Good stay overall
We recently stayed for a week. Both my husband and our 12-y/o son loved this resort! I, on the other hand, enjoyed it but didn’t necessarily love it. Pros: 1. beautiful long stretch of sandy golden beach 2. spacious, clean rooms w/good-sized balconies 3. great ocean views 4. majority of the staff are fantastic 5. food is good overall 6. large pools that never feel overcrowded with sufficient lounge chairs poolside 7. good fun activities Cons: 1. far from downtown (approx 30 mins without traffic) 2. service can vary from staff members 3. not too much going on later in the evenings (this might be a pro for some as it can get quiet) My own negative experiences here: 1. took about 26 hours to finally get slippers that I requested (after being told multiple times that they’ll be sent to our room) 2. once at the lunch buffet, after being seated, NO ONE came to give us any water (very hot day) nor check on us until we were basically done our meal 3. once at Oceana for dinner our server seemed miserable (and this just so happened when we had friends from the Now Amber joining us for dinner) These negative experiences were minor and so I made no complaints at the time (just little annoyances), but make no mistake — these little annoyances will make me think twice about staying here again the next time we plan a trip to PVR/Nuevo Vallarta. Food was average to good, but some exceptionally delicious dishes came from: * Portofino - shrimp fettuccine, risotto, steak filet * Oceana - crusted ahi tuna, mahi mahi, coconut shrimp, ceviche * El Patio - beef skirt The buffet on the Mexican fiesta night (Fri evening) was surprisingly very very good (even though I’ve never been a fan of buffet food anywhere). Our room was clean and very spacious - we enjoyed the view! We had daily housekeeping and turn-down service, and had our mini fridge refilled daily. The majority of the staff here are amazingly friendly and helpful. Also, important to mention that we never felt harassed about attending their presentation on the membership program they have. You’ll be asked - but once you give them a firm “no”, you won’t be asked again. ** Notable staff: Arturo - his daily smiles and friendliness made us feel very welcomed here and he was very helpful and hardworking! The staff attending to poolside service were all great as well! Martin from Portofino - the kindest, and his service was incredible!
Great family vacation with 7 year old and his friends!
Really great experience! First all inclusive and would definitely recommend. My 7 year old son and his gussied loved the amazing endless pool. The food was exceptional. I was a regular at CoCo's coffee bar. This was a very easy relaxing getaway. We fell in love with Mexico at Dreams. Very easy transport to Puerto Vallarta downtown, The best part was the exception service of the staff. They were great in setting up Dolphin adventures and do not miss an outing to Caletas where you can experience Stingrays and Sea Lions up close. A special shout-out to Raudel who took care of all of my family's needs. Thank you Dreams!
Classic Excellence at Dreams!
My family and I stayed at Dreams Villamagna from July 21-28. We've gone to 11 different resort chains over the course of 12 vacations — Dreams has been our only ever repeat, and it's because of just how amazing Dreams resorts are. They never disappoint, and this was no exception. Dreams is about as luxurious and high-quality of an experience as you can expect from a resort. The grounds are beautiful. All the pools are spectacular and there's a gorgeous stretch of beach. The sand isn't as white as on the East Coast, and the water isn't as clear, but the water is warm, it's a lovely blue, and most importantly — no seaweed!! There are a lot of waves, even when it isn't windy, so do watch out for that. But overall, gorgeous water and swimming. There aren't that many palapas but we never found it to be an issue. People stay out until late — the resort is half timeshare properties so people are often out at the pool until 9pm or later (even though it officially closes at 8pm). When we first arrived, the staff greeted us with champagne and such courteous service. The receptionists were super helpful and did their best to accomodate any requests. After the flight and bus ride to the resort, I was feeling sick and as though all I wanted to do was sleep, but the friendly service and impressive lobby and rooms immediately restored me. It's amazing, what a relaxing effect being there had! A note about the weather: we arrived in a rainstorm and there were several thunderstorms while we were there, but usually either in the evening or during the night/early morning. They're short and then the sun comes out and everything dries up quickly; that's just how the rainy season is! Regarding rooms, they are large (some of the largest we've seen, including a sitting area and balcony with a jacuzzi) and open. They are updated, clean, well-stocked, and well-serviced. Everything you would need; a really comfortable bed with tons of pillows; and spectacular views. Our rooms had a tropical view of the mountains, but there was some ocean in the corner too and we got a view of the sunrise every morning. I have to say, without a doubt we were most impressed