Re-visited hotel built in 1975
I was thrilled to find his hotel I visited decades ago. We enjoyed looking at the old Outrigger Canoe (probably 75 ft. or so) and Artifacts--carvings and photos from the old days. I had seen it around 1977 when it was new. The receptionist was very helpful & extended a lunch invitation to us, which we did not take advantage of. It's still a very beautiful hotel.
Lobby is nice and has some nice history pictures and artifacts around the hotel, but the carpet are in the west side is in need of replacement. Stains all over it and has lots of bunched up areas where you can trip over it. Location is good and staff over all is friendly, rooms are nice but furniture is outdated and needs replaced, dents scratches and pieces missing. Bathroom area is ok, but toilet makes way to much noise when flushing. Honu's on the Beach Restaurant is a joke, over 25.00 per person for Breakfast buffet and not very good at all and over 50.00 for seafood/primerib dinner, well if you call sushi, raw shrimp, over cooked crab legs seafood, then ok and prime rib that looked over cooked big NO NO. go out of hotel to nearby restaurants cheaper and better food. Luau: over all nice but they made us wait 15 mins outside standing in hot sun for over 20 mins after checking in. Also they charge you 10:00 per lei if you want one, and they take a picture of you and your guest, but if you want it they charge you $20.00 for it. The rice was dried out, cake was dried out, other stuff I had was good and moist. Once the Hula Dancers came on it was a real great performance all the way through. Prior to that the band was not so great, hardly could hear the lead guitar man and the lady ukalale singer was so so, the base player looked like he was bored to deaf all through the whole luau. Parking is a joke to 32.00 per night if they park for you. Go find another place and save your money.
A Fantastic Getaway
This hotel is centrally located in the Kona-Kailua area. Wonderful service from the staff, great restaurants, comfortable rooms, beautiful views, and a great beach. I will definitely be going back. Make sure you try the coconut syrup on waffles.
A relaxing stay
Perfect location, and beautiful hotel. Easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. Pool was lovely, and has a small lagoon if you prefer ocean swimming. Coffee shop and ABC store right in the hotel. Staff was always pleasant and friendly. Would happily stay there again!
Beautiful property, amazing service
Accommodations are beautiful, rooms are comfortable and spotless, staff is friendly and helpful, the location is amazing! The best place on the Big Island! Billfish restaurant by the pool for lunch, Honu's for dinner, and an ABC store for everything I forgot to pack. Love this place!
