    Very Good Experience

We travel frequently to Mexico but always stay south of Cancun proper in the Riviera Maya region. This was our first stay in the Cancun Hotel Zone so I have really no basis of comparison to similar resorts. With that said here is my review. In summary, We had a wonderful time and would definitely stay here again. The resort os small and compact so there is not much walking and everything is close by. Our room was a Premium Oceanfront King (no balcony) with floor to ceiling windows. Here are some details of our stay - Service was impeccable no matter where you are on the resort. Can't say enough. - Food was mixed, some good some average. Two nights a week they have an outside "show" and buffet with stations. Some of the station foor was good; some was overcooked. - Bars/Drinks for us were excellent, because we opted for the Preferred Upgrade. Trust me, without it the quality of drinks is not so good. - Preferred/Premium is a must IMO. There is a separate check in lounge; premium liquors; a Preferred only pool and beach chairs; 2 additional bars (lounge and poolside); 24 hr room service and more. No getting up aty 6:30 am to save pool chairs. The pool concierge ensures that you get the seats you want every day. (or close by). There is an a-la-carte restaurant for Breakfast open only to Premiere guests. - Beach: Best we have seen in Mexico. Because of the Cancun geography the Hotel actually faces West (not East) so the beach has no erosion and minimal seaweed. You can walk out 200 yds and still be waist deep in a beautiful sandbar. - Pools: I mentioned the Preferred Pool which is wonderful. Poolside service all day and close to restrooms. The other pools, not so good. One pool had probably 50% of the tiles missing from the bottom making walking awkward; One pool had no entryway. None. The only entry was to climb in/out over a 4 foot wall. So I would would highly recommend this resort but only if you opt for the Preferred option. You don't need a balcony (never in your room) but go for it if you want. The food, drink, pool, and check in/ concierge options are a must IMO. By the way ... all of the statt are wonderful but be sure to eat outside at the buffet and ask for Jorge. He makes your day.

Amazing beach, other things left to be desired.

Beach is amazing. That's the reason to go and return. Very helpful staff!! Slightly dated hotel with bottom shelf drinks and fake sugary juices. Buffet was better than most of the speciality restaurants. Inconsistent shower temps. Annoying entertainment on the stage each night in my humble opinion. Hyatt membership means nothing; have to pay for preferred seating on beach -- often not enough regular seating because chairs ran out quickly due to saving with towels for people who spent most of their time elsewhere during the day. Nice tour upon arrival, though they didn't offer us any food or drink and then proceeded to try to upsell us on excursions, etc. while we were tired and just wanted to rest after traveling! Overall, good, and glad we went. Not sure if we'll return unless they step it up a bit.

    Awesome Beach

Great resort. Loved the affordable family friendly atmosphere. Beach was clean with powdery white sand. Food was very good with many options. AC worked great plus plenty of hot water. Great views of the ocean & the lagoon side right outside in the hallway.

Dreams Sands Cancun...some good things and some bad things

Food: Our first meal on the day we arrived was at El Patio where I had octopus taco and grilled shrimp. A couple of hours later I had food poisoning for the first time in 56 years. That was 3 hours of things coming out of both ends. My wife's meal was fine and had no issues. We typically did the buffet for breakfast and lunch and it was decent (it's an all-inclusive buffet so they are all kinda the same). We ate at Gaucho grill twice with the first time being very good and the 2nd time we were there for over two hours even though we got there right after they opened. The waiter was busting his tail but I guess it was the kitchen staff being slow. The Italian place Portofino was very good food and service. We also did the Hibachi which was pretty good. Our chef Baker (prob spelled different) was funny and really good. The only stupid thing was I asked for Sake you know cause it's a Hibachi and the waiter brought over 3 ridiculously over-priced bottles of Sake (like over $100 USD). They didn't even have a house Sake. I buy it at home for $7.50 a bottle and it's pretty good. So ended up with just white wine. Room: This is an older hotel and I knew that going in. We got the preferred king ocean front with a balcony. The AC worked great and the bed was decent. This is room that can adjoin with the room next door and you can literally hear every single thing going on next door. Feel bad for our first night neighbors as they probably heard me barfing for 3 hours the first night. We also had to call maintenance twice to fix the toilet as it decided to just stop filling up with water. Good thing it didn't do that the first night. Staff: All very friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived to leaving on the last day. The preferred towel guy Gus was awesome and had a nice system going. The beach: The beach is pretty big especially for Cancun. We've stayed at Secrets in Cancun (should have again) and that beach is tiny. You can walk all the way out to the roped off part and it's only waste deep. Not the best place to cool off. The preferred pool was really cold. I guess it's shaded most of the time. I liked it but it was too cold for my wife most of the time. I would give 4 stars if I hadn't gotten food poisoning.
