there were too few power outlets (none of which easily reached), but in general the room was ok. The balcony was good, with an OK view. The walls in this hotel are paper thin, and subsequently it's very noisy. You can hear your neighbors conversations, everyone in the halls, it feels like there's zero privacy. The lobby bar music is far too loud, it can be heard from the second floor and was deafening on check-in (not what you want after a long flight). Marco Polo restaurant looked nice but that's about it. The menu choice is poor and we were lied to about allergens in a simple dish. I don't understand why this place has a dress code and is reservation only. There's very bad food choice every day, every meal for vegans, and cross-contamination wary vegetarians. The salad was often soaked in vinegar, very limited, and gave us diarrhea on one occasion where it's been washed in unsafe tap water. The drinks, even the juices, were watered down at every meal (except at breakfast it seems) Over all, the redeeming quality for this was the staff.
Home Away From Home
Hi fellow travelers! We just came back from a 4 full days of sun and fun for Memorial Weekend! This is our 10th stay here GR Solaris and like always I feel right at home and spoiled above and beyond. We initially come during the 4th of July week but had an opportunity to visit sooner. The resort offers ocean views, wonderful breakfast buffets (you must try a made to order omelet made by Obilia – absolutely wonderful), 2 fine dining restaurants (Marco Polo and Zai), as well as nightly themed buffets. This resort is smaller than the big mega resorts that Cancun has to offer, which I prefer. I feel safe, you get to know the staff, as matter of fact I’ve made lifelong friends that have worked here as long as I have been coming. They make this place stand out over the others options you might consider. GR Solaris also offers daily entertainment at the pool which is one of my favorite past times. From Zumba lessons, to crazy games, to BINGO, beer drinking contests and other just all around fun stuff… This is all done by the creative, fun-loving entertainment staff. So please give a hello to Jona, Orfa, Ruben, Geri, Freddy, Itzel, Bella and last but not least CRAZY Lalo!!!! These are talented people that really enjoy what they do… Thank you guys for all the wonderful memories, I’ll be missing you this 4th of July!!! There are also themed nightly shows, and after the show, lobby bar dancing or karaoke (depending on the day)… Big shout out to Lupita, Luis and Hamilton at the bar. Love you guys! All in all, you can’t go wrong choosing this resort…. Hope you find it to be your “home away from home” like I have these past 10 years. Thank you and happy travels.
