Not Great, well actually terrible
We eagerly anticipated our first ever visit to Hawaii and as a long time loyal Marriot customer I confidently booked us into the Waikiki Courtyard, thinking it would be similar to the dozens of other Courtyards I have experienced around the globe as far away as Moscow and Taiwan. Disappointment number one came when upon arrival we were “upgraded” (their word not mine) to a room without the King bed I had booked. I was told no kings were available but my “upgrade” would give us a larger room. After I agreed (key word here is “after”) I was told the “upgraded” room was in another building off the back of the hotel. We proceeded to walk to the other building to find what was obviously an old hotel building, likely built as another low end hotel before being aquired by the Courtyard and hastily painted over to resemble a Courtyard brand. The out building was 12 stories with a single elevator (more on that later), 1 ice machine, and a dime sized pool. We were treated to a lovely view of an empty lot littered with mounds of trash and garbage. The walls were paper thin and we enjoyed hearing every word of every conversation from every room above us, belowus, and next to us. We heard every shower, every toilet flush, and every footstep rang through our room as if intentional. We were treated to a massive f-bomb laden argument in the room above us, and of course other “night sounds” if you catch my drift. Appropriate for the no-tell motel, not a Marriot Courtyard. The keys did not work after our first night and We had to have them reprogrammed, a 20 minute round trip “commute” to the main building where folks actually seemed to have a more Marriot like experience unlike us second rate people “out back.” On night 2 the elevator went out of service. We trudged up 7 floors to get to our rooms on an injured foot for the next two days. Welcome to Hawaii, we hope you enjoy your stay? The final fiasco was walking out of the on site italian restaurant after being ignored by the waitstaff for 25 minutes when we had a tour departure scheduled. WORST MARRIOT EXPERIENCE IN 40+ YEARS OF MARRIOT LOYALTY. Shame on the management of this hotel. SHAME!!!
The rooms were large if sparsely furnished. The common areas are small and need an update. This feels like a tourist hotel for a quite pass through, not a longer stay. Pool is small. We actually changed our plans to avoid a second stay at this hotel.
I’m a Marriott rewards member so I try to always stay in a Marriott. Picked this one as it was close to the cruise port and this suited our needs for a one night stay. The room we were given was on an upper floor and was an end unit. The room was spacious with a wrap around balcony. However, the view was of the other hotels and street but since we were just using as a place to sleep it wasn’t that big of a deal. The bathroom was probably the smallest bathroom I’ve ever had in any hotel. I guess they were trying to get me used to the small bathroom on the cruise. The hotel was also in walking distance to all the expensive shopping and nice restaurants. I don’t think I would select this hotel if I was staying in Honolulu for any longer.
Average Hotel with great location
Nothing wrong with this hotel - it was alright. Originally, placed in a junior suite in the annex building. Rooms were very small, offered view of parking lot. My other half negotiated that we were moved to the main tower as he has elite status. The room was much more spacious, had a balcony, offered an ocean view - the experience was night and day. It does have an alright pool with hot tub - never went in either. The best thing about this hotel is that it is a five to ten minute walk to Waikiki Beach. Please note both rooms were noisy with the outside noise, though they do provide white noise machines.
I slept with roaches and was charged double
Stayed 1 night. I was given a room right in front of the elevator, even though my profile is notated away from elevator as preference. I am a Gold member and booked directly. Room had a musty smell that wouldn't go away even when I blasted the AC to get rid of the humidity. OK that's fine, it's Hawaii. Hot water takes at least 5 minutes of running to finally come on. Whatever, I can deal with all of that especially for the relatively cheap rates this property charges. I was lying in bed shirtless at 3 AM on my laptop with the lights off. I felt an itch on my shoulder, went to scratch it, and it was a cockroach! Scared the daylights outta me. I flicked it off out of reaction and it flew somewhere near the corner of the room. Gross. I called the front desk, no answer. I spoke to the manager on duty the next morning. Her response was "This is Hawaii." Cookie cutter apology with a 5,000 point compensation. Is that a joke? That's not compensation. This property is 50k points per night. Manager told me she would "investigate" and email me later. I haven't heard from them since. Lastly, I paid for the room rate with a different credit card from the one I handed over for incidentals at check in. However I was charged twice for the room rate, once on each credit card. Even my final bill shows it as charged twice for one night. I was told that the authorization would fall off, but instead it has posted on both credit cards. I was charged double! I still have to give them a call to deal with this. What a disaster this place was. I was so grossed out, I couldn't sleep that night.
