Authentic Mexican Style - Unrefined with luxurious touches
First, let me say I'm a travel agent and have traveled to numerous luxury AI properties in the area. I chose this hotel due to my client's mix reviews, so I wanted to experience it for myself. I love ElDorado Maroma, and I looked forward to the Seaside Suites. The compound is actually made up of 3 properties - ElDorado Seaside, Sensimar/Blue Seaside by Tui (previously the old ElDorado), and Hidden Beach Au Natural. The check-in for the ElDorado as well as 3 restaurants and the lounge bar are in an awkward location far removed from the ElDorado building. It really requires a golf cart and there are no direct paths from the hotel building. The ElDorado infinity section rooms were lovely and decor is simple. Karisma has the most comfortable mattresses with great linens and pillows. The bathrooms are simple but huge and luxurious. The swimout pool was beautiful, but it was much too cold to enjoy during the cooler months. We sometimes had turn-down service and sometimes they forgot. Closet space, quality toiletries, and luxurious robes were lovely touches. The chaise on the balcony was heavenly. 4.5 stars on the room. I would choose this resort again for the room alone. Note, the Palms section of ElDorado is actually located on the Tui Sensimar/Blue property in older rooms. So, note they are not updated and fellow travellers verbalized their experience. The beach at the ElDorado was non-existent. It was solid rock covered with sand. If you love peace and quiet, it is perfect. The complimentary beach beds are a luxurious touch that goes far above other resorts. One day a band played on the beach and was fun. Overall, it's a beautiful quiet place to watch the water. Just know it's not the sparkling Caribbean blue. The pool is set apart from the beach and not heated. There were 4 free-standing jacuzzi tubs below the pool, and they were not heated as well. Lack of heated pools and jacuzzi tubs was a disappointment for a luxury resort. Food at ElDorado needs a gigantic improvement. We were only there for a short stay and could not get a reservation for our entire stay at their restaurants - only the buffet. For ElDorado, that's just not okay. We were told by our personal concierge to go there at 9pm due to cancellations. Upon arrival and half an empty restaurant at 2 different restaurants, we were told they could not seat us and even stated the kitchen was closed after their last seating at 9pm. Really not a good thing for Karisma here when you have empty restaurants. The Driftwood Grill was open for lunch at ElDorado and was excellent. Top shelf liquors were available and service was average to very good depending on location. Nightlife was interesting. They have a lounge on the 4th floor that was interesting. It had a pool table and played music. It was a pretty odd space that really missed the boat for design and purpose. There is no place at the ElDorado Seaside for an evening quiet cocktail. ElDorado Seaside is lacking and needs some improvement for its guests. Their redesign missed the mark of what the old resort offered. However Tui's partnership next door - Tui Sensimar/Blue saved the day. It is actually a different hotel now but you have access to all facilities. It it older, airy, and more tropical. It had lovely open air bars serving great cocktails with live music in the evenings. Tropical vibe. We were able to get a dinner reservation one evening on the Sensimar side and the food was good. The beach was fabulous, iconic Caribbean blue. The beach breakfast was amazing and made to order Hollandaise for my husband on request. We left wishing we'd spent our time next door at the Sensimar rather than the ElDorado. So for future travellers.... make your dinner reservations on Open Table several days before you go! When you arrive, know it may take 3 days to get into a restaurant. Enjoy the pools and beach at the Sensimar/Blue side. If you like quiet and simple without expectation of modern design and complete luxury, you will enjoy your stay. The chill vibe is great. I would consider a return in the hotter months with that balcony pool. It is a solid 4 star hotel, lacking in some spots, shining in others.
Fabulous 2 Weeks Holiday
Stayed here with husband for 2 weeks and had a fabulous time. Check in was smooth with friendly and efficient staff and Rudolfo our porter took us on a buggy to our room explaining all the details we needed to know about our room. The following day at our request he took us on a tour of the hotel giving us hints and tips about the bars, restaurants, activities etc which was really helpful. Room had everything we needed and was cleaned daily to a high standard and with fresh towels. Mini bar filled daily - just leave a note of what you want. Room and bathroom could maybe do with a little updating but was still really lovely. Restaurants whether the al a carte ones or the others that you could go into at any time served amazing food. Staff were friendly attentive and nothing a trouble. Concierge was great arranging fresh milk daily to be sent to our room to have with our tea/coffee. Fresh beach towels every day. Beach bar service. Bar staff great. Sun beds on the beach could do with updating and were a little uncomfortable - could do with pads on them. Evening entertainment varied every night with some great live bands. Tipping although not compulsory is gratefully received and so worth it given the standard of service you get from all staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend.
Was a trip with a group of friends and we really love all the staff the food the service all of they are great and we really enjoy the activities with s the team Sexi Claudia, Yeni, David ey papi we love you, you’re the best one, and Gabi of course and the beach butler Manuel
Good Hotel, but not Spectacular
We had a nice vacation, and want to make sure the people who made it nice get their due credit, but we did not love this resort. We stayed in the swim out suite and the pools get so much shade (freezing cold consequently), we did not even use it. The rooms were OK, but are showing their age. I had to frequently call to request water, as they did not restock it regularly. Housekeeping seemed to "leave one thing off" each visit...missing bathmats...no towel replacement, etc... Room Service was fast and very concerned about providing great service, although we did not use it much. The required reservation system for a la carte restaurants was a pain. We were not able to get days/times we wanted for 75% of our dinners. The food was good, but I wouldn't classify it as gourmet. But, hey, we were in Mexico, on vacation, and it wasn't horrible!!! Shout out to some employees who went above and beyond: Aldo (coffee table/show), Gerardo at the Seaside Pool who was always at the ready to serve, Carlos at Klay Talay who was attentive and friendly, Alejandro who took photos - super nice guy, Angel at La Carreta - an excellent server who helped me get a bit of 1921 Creme Tequila to enjoy, Antonio at the Terraza Bar who shared cooking tips as well as poured us some nice drinks, and Eugenia who was a Butler to some friends we met. She was very friendly, and one of the nicest people we met there. Don't do the tour/sales pitch unless you have several hours to kill. They were completely disrespectful of our vacation time (and very pushy). Luckily, we did receive free massages in return, and enjoyed those thoroughly. We don't normally utilize the spa, and were very glad to have experienced that. Bottom Line - we had a good vacation, but will not return to this resort.
Just ok. Not worth far drive from airport
With all of the other hotels in the greater Cancun area, this resort is a little past its prime and doesn’t prioritize service/upkeep. They are a little unorganized. We luckily upgraded rooms to the top floor because we traveled during the slow season so it wasn’t too expensive. I’m glad we did because any floor below the top floor isn’t as nice and the views are super constricted. For the price of this resort you can go to nicer places with better beaches. I also say it’s NOT worth the hour and fifteen minute drive from the Cancun airport. It was my husband’s birthday and our concierge told us there would be a special treat in our room, but that never happened. Concierge did nothing he said he was going to do, including ridding our room of ants (ants were all over the coffee station upon arrival). We also paid extra to have a private ride back to the airport at a time of our choosing, and when it was time to leave the staff pretended we never upgraded our transportation/fought with us that we still needed to leave extremely early. Other than that, the resort is pretty quiet which was nice. Room service was pretty fast and good food. The beach area staff were GREAT and VERY accommodating. Service from Manuel, Gaby, David, Claudia, and Yeni around the pool/ beach beds were the best part of our trip. They were very professional and helpful.