by the quality of the food at this resort. Every meal we had was delicious, at every restaurant we tried. The World Café (the buffet) has a comparatively small selection, but everything there is top-quality. They also have themed nights for dinner. Coco Café has some great treats and coffee and is open until midnight. Oceana, by the pool, is an à la carte with excellently prepared seafood. It shares the space with the Barefoot Grill (which makes figuring out where you can sit mildly confusing), and the Grill has great chicken nuggets and round-the-clock fare for when you're hungry. We also had an excellent meal at the Mexican à la carte, El Patio — so much so that we went there twice! Absolutely would recommend the Aztec cake if you go there. On that note, I also really wanted to commend the service at this resort. We had some truly exceptional staff throughout our visit, a lot of whom I wanted to recognize. We actually organized this trip to celebrate my sister's 15th birthday (her Quinceañera in Mexico!), and my parents organized a special evening for her with the concierges, Monserrat and Rosa. The El Patio restaurant staff, especially the manager Rosa and our server Jonathan, made it very special night. We got to chat with Jonathan quite a bit and he was so helpful with picking out what to order and giving some birthday life advice :) The staff was super attentive and prepared a surprise birthday cake and celebration for my sister — it was truly a special night!! Many thanks to them for arranging that. Other mentions for service: Our maid Ana did such a great job keeping our room spotless. Gabriela and Ana, the maitre d's from World Café, were really friendly and got to know us over the course of the week. Mae, the chef at the omelette station at breakfast, is so impressive at cracking eggs and also was great as we tried to pick up some Spanish and chat with her. Francisco from the Barefoot Grill was friendly when we came by for lunch every day. Gerado, one of the servers from the beach, was nice and attentive, but especially, we wanted to recognize Julio, who was probably the friendliest, most attentive, and enthusiastic server we've ever had at the beach. He came by regularly to ask how we were doing and take our drink orders, chat with us, take our photos, etc. Julio was also very helpful in a special situation we landed in this particular vacation, when on our first day, I had the bad luck of getting stung by a stingray in the water. It's a super rare and random thing to happen and it was initially rather scary. Nonetheless, I have only good things to say about how the staff handled the entire situation. Julio initially told us what it was and called security to take me up to the hotel doctor, Ana. She was very nice and did her best to explain everything to us. They did send me to the hospital overnight (a very nice stay at Puerto Vallarta's Hospiten, a private hospital, but thank goodness for travel insurance — never travel without it!!). Again, only kindness and attentiveness from hospital staff and from the staff at the resort where my injury was concerned. It made what could have been a very scary situation into one which barely made a negative impact on our vacation. I just have a couple of feedback points. I know it's a Dreams policy not have bracelets at resorts, which is normally great, however... This resort is combined with timeshare properties who do not share in the all-inclusive aspects of the resort. Every time you go to the restaurant, the bar, Coco Café, etc., they ask for your room number and look up your name. It gets tedious and annoying to have to repeat that all the time, when you could have bracelet to verify you're part of the resort. Also, I was even asked for ID when I ordered a cocktail, which could easily have been remedied if they had adult vs. child bracelets. It's a small feedback point but it would be nice not to have to bother with room numbers all the time. Overall, it was an amazing family vacation and for me, I would love to go there again!!
Vacation with Family.
The rooms were wonderful. Very clean and comfortable. The staff are excellant namely: Alberto - Pool Waiter. Excellant Xiomara - Entertainment team. Very knowlegable and eager to assist. Alex - Entertainment team. Great Personality and knowlege of the area. All in all, a great experience.
WOW!!! what a beautiful resort. We are seasoned travelers mostly in adult only all inclusive resorts. We were pleasantly surprised at Dreams Villamagna . This property has lots of space, pools and chairs extremely clean and well maintained. The spa is modern, clean and inviting. The food was great but above all the staff extra special. Always smiling and making sure you were taken care of. Lots of restaurants to choose from but our favorites who made this trip fantastic were Oceana with Francisco and his team (Regina, Andres, Viviana, Franck and Mario) made our breakfasts serene and enjoyable. Portofino...EXCEPTIONAL!!! with Jose and his team (Paulina, Hector, Martin, Daniel ). We had our own private table (very romantic) with exquisite meals and service. We stayed in a Preferred room ocean view (very spacious) with great views. This is a great resort for either couple or families. You will not regret it !!
