Beautiful beach, food.. Not so much
Beach is beautiful although there is a serious shortage of loungers and space for them. Facilities are very nice and clean. Food was a big disappointment. Staff, without exception, was phenomenal! Our room was on the small side but I will take blame, I did not look at square footage. Minibar restock and room service was exceptional.
Awesome Bartender at Dream Sands
Dream Sands was amazing! Especially Armando Vega at the preferred lounge bar on the 8th floor. Had a few incredible melon collada frozen drinks that were the favourite of the weekend. All the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Excellent service, beautiful beach, well maintained property
We stayed here November 2019 for 6 nights with another couple. We enjoyed our stay very much and would certainly return, but not everything was perfect so I wanted to share my experience so other guests can know what to expect. We stayed in the Preferred Club, and were immediately directed to the preferred club check-in area upon arriving, with the bell boys taking our luggage. The check-in area is also the preferred club lounge, so there was a bar and some light fare available when we arrived around 2pm. We waited perhaps 5-10 minutes (beer in hand) before being checked in, which was a smooth and easy process. The room was very nice, clean, and a lovely view of the ocean. No balcony in our "ocean view" room which was kind of a bummer. Some rooms did have balconies, I'm not sure if that is only for "ocean front" or you have to specifically reserve that room type. The air conditioner worked fairly well in our room, we were cool enough, and was extremely cold in our friend's room. One area that was less than stellar was the shower. The water pressure was barely a drizzle, and the temperature was extremely inconsistent. It didn't matter if I set the temperature for high or low, one moment it would be fine and the next scalding hot so much that I would have to back out of the water and wait for it to go back down. Is that a deal breaker for me? No. A minor inconvenience. Just want you to be aware and prepared to jump back when needed haha. The beach is absolutely beautiful, powdery white sand and no seaweed, which is wonderful. There are some coral/rocky areas which make for fun photos but not so happy feet, and also provide some shelter for fish and other wildlife which is cool to watch. We spent most days in the preferred club beach area, and the main servers we had were Manuel and Janet. Both were excellent and kept the drinks coming with a smile. By the end of the week we didn't even have to ask, Manuel would just bring us what we wanted :) I like that in an all-inclusive. We tipped, and they seemed sincerely appreciative. It's a smaller resort, with only 2 pools. One where they do the activities like water aerobics, which looked fun, and the more "quiet" pool. There seemed to be plenty of loungers but around the activity pool looked full in the afternoons. The pools and grounds are very well maintained and you will constantly see workers cleaning, wiping up sand and water. Seems like a losing battle on a beach but everything looked great so they are doing something right! We weren't thrilled with people smoking on the beach. It wasn't excessive, but since the resort is on the smaller side it would be hard to designate a smoking area that would be far enough away from the non-smoking areas that it would make a difference. Oh well. Since we were preferred club we had the option to eat breakfast at Olios, and did so every morning except one that was pouring down rain so we went to the buffet. Olios was much better, the hostess Angelica was very pleasant and we had several different waiters and they were all great. The food was also excellent. The buffet was just too busy and the waiters had too many tables. It had all the usual buffet offerings, including an omelet station. We ordered room service for breakfast one morning as well, it took a while to get there but was tasty. For lunch we either ate the Barefoot grill offerings, which were surprisingly tasty - burgers one day, hot dogs one day, gyros another. Sometimes you had to wait a few minutes, but it was convenient to be able to take it back to our lounge chairs and munch on the beach. We also went to Olios one day for lunch and it was very good. We didn't visit the buffet for dinner, instead opting to try all the a la carte restaurants. El Patio (Mexican), Portofino (Itallian), and Waves & Sands (adults only) were all excellent. We weren't that impressed with Himitsu (Asian) or Gaucho (steak), but I still say it's worth the experience to check them out. And if you don't like what you're having or are still hungry after, just head on to the next place or the buffet. The service at all the restaurants was very good. The house wines at Portofino were more than sufficient for our group of typical beer drinkers. Lastly, the preferred club lounge was a great place to meet up with friends for a drink or a shot of tequila before heading to dinner...or the beach at 11am haha. I can't remember what time they start serving drinks on the beach, maybe 10am? But whatever it is they won't pour shots before that time. Some all inclusives that we've been to won't give straight shots at all, but they don't have a problem with it. Armando Vega was fantastic, greeted us each day with a smile and a cold beer. We aren’t big on mixed drinks but he seemed to know his stuff and was efficient and friendly with everyone. Elmer at the preferred lounge was also great. They have various food throughout the day, delicious ham and cheese sandwiches in the morning and some yummy desserts later in the evening. Overall it was a fantastic stay and we will consider staying here again. This was our 5th time staying at an all-inclusive resort in Cancun and we plan to continue to do so at least once a year. We look for relaxation, good food, good service, at a good value. Dreams Sands delivered on all fronts so it will be on our short list for our next trip. Thank you Dreams and team!
Fun Quick Trip
Just got back from Dreams Sands Cancun today. Overall it was a great little trip, resort was in really good shape and always kept clean. Our room was excellent and clean, views are breathtaking from the resort. The staff was overall very friendly. I thought Carlos, on the entertainment crew was phenomenal. He really took the time to know the people and get them involved in the activities. Roberto and Elvis at the swim up pool bar was awesome, always very friendly and quick with the drinks. Food overall was good, portions are small at the specialty restaurants. The waits for dinner weren’t bad at all, the longest we waited was for the Asian restaurant and it was worth it. Our waiter balanced two forks on a toothpick on a bottle of wine, incredible. I highly recommend this resort, you will always find something you won’t like but all the good out weighed the few minor blemishes. I would go back.
Last minute getaway trip to Cancun
Had a great time at Dreams Sands. This was a last minute birthday trip, and the resort did not disappoint. Rooms are rather small, but clean. Staff all very attentive and with a smile. Beach is small. All rooms are Oceanview, but don't expect to see the sunrise. Something we've come accustomed when visiting Cancun. The hotel rooms face northwest. Spectacular sunset views. Overall a good choice. Explorers Club ladies were all great, and my children loved the daily activities. The only downside is that the time-share people can get pushy. The resort credits offered come with a sales pitch.
