Poor Front Desk Management
Upon arrival to the resort we were greeted by a friendly staff and offered drinks while we waited out turn to check-in. We weren’t able to check because we were early, which was totally fine, and told that we could explore the resort and restaurants while we waited on check-in time. My friends and I did just that. The grounds were beautiful and there were many restaurants to choose from. After exploring and eating we came back at about a quarter to 3pm to check in. There was only one person at the desk assisting and the couple checking was there at least 25-30 min (which is a half hour after check in time). When it was our turn the attendant indicated that our rooms (2) were not yet ready. To say in the least we were a bit annoyed that our rooms weren’t ready and there really wasn’t much apology for it. Not only did we check in late but one of our two rooms was a king when we booked two queen beds. Once we checked into our rooms, one of the rooms had a toilet that would not completely flush. We immediately called for assistance. While we never saw anyone come, we were told someone had been there. Well, the toilet never flushed properly for our entire stay. Additionally, during our stay we decided to do an excursion (charged to the room and paid at checkout). On the day of the excursions and verifying our rooms at the front desk, they lost the copies of our passports taken at check in. It was VERY unsettling to have had 4 passport photos “misplaced”. As you can imagine you start to wonder if there’s something shady going on. They wanted us to go get our passports for them to copy again which we were hesitant to do bc of the carelessness already shown. Eventually our passport photocopies were found in the files of another room not assigned to us. Again, we were nervous about additional rooms being charged to us. Our excursion started far past our scheduled time, and still, not much apology or complimentary anything for the inconveniences we faced during our stay. While we did truly enjoy the resort the administration was less than pleasing and for the price we expected far better. During our stay, we planned to book our next trip there with our spouses, but once the front desk lost the copies of our documents we decided to explore other companies. Passports contain very sensitive information that should be secure at all times. This was just completely unacceptable to us. We like knowing that our information is secure and that our reservations are solid.
6 day get away
After six days here’s what I have to say about this place staffing and people super friendly food wonderful rooms very clean lots of swimming pools lots of places to unwind and relax no kids allowed hallelujah !!! you can always find a pool playing the kind of music you want to listen to however not the resort to come to if you are wanting to swim in the ocean. There are several man-made reef structures kind of an eyesore — tons of seaweed but other than that property was a joy. Getting a cocktail was extremely easy anywhere on the property. They had high-quality American liquor. If you’re planning a trip soon my advice would be not to travel on Friday had a two hour wait flying from Dallas once we got to the airport immigration took forever we arrived around 3 pm The DJ in front of Jo Jo’s every night was the best we sat on rope swings at the bar. Room service was pretty much the head 24 seven fresh fruit plate was the real deal. We never left the resort plenty of nightlife and activities during the day if you’re interested in volleyball/football in the swimming pool They actually filled the entire swimming pool up with 3 feet of foam bubbles with DJ getting the crowd into it. I would say they were less than 30% occupied I will definitely come back. The pictures are from the balcony third floor building one. Can’t go wrong with any room in building one Very laid back fell!! good times
Wedding and Vacation
My now husband and I got married here April 7th 2019. We booked this resort over a year and a half in advance and let me tell you things were amazing. Yes communication was rough early on, but that was because it was so early on. Our wedding coordinator was Martha who set us up with a spreadsheet of all of our requests including prices and some pictures. There were moments I had to wait a few weeks for answers back but once we were a month out from the wedding the answers came back sooner. Luckily, we were able to come to the resort twice prior to the wedding to not only scope out where we wanted to host the ceremony and reception but also to have a food/cake tasting. Those who took us around to show us the spots (Martha along for everything) were so accommodating. The food tasting was wonderful and so hard to choose what we wanted because it was all so good. Leading up to the wedding there was a lot of hard decisions to be made but Martha, my TA and family made it a little easier. When we got to the hotel we got a letter stating when we would meet with Martha, our onsite coordinator and host to go over everything. And we went over EVERYTHING. This was so amazing as there was still a few questions I had. It took over an hour and a half as we did every piece of the wedding. Very helpful. The day of we booked the spa at the Casitas section to get ready in starting at 12. Now I had a makeup rehearsal the night before which went smoothly so I already knew what mine would look like and I got the same girl-I used the airbrush makeup which was amazing. We all checked in and were treated to champagne and small treats. (eat before because it’s not a lot of food). The hair and makeup team there are great, everyone looked fabulous and they were all on time which was a plus. I had my hair stylist come from home to do my hair so we had to book the bridal suite so she could come up there. While we were up there the onsite coordinator came up to give us the weather of the day and deliver the flowers. The resort did all of my flowers which were so beautiful. I brought my own photographers as well and they arrived around 1pm to start shooting. My ceremony was at 5pm. From what Carson has told me they got their grooms room easily and had beer, liquor and food there to get ready in. Our ceremony was at JoJo’s pier. Now I didn’t know this but I guess we didn’t have enough chairs, so when everyone was being seated my dad and a few of the groomsmen had to grab 2-3 chairs from JoJo’s for guests. The set up was beautiful. We did the pure glamour décor without the chair tails or covers. We had our own minister and we had one of our guests sing. They did such a good job of bringing me down with my mom to the pier so that I was not seen to be walked down by my dad. After the ceremony we had our reception at the White Gazebo. We added lights above and at the gazebo which was well recommended. Because of the wind some of the big flowers had to be placed on the ground instead of on our head table but it still looked really good. The décor was pure glamour as well with pink roses that I picked out on my own. Martha did a good job of giving me prices for whatever I requested. I gave the DJ names of some songs and requested top hits after that. He did just that and kept the party going the whole time. We had DJ Mix and the MC did a great job, everyone could hear him and no one left the dance floor the whole time. The food was perfect. According to guests the appetizers during cocktail hour were delicious-we did Coastal bliss selection and for dinner we did shrimp risotto and then either chicken in a cilantro cream sauce or steak and fish. The cake was yummy either being strawberry or champagne. We brought our own cake topper. Only miss up was we had to cut the cake twice because the first time they had forgotten to put the cake topper on. For our exit they do not allow sparklers and therefore we brought our own big glow sticks to use for the party at the end and to use for the exit. I could not say more good things about this resort. The wedding department exceeded my expectations. I have been to this resort four times now and I will be back for sure. I would recommend this as a place to vacation, get married, renew your vows, etc. The staff are fantastic and my wedding was everything I could have dreamed of.
And then today happened
So we arrived Friday August 9th for quick 4 night get away to celebrate our anniversary. We hit a speed bump with the concierge and to tell the truth I was very unhappy with Karisma and El Dorado. Mistakes happen and things go wrong. It’s about what you do when that happens that separates the good from the bad. First the Manager I spoke with stepped up to fix the issues. Then today happened. We booked a private Bali bed with butler service in the Royale Oasis. Wow, wow, wow!!!!! We spent the day being pampered by Jorge! We have stayed with a lot of different resorts but have found nothing compares to Karisma. Jorge was absolutely what we love about Karisma. His attention, attitude and effort is exactly why we come back time and time again to Karisma. Jorge thanks!!! And Karisma we will see y’all in November!
Jorge and the Royale Bali Bed was the highlight of our trip!
Haven’t even left the resort yet but wanted to take a few moments to relay how absolutely wonderful this day has been. We rented a Royale Bali bed for today as it is our 19th wedding anniversary. Have to say that we will now do this every time we visit a Karisma resort. The attentive, friendly and exceptional service we received from Jorge is undoubtably the best we have ever had. This man is a credit to your staff and a shining star. Jorge, we can’t thank you enough for today. It was excellente! Thank you, gracias and merci! Jana Smith Melissa, TX
