Amazing staff, food & facility
This was our first time to Costa Rica. We flew into Liberia which I recommend when staying at this hotel, it’s about 1.5 hr drive from Liberia vs. 4.5 from San Jose. The staff exceeded our expectations right from when we arrived. We were greeted with cool towels, warm smiles and refreshing fruit juice. The facility was beautiful, loved the lay out of the rooms and the jacuzzi tub on the balcony. Although our jacuzzi didn’t have hot water (it was still warm) i took advantage of a tub every single morning (and most evenings)! The food was fantastic. I truly was surprised by the high standards the wait staff and chefs held themselves too and were achieving every single meal. The pools were great, although the swim up bar was in the family pool, so you were occasionally greeted with a child at the bar stool next to you. There is also only 1 jacuzzi, which has a beautiful view of the ocean, but again is in the family section and was over ran with kids. My group and I did a day trip to Arenal Volcano which was great, minus the fact it was a 4+ hour drive each way. We were a bit deceived by the facts of the trip and were told it was a 3 hr drive, 5 hr excursion then 3 hr drive back. That alone was pushing it, but we booked it to get the true CR experience since this hotel location is in the “dry forest” and we wanted to see the “rain forest”. Although I enjoyed our excursion, our tour guide Alex was fantastic and our driver kept us safe, I would have been totally content spending that day at the resort. Oh also check the weather before booking, we went end of May which was the beginning of the rainy season, and yes it rained every single day. But the bugs were minimal and no one got sunburnt so it was still totally worth it!
This resort is a great resort for couples or for families. This is our first time for a resort that was not adult only, but the children were great here. The offered activities are great, the food is pretty good, the staff is amazing.
My husband and I went for our honeymoon and had a great time. One complaint I had was that the room didn’t have any hair conditioner or robes/slippers. We were able to call for robes and slippers but seemed cheap that theses were automatically in the room. If you have the AC on the then open the door the condensation settles on the floor and we almost fell multiple times. This is why slippers are imperative. We also weren’t able to get our sparkling wine that was supposed to come with a honeymoon even though we called 3 times. Eventually they brought up a bottle of red wine and we gave up. Otherwise we had a great time. Most of the food was great (some was so so like the hamburgers). Loved the 24 hour room service, el patio, portofino and rendezvous. We also enjoyed going to get lattes at the cafe and an afternoon snack. The resort is beautiful. The beach was very nice and the water was warm. Even though my husband and I aren’t usually pool people we loved spending time at the pools here. There were so many seats. We loved the adults only pool. We had a room on the back on building 5 and monkeys came to visit. That was one of the best parts of the trip. The other best part was taking a private tour with Ulf (find on Facebook) where we went to Rio Celeste, a frog/sloth farm, and hot springs. He taught us so much about Costa Rica.
My husband and I arrived after a long flight from the UK. Our check in was quick and we were soon in our room 5612, a banner was placed across our door wishing us a happy wedding anniversary and fruit and wine was waiting inside. The room is spacious and clean and the view over the pools and the forests was beautiful. We have eaten at all the restaurants and the food is great with plenty of choices. A couple of times we have not been able to eat in the Japanese restaurant as they have had a waiting time of about an hour so we just went else where. The staff here are happy, helpful and work incredibly hard. Marcella is just lovely at the world cafe,, Sebastian was great and pointed out several animals to us and Jose bringing us drinks near the manatees bar was fab. It has rained for the most of our holiday but we have still had a fantastic time and they tried there best to keep people entertained with table tennis, connect 4 and other games. The gift shop at this hotel is expensive so bring plenty of sun cream and the spa is also very expensive, we didn't use the spa purley due to the cost. I do think the resort should look at the costs of the treatments as these are the most costly I have come across. We have 2 days left here and I'm gutted we couldn't stay longer, we love this place , it is stunning and the wildlife here is amazing from hummingbirds, iguanas, racoons and monkeys to butterfly, small snakes and lizards. Well done dreams and to all your amazing friendly staff.
Exception Stay at Dreams Las Mareas Cost Rica!
While vacationing in Costa Rica during the "Green" season (that's the rain season) can be risky - we hit the jackpot at Dreams Las Mareas in Costa Rica. This was an exceptional resort about 1 hour and 15 minutes northwest of Liberia on the Pacific side of the country near the border with Nicaragua. We took our three adult children on a week long vacation and loved every minute of it. It's definitely work paying for the transfer from the airport. We literally were met coming out of customs in Costa Rica and whisked away to a van (with wifi!) that took us directly to the resort. Check in was smooth and easy - complete with a flute of fresh orange juice and cold towels upon arrival. The Front Desk took care of checking us in quickly and we were off to the beachside restaurant and bar. The pools are amazing including an upper pool and lower pool with an adults only pool and the ocean view pool - out favorite. We spent most of our days at the ocean side pool with wonderful views of the beach and easy access to paddle boarding, kayaking and fun in the waves of the Pacific ocean. The pool and bar staff were AMAZING! If you go - find Sergio - he took care of us every day with exceptional customer service. He helped us rent a covered cabana and two chairs with an umbrella every day! These are a MUST to enjoy your time at the pool. They had the best views and ensured we did not have to look for seating every day. He was professional and provide fantastic service. The rest of the pool bar staff was also amazing - they were attentive but never intrusive! We made sure to try every restaurant including Mexican, Italian, the World Café, Sushi, the Hibachi and the Coco Café. Sushi was hands down our favorite! All the restaurants had good food with lots of choices. The service can be a bit slow - but that just gave us time to recap our day. It's a bit slower than most American expect - but not bad overall. The rooms were clean and the oceanview balconies provided great views of the cove. Every balcony has an outdoor tub as well. We really enjoyed ordering room service and having coffee and breakfast on the balcony every morning before heading to the pool. It did rain almost every day during May - but it was typically for short periods and we still had plenty of time to enjoy the pool and activities. Definitely work with Amstar to book excursions. We really enjoyed our ATV tour with Popeye. He is amazing! Great energy and fun!
