Customer Ratings & Reviews
TripAdvisor Traveler RatingBased on 7037 reviews
The building was old, rooms were small, and it was a little rough. I enjoy the service, the pools were nice and the beach was shaded in the morning which was nice. It had jet ski rental and parasailing next to the beach which was not affiliated with the hotel.
This was my first time to Cancun and my first all inclusive outside of Colombia, so I had no expectations. I arrived around 11:30, before the 3 PM check-in. I paid extra for the "preferred club" so upon arrival, my bags were stored and I was taken to the check-in area on the 8th floor. I was told my room was not ready but I would be able to use the facilities until the room was ready. Great. Not really. The woman who checked me in told me I had to go back down to the lobby and use the public bathroom to change into my bathing suit; not mentioning the fact there was a private bathroom in the Preferred Club lounge. The public bathroom had 2 stalls and was not well maintained so it was rather uncomfortable trying to change into a bathing suit with urine on the floor. This set the tone. After I was able to check in at 1:30 (a bit before the official check-in time), I explained my situation to the Preferred Lounge representative, Esmeralda, I was actually scolded and told that I should be happy that I was allowed to check in early. Throughout my stay, I felt uncomfortable visiting the Preferred Lounge when Esmeralda was on duty, as she was not at all friendly and, frankly, a bit intimidating. I brought this to the attention of management. Ok, I'm checked in and settled into my room. Here are my pros/cons: Pros: 1. First and foremost, Jorge Garcia, the Chief Concierge, was amazing. Anytime I needed anything, he was there and went out of his way to help. Jorge is a true asset to the hotel and I cannot give him enough praise. 2. The cleanliness of the resort. Everywhere you went, the staff were always making sure things were in order. 3. The beach. Amazing location. No seaweed. I loved walking everyday up and down the beach. 4. The food (see cons). Preferred guests had access to Olio, a sit-down restaurant for breakfast, as opposed to the buffet. Totally recommended. Good quality and the staff were great. 5. The room. Well maintained. Prior reviews said the rooms were old but I didn't feel that way. My room was great. The only problem is that the thermostat won't go lower than 22C. That's a problem for people who like it cooler when sleeping. Maintenance staff were very helpful (again, thanks to Jorge) and were able to bring it down to 19C so I was able to sleep comfortably. Cons: 1. First and foremost, one particular employee in the Preferred Lounge. Esmeralda, was not at all welcoming. I felt very uncomfortable asking her for help. That said, the bartenders there were amazing. Lovely gentlemen who made great drinks and offered great conversation. 2. Subjective enforcement of resort "rules". I had an early morning tour one morning so I made sure I was at the buffet breakfast at 7:00 am when it opened. I was told by Mauricio that I would not be allowed in because I was wearing a tank top. I explained to him that the day before there was a large group of Germans (it was a group of 20+) who were all eating there without shirts, so I assumed the dress policy was relaxed), but Mauricio insisted I return to my room to get a t-shirt. If you're going to have a policy, please enforce it. Mauricio also needs a bit of training regarding customer service. I would have loved to give the hotel a 4 or 5 rating, but they need some personnel changes or training.
Dream come true
Celebrating our 10 year anniversary we Decided to stay at this hotel because of the great reviews back in February and the view of the beautiful ocean. Upon arriving the first day the facility grounds was spectacular and modern especially by the lobby area. Our room (though dated and nothing like the picture on Expedia) had a great view of the oceanfront, however the shore line was plagued with sandbags and merky seaweed. At first I was disappointed since the main attraction of what we look for in a resort is a great beach and maybe they had no control of this. So we brought this to the attention of concierge staff. Shout out to Lorena and Gustavo (older one). They were very accommodating and even upgraded our room to preferred status with access to vip amenities. This was a huge turning point in the remainder of our trip. Lorena especially was with us from day one and made us feel very special for the next 5 days and was there at every turn. Lazaro our beach butler worked hard in the sun not just for us but for all guest he was tending to.. our cups were never empty of a drink. We too enjoyed dinner at Sands and Waves. We loved the buffet especially during breakfast. Bartender Jesus in VIP Lounge was on point as well. There was always friendly staff and staff cleaning feverishly throughout all parts of the hotel.. our maid Silvia was awesome at keeping our room up to par! Lastly, Johana and Enrique from United vip club sales were great! We got all of our gifts as promised for attending the sales pitch. Would def consider purchasing a membership in the future. Thanks Dreams!
Shout out to the staff
I stayed 5 nights at the Dreams Sands recently for the Ophthalmologist Congress in Cancun. The overall experience was positive, but I would like to highlight the work of the hotel staff. They were all very kind, friendly and attentive to my needs. Specially Leticia, the Wedding and Groups Manager, that helped me accommodate my group and organize a business event in the hotel. Many thanks to her for the perfect outcome, for being efficient, patient and a good listener, and to the rest of the staff involved. I want to thank also German from the Spa for the hydrotherapy circuit and the excellent explanation of the benefits of it. He took good care of me. It was very relaxing and I noticed the therapeutic effect. You all are doing a great job, keep like this!
Less that mediocre service
This review would be a novel if I listed the problems my group and I encountered at the resort. First, we arrived on time, actually a little early and waited to check in our rooms. Only to be told that the rooms wouldn't be ready for 30 minutes...which okay, fine. We come back approximately in 30 minutes and were told the rooms will be ready in an hour. Upon check-in we were told that we had $200 in resort credit and that they would give us the coupons use. We didn't get the coupons until our 2nd to last day - i.e. we were leaving the following day. We tried to use the coupons on a romantic dinner that we had on day one, but was told it was not romantic (despite it being on the beach, mood lighting and fireworks) and that the coupons must be surrendered at the time. The service was awful - we asked for towels and was only given a set (body, face and hand towel) for TWO people. The nighly check in process was awful and demeaning - we would have to tell them our name and room number each time to gain entry, which wasn't the issue - the issue was having to "verify" "information" in their "system" each time. So what should be a insert name and room number here, became a 15 minute process. This isn't half of what we experienced, but I'll end here. Overall, DO NOT stay here.
