    Lovely Hotel, perfect location.

Was concerned slightly reading previous reviews. Been to Playa Blanca before a few times but first time at Dreams. Overall, all we had a brilliant time. We would go back no issues. Positives - Great location - perfectly situated right on beach and close to town one end and the harbour at the other. Lovely beach outside. Grounds well looked after. Nice rooms. We had a pool and sea view. Lots of pools so no one pool area feels packed. Mostly heated which we needed. Beds comfy. Staff great on the whole. Went All INC and drinks fine and we never went hungry at the buffet restaurant. Few niggly negatives. Its not really a 5 star hotel. It just doesn't 'feel' like one. Food was pretty average at best. Wasn't terrible but just very average and we are in no way fussy eaters. Meats were poor (veal or pork chops on a few nights we were there as a choice) and generally it was the mains that let it down. Breakfast was excellent, lots of salads, fruit, and things to have as starters. Desserts were amazing. Just a poor selection of things to eat during evening mains. Small gaming room/zone for older kids but I feel needs to be bigger or more for the 8-16 year olds. One playstation and an old Mario kart game wasnt enough. You also had to pay to use these. The VR thing went down a treat with kids but also had to pay for which was fine. Needed more of those type of things though I thought. The sports bar was always empty. They should make the older kids zone bigger and get rid the sports bar. Some confusion also around who was preferred club and who wasn't. We didn't book Preferred Club but were given a Preferred Club room and access to the preferred pool ,but couldn't get access to the preferred al a carte restaurants without paying so overall we were confused about what we could and couldn't do. Other guests had same feelings. Few louts round the pool getting wasted a few of the days, shouting and swearing but thats not the hotels fault. Guess you will get that on any All Inc holidays when drinks flowing really. Just didn't expect it here at a supposedly 5 star hotel in playa blanca. Shame as there were loads of young kids around. Again, overall we had a great time, have no real complaints and would go back, but I think it does need some small improvements to be a 5 star hotel.

Great staff and building but average experience overall

We stayed in 2 rooms as a family of 5 with one registered disabled guest. They were provided with a room with a walk-in shower but the lifts are very small and only just fitted her walker and the one nearest the buffet restaurant broke down almost daily. One the second night, they also slipped on the matt between beds and hit their back which ruined their holiday. So while the room was technically 'accessible' there should be a health and safety check done to remove potential hazards. Now for the good - the staff are excellent, the hotel is beautiful and the location is perfect - right between the marina and bars/restaurants in Playa Blanca. However, the 'no-booking sunbeds' rule isn't enforced and this meant by following the rules we had no sunbeds for the first three days. On the fourth day we did what everyone else did and reserved two beds, only for one of the 'preferred guests' to remove them and take the beds because 'it was their right as preferred guests' which I didn't buy for a second. This brings me on to the whole 'preferred guests' situation which is a form of hotel apartheid. We were told on checking in as 'unlimited luxury' guests that we could use any restaurant at any time without booking. But this isn't true. On the third day we decided to grab lunch at the barefoot grill with two hungry children at around half past one. But no, unless you're a preferred guest, you can't go into this particular restaurant until 3pm (despite it being pretty much empty). So not much use for lunch if you have kids. We did get to try it a couple of times by getting the kids a snack but on the second visit, we waited for an hour to get served so it was more like 4pm. Also, there are areas of the hotel out of bounds to 'non preferred' guests so unless you're willing to pay around £50 per person per night (half for kids) you'll be treated like a second class holidaymaker. It annoyed me so much that I wouldn't stay at another hotel with this system ever again. The food at the hotel was average at best. Many times, my wife couldn't find something she liked at the buffet and the kids likewise. As another reviewer has noted there are birds flying in and nibbling on the food which didn't seem very hygienic. Some food was also undercooked and chicken legs from a paella were undercooked (bloody in the middle) which was clearly an issue. On our last day, we were leaving at 9.15am so went for an early breakfast, but despite it opening at 7.30am, there were items missing until we left just after 8am and the fried egg/omelette maker didn't arrive at their station until after 8 (after being told by their manager there were people waiting). Often items ran out and weren't replaced in good time which gave a poor reflection of the experience. Activities were ok but nothing special. Water polo was fun but the staff seemed disinterested (on their phones the whole time and not bothering to keep score on one day). Other events were poorly attended and there didn't seem to be a lot of effort made getting people to join in. The music played by the main pool during the day was questionable too. Some tracks were not family friendly and we heard songs with the f-word played at full volume in front of kids so a check needs to be made on the choice of music. Evening entertainment was ok but the venue totally wrong. Acts perform either on or at the bottom of the main staircase. So if it's a visual act like acrobats, unless you're sat in the middle at the front, you won't see anything. Wasn't really suitable for kids either - ours found it boring and kept asking to go back to the room. Overall, we found the hotel staff helping guests, reception and restaurant to be excellent, the hotel beautiful and kept clean and in a fantastic location. However, it was let down by the food, entertainment, 'preferred club' and not enforcing policies. We wouldn't visit again. As an extra note for TUI guests - there is NO TUI rep at the hotel so apart from them trying to sell you trips via the app and it also telling you when your pick-up is, you're pretty much on your own for the entire trip which we found really disappointing (not even an invite to a welcome meeting at another hotel). We would have booked excursions if we'd been able to talk to someone about them and ended up not doing as a result. Jet2 do have a rep who was on site regularly.

