Mar 23, 2025Had a good week at Dreams Karibana
Overall we had a very nice 7 night stay at Dreams Karibana. The staff are friendly and very hardworking especially the Entertainment team and the waiters at the pool. The immigration lineup at the airport was one of the slowest we’ve experienced in the world (3 planes arrived within 2 hours and only 2 immigration officers working), we got out in 2 hours but I’ve read it can be as bad as 4 hours, so be prepared. We took a $20 usd taxi to the hotel as the Air Transat liaison told us the prearranged transportation had to wait for 8 more guests and we were already beyond exhausted. We had a ‘preferred club’ tropical view king room booked and ended up on the 5th floor with a view of the golf course and pools, so we were very pleased with that. Room was very spacious, bathroom was also very nice although a bit old - tub had some stains and underside of sinks had some mold visible. Hallway carpet was badly stained and there were gaps in the seams. There is also an overpowering scent being blasted in the hallway and the lobby, we assume to counter the mildew smell that many guests in the past have complained about. Foodwise - went to the buffet for breakfast and lunch which was fine except for bbq day. There was a very long slow lineup for tough chewy beef and small pieces of chicken. The other items in the buffet were consistently good otherwise, especially the quality of the fresh fruit. Sometimes it was hard to get a free table so we tended to eat early to avoid the rush. Oceana restaurant is a short walk away and a golf cart ride back, food there is worth the trip, especially the fish dishes. Portofino was our favourite but requires booking ahead. Overall, the food is high sodium with quite a lot of fried items and carbs. Drinks were good. At the adults only preferred club pool area, the service was very good. Otherwise, it was a while before we got our drinks as the hardworking waitstaff have a lot of ground to cover. The ‘preferred club’ is supposedly for adults only but on 2 different days there were teens in the pool. Also there is no way to tell if adult guests were ‘preferred’ or not as they don’t use wristbands just plastic cards, so anyone could use the adult pool as long as they looked old enough. The preferred lounge was meh but quiet, food there was minimal. I don’t think preferred club was worth it, to be honest. There’s a free bus to the walled city at 3 pm, returning at 7 pm. We did a free (tips only) walking tour with Beyond Colombia, that fit that schedule perfectly.

Bad servive from housekeeping
I have to pay 20$ towel because consierge Danilo insisted on it. He told that my red hair color is ruined towel. He claimed that it did not come off in to wash. I have neverexperienced anything like this anywhere. Really outrageous! I have to bought my towel frim the shop because I never got it from the hotel.

We really loved the resort and the staff is super friendly. Silent parties in the lobby before going up for the night was our fav along with the lobby bar being open until 1 am. There is also 2 checkpoints coming in to the hotel for those who don’t feel so safe traveling to Columbia.

Ooh La La Go To The Spa
Where do I begin? My experience with the spa was phenomenal. I was in Cartagena to celebrate my sister's birthday. I contacted the resort for spa services a few weeks before our arrival. Thankfully, I was connected with Rosa Carrasquilla! That is when the Ooh La La service begin. Rosa is the Spa Supervisor and from the first email, I knew I was in the right hands. She is an absolute angel. I shared with Rosa the purpose of the vacation. Rosa asked questions about my sister's likes and the kind of person she is. She really cared and wanted to make her spa visit amazing. Rosa and ALL the ladies in the spa exceeded my expectations. They had personalized cards printed. All of my sister's guests wrote birthday messages. The team was very strategic with how they surprised her. When my sister arrived, she received one card when she signed in, one card in the locker room area, one card in the massage room, one card before she entered the sauna and then the grand finale; balloons, the remaining cards, and a toast in the spa with all of my sister's guests and the team. Let me not forget they had dessert, her favorite song playing, lights etc. I could go on and on about what they did. I will NEVER forget Rosa and team. The way they made us feel is beyond words. My heart is happy! Yes, I am still feeling the joy. It ended up feeling like we all had a birthday - that is how beautiful they made the celebration. I have pics but can only share a few for privacy purposes (we were in the spa so imagine luxurious robes and a lot of smiling faces). All I can say is OOH LA LA GO TO THE SPA!!!!

Cartagena is SAFE, friendly and BEAUTIFUL!
The resort is beautiful. Our room was spacious and very clean. What makes this resort excellent is the staff! The staff is very attentive and accommodating to all your wants and needs! Karen at check in explained everything very well and answered all our questions. Jesus, at the Preferred Club pool, never let our cups go dry. Daniela, at Oceana shared with us the secret menu items. Victor, at the front bar was always welcoming. Javier, at the concierge desk helped us set up all our taxi rides. Andres at World Cafe breakfast always made sure we had everything we needed. Our only suggestion would be to add hand railings at the pools, the steps are very slippery. We will definitely return to Dreams Karibana
