Room not up to par
We had to stay one night extra and this was the closest available hotel to the Kona Airport. This hotel was very pretty on the outside and the lobby. The staff Was awesome. But the room was not what we expected: the carpet was dirty/soiled, the lamp shades were damaged and most importantly, there was a strong odor of water damaged and or mildew. It was so late, and we were so tired that we did not complain. It was for one night. I did let the hotel know when we left. Hopefully that is not their usual room quality.
Very pleasantly surprised by this Hawaiian resort.
Only one night but would have enjoyed a few more days. Many authentic Hawaiian memorabilia and explanations. The lagoon beach is small but delightful. Most big Island beaches are not easily swimmable. Lava rocks and not much sand make it difficult. It is the youngest of the islands and is still forming. Wonderful staff! Cute shopping village just behind the resort and several restaurants. Good family stop for a few days.
Good food. Good venue. Nice atmosphere Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely Hotel. Great ocean views. Can unreservedly and heartily recommend this hotel to everyone. Will stay there on my next trip to Hawaii.
Probably won’t return
Room was decent. However, communication between employees is terrible. Asked for a fan, never received it. Took 6 hours and multiple calls for a maintenance problem. However, they did comp us well for the maintenance issue. Hopefully with the new owners, processes will improve.
We chose this hotel because it said “free snorkel gear with daily amenity fee.” Not true. You get the first hour free and then have to pay for gear on top of the amenities fee. The daily amenities fee is bogus. They provide a small beach towel but if not returned, $22 charge.. There is next to no free parking around the hotel, and daily parking is $30 with tax. There aren’t microwaves in the hotel rooms because this hotel room is so ritzy (not really) that you just buy their restaurant food which is $25 minimum a plate. no free breakfast, $25 a plate for the breakfast buffet. Usually courtyard Marriotts’ cater to the budget friendly families. This is not one of those. The beach is very small and very crowded. They have canoes coming in and out of the little bay area throughout the day so it makes it very difficult to snorkel there. I do not recommend this hotel. The interior design is outdated and worn. The bed I slept on was saggy where you lay. The staff was friendly. We spent most of our time away from the hotel.