    Great Service

Excellent service from the bar and waiting staff. Big thanks in particular to Ahmed for looking after us. Hotel was nice, food good, rooms lovely and pool was nice and warm. Daytime Entertainment with Bence was good with Active team. Some good laughs. Evening entertainment was not our type of thing but maybe more suited to the elderly clientele. Overall great holiday.

Great value but dont expect perfection

First thing to say is this hotel was overall fine and it’s important to state that it isn’t a high end resort and is priced to reflect that. The hotel offers excellent value for money and although it isn’t perfect by any means the price is an important thing to consider. We witnessed several guests complaining about a few areas of the hotel but in the main this was a bit unfair. We wouldn’t recommend the privileged upgrade as then it pushes this hotel into a different price bracket which it doesn’t belong in. If you’re looking to pay more the newly opened hotel next door is a better option. Location is great as near the marina and a short walk to the town. Overall we enjoyed the holiday as a cheap week away but would advise people to manage expectations as this isn’t the Burj Al Arab :)

It should be renamed 'The Avery'

I'll start with the positives- well maintained, room clean and communal areas clean. Sadly, this wasn't the case for the buffet restaurants. On our first meal in the World Cafe we noticed birds (yes birds!) eating from various plates of food. To say the least we were absolutely horrified and reported it to the waiters and reception staff immediately. Unfortunately both the restaurant staff and reception staff were not at all bothered by this- their response was 'its impossible to keep them out.' We then asked if the food could be covered to help with the issue, again we were told this isn't possible and guests wouldn't put lids back on. The next morning we complained to the Jet2 rep who assured us our complaint was being taken seriously and she would speak with hotel guest services. We received a call from her a few minutes later to say the hotel were aware of our complaint and were getting a professional out to deal with the issue later that day. It saddens me to say after 10 days on the resort we saw little to no improvement. We complained further to hotel guest services and Clara upgraded us to the different buffet and assured us that it was bird free. Once again, this was not the case. Birds flying in and out eating from food again. Yogurts displayed were almost 2 weeks out of date and left out for days before they were removed. On one occasion a chef used a utensil he used on raw chicken to serve my cooked meat. Another occasion I asked for my burger to well done and I'm 26 weeks pregnant I was told this was not possible so I didn't take the burger he was offering. On the second to last evening I became very unwell with sickness and diarrhea. We went back to Jet2 rep the following morning and informed her. She was sympathetic towards us and our situation. As I mentioned I'm pregnant so being in a restaurant with vermin and becoming unwell in a different country is quite frankly very scary. To say the least we are completely devastated with our experience here. We will be contacting Jet2 upon our return to see what they have to say.
