Beautiful resort and amazing snorkeling!
My stay at Divi Phoenix Resort was perfect. The property was beautiful, my room was spacious and the staff was friendly and made me feel at home. Any issues I had were resolved promptly. My husband couldn’t make it at the last minute so I was a little nervous at first, but felt very safe here. It’s located in a perfect spot near restaurants and shopping. The best part was the private beach. There were plenty of cabanas and there were a couple of areas right by the beach to snorkel where I saw the BIGGEST fish! I went other places to snorkel, but this was one of the best! Ask the locals where to go and they will show you. Thank you for a wonderful vacation.
You Get What You Pay For
I stayed at this hotel a week ago with my family and needless to say I wasn't impressed. I booked this hotel thru Expedia after reading some good reviews about it on TripAdvisor. Upon arrival, our check-in was fairly quick with the exception of the room. We had booked a standard room and requested a room on a higher floor, however were given rooms on the first floor. When asked for a room on a higher floor we were told they were either all booked or "timeshare". We had no idea this hotel was a timeshare resort. Had we known we wouldn't have booked it. So after being told numerous times no other rooms were available (we had 3 booked) we accepted the rooms that were given to us and headed to them. We had 3 villas booked, all on the first floor right next to the pool. The rooms were good size with full size kitchen, living, bath and bed...however had an awful musky/humid smell. I rather would have had a smaller room on a higher floor then a "villa". The patio was blocked by a large cylindrical post that blocked your view of pool and ocean. On top of that, the outdoor furniture was incredibly dirty (it needed a good power washing) and there were ants everywhere! Really gross and not at all inviting to sit outside on. What disappointed me most about the room situation is that after the first day we noticed how empty the resort was...beaches, pools, restaurants....empty for the most part....If their were maybe a 100 people total i saw is being generous. MY POINT IS, when we requested a room with a higher floor and you feed us the line that the resort if packed is complete BS. When i travel, i am all about the balcony with a view. I was disappointed that with the resort/vacation we didn't have that. And we could have. I felt we were deceived and I dont like that. As for the restaurants, we would have a casual lunch at PureBeach almost everyday. Their nachos and salads a delish for an easy, close by lunch if youre at the beach. The service is incredibly slow so be forwarned. You will also get 3-4 different servers during your meal and on the check they include a service charge/tip that they split between the servers. However there was a time we went there for lunch and were told that their drink specials of the day were mojitos for $4 USD. We thought ok, great. The waitress proceeded to tell us what flavors they had and so each of us ordered a different flavored mojito. Upon receiving the bill, we noticed we were charged $8 USD per drink. We thought they had mad a mistake and mentioned it to our waitress but she said it was right. The $4 mojitos were only for the plain lime flavor and the different fruity ones were $8. All which they didnt mention to tell us...once again...BEING DECEPTIVE. As for PureOcean, went for breakfast buffet and completely over priced at $17/per person + tax + gratuity...for sub par fruit and stale pastries. This place is completely overpriced and was nearly empty everytime we walked passed. I would pass on this place and go for breakfast downtown (about a mile walk). I will give the hotel props for the timely maintenance responses and housekeeping. We had a broken safe and maintenance was there within minutes to fix it. The employees were quiet nice....however, we did encounter a rude bartender (at pool bar) and rude waitress (PureBeach) but we let it slide, maybe they were having a bad day. My favorite part about this hotel/trip was the beach. It is a more secluded, quiet part of Palm Beach. I would definitely recommend snagging a palapa early (7am) and putting out your towel (also recommend you get towel clips as it gets very windy). Most of the first row gets snagged pretty quickly. But since there werent many at the resort when we were there, there were always palapas available. Pool was ok, we never laid out by the pool, we enjoyed the beach much better. However I will say, I was disappointed that there weren't any bartenders/runners going to the beach area to take drink/food orders as they have in most hotels. Something to look into Divi. Overall, the hotel was ok....i guess you get what you pay for. It is one of the more cost savvy options. I feel this hotel is more geared for older couples or families with younger kids. I personaly wouldnt stay here again, but if your looking to go to Aruba and not spend an arm and a leg on a hotel, then this is your place.
This was our ninth time visiting this resort. We love it. We were there the last week of May/first week of June. We've stayed in the tower and also in the villas and enjoyed our stay in both buildings. The staff are all very helpful. Love the swim up bar and happy hour. Also, the activity coordinators are great. The resort is close to restaurants and casinos. We've never had any problems with security. Very safe environment. Can't wait to go back.
The resort was great! Everyone was very friendly, room was nice and clean, good food onsite, beach and pool was nice. I’d recommend renting a car, the island is safe and it’s a great way to sight see on your own. Recommend Baby Beach, National Park, Arashi Beach and Eagle Beach. Favorite restaurants in the area were Madame Jeanette’s (loves!) and Wacky Wahoos. Favorite bars were Moomba, Sopranos, and South Beach. We loved Aruba... can’t wait to go back!
DIVI PHOENIX'S RESIDENT PELICANS WILL WARM YOUR HEART AND MAKE YOU WANT TO STAY!!!
Stayed at Divi Phoenix the first week of June 2019, from the 1st through the 8th. Highly recommend staying here should one prefer to stay away from the noise and the crowds at the bigger resorts on the Palm Beach area. The beach by the hotel is great -though in some sections seaweed is becoming a problem. There's a lovely pier off the hotel where one can enjoy Aruba's spectacular sunsets....and It's rarely crowded. What's more, I observed up to 4 PELICANS that call this pier home, becoming one of the highlights of my stay at Divi Phoenix. It was quite enjoyable to be swimming near them, getting a first row view of their amazing fish diving skills. It's definitively an experience not to be forgotten! That, and enjoying the sunsets from either your room balcony or the pier! itself!!! That said, I do have a few comments to make about the Divi Phoenix experience: 1) Check in felt rushed. We arrived about 3 hours before check in time (4 PM) and in spite of the room not being ready, they charged my credit card right away. There was not a secure room where to place one's luggage with valuables (luggage from arriving guests were all left in different sections of the lobby area until check in time (compare that to Divi Resort in Saint Maartin where they do have a well organized and secure dedicated space to store luggage if your room is not ready!) 2) We were not given beach towel cards upon check in and had to return to the front desk to request them. No explanations were given upon check in. 3) BINGO hour (usually from 2 to 3 PM) is a huge nuisance if you are at the beach during that time and just want to relax. The audio is VERY LOUD and It's just VERY annoying not to be able to enjoy a peaceful moment at the beach due to the Bingo game!!! Perhaps management should consider moving the bingo game to a location away from the beach....or at the very least, lowering the microphone volume! 4) If breakfast is included with your package, make sure you let the wait staff know everytime you have breakfast (it's a bit chaotic in that no one checks for your room number when you first walk in to verify that you paid for the so called "breakfast plan". Upon checking out on our last day, I was surprised to see that I had been billed for breakfast in spite of it been part of our package. The charges were taken care of...just a minor annoyance! Aside from that, Divi Phoenix is a place I would recommend: less crowded than other resorts, plenty of palapas available, across the street from the beautiful Butterfly Farm, convenient for walking to all the other hotels in the highrise area -even to nearby Eagle Beach (super sandy, clear waters with almost no seaweed in sight!!!) which is either a 25 minute walk along the beach and a section of the main road or may be a 5 or 10 minute cab ride and is less crowded than the other beaches! Lastly....the resident Pelicans and the sunsets off the pier or from your room balcony will make the Divi Phoenix choice one you won't regret.... On the other hand, if you are looking for glitz, glamour & DJ manned pool areas, stay elsewhere!
