Mixed experience - if you like playing drink roulette
Stayed here for a week's family holiday- overall it's fine but not quite as luxurious as made out, and service really inconsistent Pro's: - location is pretty - backing onto rainforest, with views out towards ships waiting to go into canal - really lovely family pool area - huge space, and swim up bar although at times very noisy with "entertainment" - lots of cabanas - food quality mostly good - lunch buffet was great, and the Italian restaurant was standout dining. Breakfast choice very good - made an effort to entertain - aqua-aerobics, it was off season but they did try and had a great halloween dance show whilst we were there - bar and spirits choice good Cons: - service massively inconsistent - even if you have the same thing two days running the dishes could be completely different (and key elements missing) - a lot of staff were in training, but meant that sometimes you had to ask 3 or 4 times for things - especially drinks - 50% of the time you would get something complete differnet to what you ordered (extreme was a glass of rose wine which was delivered as a pina colada!). This seems minor inconvenience but after a week it's really annoying - rooms a little tired, fixtures/fittings were dusty and worn - rooms were not serviced consistently - on arrival had a room for 3 people with only 2 bath towels, no hand towels - sometimes the toiletries and mosquito wipes were replaced, sometimes not - had massive issues with room keys - locked out of room 4 days running and they had to keep replacing the batteries to door lock - quite a trek back to reception - menus/choices sometimes odd - one evening the grill became a chinese/asian place and they completely brought the wrong order to my wife, and then argued with her about it (which for all inclusive was nuts - why bother) - taxi service way overpriced - uber if you can, although the wifi went down and no phone signal for 24 hours one day so had no choice but to use (c. 10 x cost of uber) - beach really polluted water - looks nice until up close, but the gardens/pool makes up for it - weekends at the pool had lots of additional guests - overly loud music and not very relaxing, although during week was not too bad. The local guests were a bit rowdy at weekends. - preferred club lounge waste of space - not worth it, poor quality food and not much of it.
Good hotel overall
Overall we were very satisfied with this resort. • Close (40 mins) to the airport and the City --traffic depending. • Good clean rooms. All rooms face the sea though 3/4/5 is better no tree obstruction. • Fantastic sunrise/sunsets. • In rainy season it will rain heavily 1/2 times a day • Good top shelf drinks at all bars. • Good front desk staff ---very friendly. • No inclusive wristbands but you did have to check in for each meal. (six of one...). • It's on the edge of the rainforest- do the 2 hr jungle tour -sloths monkeys, tarantulas, local flora. • Segmented pool areas for different activities. Swim up bar was small but good. • They were blasting techno hispanic music at the pool but turned it down –it was bad. • Guests are older late 40-60's with some families with kids but not crazily so. • Real mix of guests US/UK/Panamanians/Italian/German/French • Activities were light: daily sheet has little explanation and we found things by chance eg the Latin Show … very good. • Karaoke was really going well and they stopped it and expected the people to wait until 11pm and go to the disco- didn't reflect the guest profile (IMHO). • We missed a rare turtle release because the communication was so poor. Very annoyed/disappointed about this. • Food: Lot of choice but limited choice for vegans/veggies: good salads. Asked them to add vegan hamburger and hot dog plus some more grilled veggies, bean based dishes and something other than butter for the bread. Soy milk and almond milk at breakfast but few other times. • Excursions expensive: Gamboa/Monkey Island was $140 pp....1/2 day Canal/Casco Antiguo tour was $80 pp. Seeing the Canal is a must but with hindsight we would get an Uber to the locks ($12) paid the $20 entrance fee pp and pay for a lock guide. Too rushed at the locks and in town- no time to look at the museum or go shopping. We went back by Uber for the IMAX ($15pp) The Gamboa trip was EXCELLENT…the canal motorboat ride to see monkeys was brilliant ….tip take a banana or two with you. • The hotel pitched us on a top end 40 year $50k time share like program - the inducement was $150 off our excursions. It was low pressure 90mins - after giving up a DNA sample :) . It had interesting options though like listing kids/friends on the program. They had ~7 options down as low as $5k for a trial but the numbers on free weeks/VIP weeks/discounts began to blur so we didn't bite. Hope this helps
Great hotel but service is a little lacking
We had a great time at this hotel. Our room was very nice, the pools were lovely, the food in all the restaurants was great, but Oceana was our favorite. The service needs some improvement. However, it was a great value overall. Some details: Rooms - the rooms were big, well appointed and very clean. Beach - High tide and low tide is a serious thing! The water was really low until about 12 PM, it was only knee deep! On the bright side, there were no waves between 12 PM - 4 PM. The water was extremely warm and clean, albeit there were a few rocks. (This was as of the end of November 2019.) Pools - the pools were big and warm. The swim-up bar was great, just wish it was connected to the infinity pool. Food - The over quality of the food was good. A few items were great and some were OK, but no complaints about the taste/quality. Service, however was a different story. Dinners at a restaurant would often take 2+ hours, because of how slow the food was brought out! Also it was often hard to order a drink when sitting down at the buffet for lunch, because the staff were not paying enough attention. There was always a lot of people around, but some did not really know what they should be doing. Service - It would take 10-15 of waiting to get a beach towel!!! The person who worked there was never around and always needed to be chased down. Restaurant staff was often very slow or non-existent (see above for details). I have to say that when around, the staff was very friendly, they need to be a lot more organized and better trained.
Great stay, staff were awesome, very knowledgeable. Preferred club was amazing treated like royalty. Perfect vacation to relax and enjoy life Food was good, We went into town and felt safe and had a blast
My husband and I stayed here for 7 days this November and thoroughly enjoyed this resort and we cannot understand why there are poor reviews. The staff here were all super nice and helpful and we didn't encounter any communication issues. Our favorite staff members were Carol at the preferred pool bar and Sanchez who was sometimes at pool bars and restaurants. Sanchez always made a point to say hi to us!! We had a preferred club junior suite ocean view room and it was perfect; spacious, clean, and pretty views from the balcanies. We saw plenty of wildlife just on the hotel grounds, we saw sloths, raccoons, and plenty of large lizards. We spent most of our time at the preferred pool and never had an issue finding any lounge chairs. The ocean was a bit rocky but if you watch for low tide you can find where the sandy areas are and swim there the next day. The food here overall was just ok, nothing standing out either way. We enjoyed the entertainment at night, they had belly dancers one night and Panamanian dancers another. We would go back to this resort and recommend it to others, don't let the poor reviews deter you.
