Return to the Crystal Cove
Are sequels better than the original? In this case after 3 years (see my previous review Taste of Caribbean Dream August 2016), yes! Coming back to celebrate a significant anniversary in UK half-term week, there is still the strong friendliness and desire to please among the staff team. If we wanted something sorted (stiff wardrobe doors, mosquitoes, coconut ice lolly) it would be done quickly. Since our last visit, CC have added room fridges stocked with drinks, a new tapas/wine bar, and more activities for guests (e.g. Aquacise, Karaoke, road tennis etc), as well as a wider choice of wines available as part of all-inclusive deal. Good choice of food of a high standard, and service most of the time was punctual. Depending on your mood (and the weather), there is normally a choice of a la carte or buffet between the two restaurants, Reflections (indoor, slightly more formal) or Drifters (down by the sea front), from which you need to choose beforehand. Food is not a problem; you could spend all day eating somewhere on the resort between dusk and 10 pm. So, we were grateful for all the activities to burn off the calories! The weather was a tale of 2 halves; first half of the holiday was lovely and sunny, last few days we had some rougher seas and torrential rain. This does impact on what can be provided on the inclusive water- sports and the water taxi between hotels, but obviously the weather is outside control of the hotel- if you want to do a water sport, then make hay while the sun shines. For evening entertainment, there is normally a different band each night, covering Caribbean classics, Marley of course, and stuff from 60s to current. The waitresses sometimes sing along, and there is dancing, but someone’s got to be brave enough to start it! As part of our celebrations, we had a surprise cake, a message written in pebbles on the pool, card from general manager, informal congratulations from the staff, all which added to our enjoyment. We met several returners, couples or families (some had been to this resort more than 6 times), which is testimony to the fact the hotel is great, you know what to expect, and this is provided generously. It’s a relatively small hotel, pitched in lovely grounds, which are well-tended, which lends to the friendly feel. A total escape from reality. To sum up Elegance with a friendly Bajan vibe. Once we have enough money & time, we will look to return again!
Very poor resort!
Extremely disappointing resort for one that is billed as a boutique 4-5 star. Rooms basic, food on the whole v poor with no entertainment during the day or evening. Service at times was an utter joke with several staff having a very poor attitude. Head chef was v helpful with my son’s gluten free requirements but aside from that was not worth even close to the money paid. The main restaurants served food that had clearly come out of large buffet trays out back ..not remotely close to al la carte. Beach ok at best with some good snorkelling but v small swimming area and not a good beach by Barbados standards. Also kick you out of all pools at about 6pm!! Don’t waste your money. Really regretted my choice of hotel. Complained several times whilst there but no response At any stage from manageress... simply not bothered. Would say it was 3.5 stars at best!! Stayed at Hilton Barbados for the weekend later in summer and was far better in every regard.
We went as a family of 3 & had such a lovely time. We loved the variety of food & the options of buffet or al a carte, our vegetarian daughter was well catered for. The wine was very good, I wasn't expecting that! Cocktails were also very moreish, & we also enjoyed the coffees from the vista bar. We spent the days on the beach, loved the canopy's on the sun beds, were looked after by having soft drinks/pina coladas/fruit kebabs/cookies/lollies brought round to us - you never knew what was going to appear! The staff are very friendly & very accommodating, nothing is too much trouble, any little niggles are soon sorted (our air con broke one evening & it was fixed within 30 minutes) We did the Swimming with Turtles trip with the hotel which was very good, & also the doughnut rides. Wish I could remember all of the staff I wanted to mention, but one in particular was Michael who sent my stroppy teenage daughter back to the room to change as she was wearing ripped jeans to dinner!! Made our night as we'd asked her not to wear them in the first place - she behaved herself every night after that!! Michael also made sure we had our 'favourite' table each time we used Reflections. We will definitely return.
Fabulous hotel, exceptional staff.
We’ve been coming here now for the past 4 years and it just keeps getting better and better. We love coming back to Crystal Cove the resort is perfect for us. The staff always remember us and that’s part of it’s magical charm. The beach is just beautiful, the drinks flow and I have to give a huge shout out to Crystal who is a star, nothing is too much trouble for her she’s just brilliant. Also Kath in Reflections who always goes the extra mile, and lovely to see Kevin again in the Cave Bar he’s always smiling. Will see you all again next October, keep up the great work and merry Xmas to you all. Xx
One day visit
We visited as part of our package at Turtle Beach and it was lovely. The buffet wasn’t great I wish we had dined in the a la carte as it looked amazing. The rain poured down when we were here so we made good use of the cave bar and the pina coladas and milk shakes were amazing. Lovely place nice staff and great views.
