    Nice hotel

We stayed in a garden view suite which was large and spacious. The room was well appointed. We had 11/2 bathrooms. The main one was large, had a full tub/shower and another separate shower stall. There was fresh towels throughout the day as they swapped them out. Bed was a king and very comfortable with nice feather pillows. There was a mini fridge which was nice. The orchid court was closed for renovations so the buffet breakfast was held in a banquet room. The set up was a bit haphazard. There was a shortage of food as many chafing dishes were empty. The restaurants on site were very good as we tried them all. The beach was nice with excellent snorkeling. Rated the review lower due to lack of aloha on arrival. No welcoming, no lei greeting, no luggage help, no offering of valet or self park. Had to figure it out myself. Check in was ok but did not value us being platinum members.

Gorgeous "Grand Old Lady" - Superb Staff - Large Rooms

This hotel has been around for awhile, but it has been tended to with lots of TLC. It is a beautiful hotel set in a lush tropical paradise. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and are always smiling! Special commendation to Gianna at the front desk - so wonderfully helpful to the guests. The breakfasts are very good and service is excellent, with very thoughtful servers. Our standard room was quite large, very clean, and very well equipped. The hotel is very welcoming in all ways. We will stay here again when we return to the Kona area.

    Excellent hotel in beautiful scenery

Hotels of the Fairmont brand usually are already very high class but "The Orchid" really outdid itself. Fast and friendly checkin with Lei flowerchains for the ladies and seashell chains for the gents. Spacious rooms with great views, breakfast with excellent hot and cold choices. A real highlight is the huge pool and the sea turtles (and sometimes Manta rays) that come near the shore at night. My wife especialy liked the fantastic outdoor spa - an absolute bliss and must do at "The Orchid". The staff was always quick at hand to offer advice on what to visit or which restaurants match our taste. Couldn't give higher praise to this venue and we'll definitively be back!

Waited for Room, then it had Pubic Hair, followed by 7 days of Construction Noise

Pathetic. Service is going through the motions. They KNOW you have no competing resort nearby, as Mauna Lani is closed for renovation. Waited for hours after check-in to get our room. They left us with no wifi, nowhere to go, and could not use a room number to use any of the resort restaurants. Well, at least not as a "Guest". And did we ever not feel welcomed as a Guest. The room, when ready, had pubic hair (of multiple lengths and colors, BTW), on the toilet seat and water closet tile floor. So WELCOMING. We woke up to an 8 AM buzzsaw. Literally. They were cutting wood for their new restaurant outside our Lanai. So WELCOMING. AND THE BEST PART? I go to the Front Desk and they asked, "What Noise?" Ummm, I'm not a General Contractor! The Saw NOISE, the Noise you can HEAR from HERE???!!!! What I found the most telling of it all was that on the pristine grounds, they allowed a Construction Vehicle to park in it. Not even going to even ATTEMPT to provide an illusion of a serene and quiet stay. Front Desk "inquiry" was never followed up on. They left nuts and a generic "sorry for the inconvenience" note. But WAIT. I AM ALLERGIC TO NUTS. ARE YOU TRYING TO POISON ME????? A simple apology and review of maybe moving rooms would have sufficed. But WHY would would you want to TRY AND HARM ME??? THIS PLACE SUCKED! They don't care about you. At all. They do what their told, inclusing putting potential POISON in your room. ALLERGY SUFFERRLERS, you have been warned. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Beautiful ground, private beach, nice stay

The hotel itself is beautiful, very friendly staff, and the food is good for the price. While the beach is private, it is very small, if you’re looking for a beach to swim in or do some bodyboarding, I’d suggest Hapuna beach which is a couple miles away. The beach at the hotel is quite nice for snorkeling though, the water is clear and can see fishes right off the shore, we saw many different types of fish, corals and the green sea turtles as we snorkel out a bit beyond the big rocks which is very nice. And the sunset is just amazing!!
