Relaxing trip to Costa Rica
My husband's work sent us to Costa Rica on a rewards trip, so we were at Dreams with about 350 people, which made the trip very easy! The hotel is about an hour and a half from the Liberia airport, with the last half hour on a very windy and bumpy road, make sure to bring Dramamine of you get motion sickness! We had a bus to bring us to the hotel, not sure what transportation is like of you go on your own! The hotel is very isolated, so we planned two day trips to offset our four pool days. There are several tour companies with representatives on site to help you book tours. We did a day trip to Nicaragua with TAM Costs Rica, which was amazing, as well as an eco tour with ziplining, horseback riding and a hot springs. We loved the food, especially the Seaside Grill steakhouse and the Japanese restaurant. For the specialty dinner places, get there by 6:30 to avoid a long wait! The buffet was awesome for lunch and dinner, so much fresh fruit and amazing options. Loved the friendly staff at the restaurants and pools. The downsides were how crowded the pool area got. People would reserve pool chairs at 6 am and then not go down until 11. Most of the time we reserved chairs around 8 am and then had breakfast before settling in the pool area into around noon. Overall we enjoyed our trip, especially the gelato at the coffee shop!
A Beautiful Resort
We were with a group of 10 people. Checked in January 3rd. There were a few rooms with incorrect number of beds, kings that should have been two doubles. Took two days to resolve that issue. Resort is beautiful. Food was average. Nighttime Entertainment definitely needs work. Lots of wildlife roaming around. We had Mountain View rooms and it was cool to watch the monkeys climb around. Rooms were well maintained. Despite leaving $5 tips daily for housekeeping, we were not left enough washcloths or hand towels a few days, so I just stopped tipping the last two days. Beds were comfortable, and we did not hear any outside noise in our rooms. Bathroom situation was not too bad. The curtain is not see through, and we took turns sitting on the balcony while the other one used toilet/shower. Got a great massage on the beach for $55. Buffett food was basically the same thing day after day, with two or three items changed up. By day 7 everyone in our group was longing for something different. But overall it was a very enjoyable stay, and we would recommend Dreams Resort.
If you have any problems it takes the staff hours to address them. Very disappointed in lack of speed. Resort is pretty and isolated but if you want the remoteness it is a good place to stay. Nice for families as there is activities for children and also private places for adults only.
Wonderful family resort
We had a wonderful time at this resort. The employees were friendly and helpful. The food was very good. We had access to the Preferred Club which was very nice and the staff there was excellent. We enjoyed hiking, biking and fishing. We enjoyed seeing all of the animals at the resort, especially the monkeys. The snorkeling wasn't great. The beach is public, so there are folks selling jewelry, excursions, etc. which was bothersome at times. Bring your bug spray to ward off the no-see-ums. Overall, we had a great time and would go back to this resort.
Resort, Wonderful. UVC, Not Recommended
The Resort is wonderful. Each and every staff member from Maintenance to Ana at Baracuda Bar went over-and-above. My sister is a Member of the UVC for approx 5 years. This was our 2nd Trip all together. We booked through UVC and during this process in June 2019 we were asked about special requestst etc... we put in a few..none were provided once we got on-site. [For example, recent hip replacement so mid-point room location was needed but we couldn't have been placed farther away...at check-in we were basically told 'too bad, we're full'] Anyway, this trip we had planned to buy into our own Membership. Wanted to hear presentation, negotiate a Level, Price, same as everyone does; then pay for bulk cost of it rather than getting into a lengthy payment schedule and all that. We didn't fit into the mold of the 'requirements necessary', were told one thing, turned out to be another. The more we inquired during appointment, the worse we were treated and spoken to. [Again, we made it clear we were there to buy]. Maybe it's just this Team at this location, I don't know. The agressiveness and how we were spoken to wasn't good representation and it sort of overshadowed the rest of our time there. We were disappointed to say the least. While Dreams Las Mareas is beautiful complex and location, we cannot under any circumstances recommend the UVC. Book through a good Travel Agent.
