Not really a Courtyard. Ok hotel, mediocre value, NO COFFEE!?!?!
I stayed here with my girlfriend for five nights from 28JUL-02AUG2019 and am surprised that this hotel is allowed to be a branded "Courtyard by Marriott." First, I understand that everything in Hawaii is very expensive and there is a need to cut costs. Our room was reasonably priced for what we got, so that's why I'm giving an "average" rating to this property. But this property does not offer standard amenities Marriott loyalists expect from Courtyard properties. The lack of free lobby coffee is absurd. And only providing one coffee pod per day in the room is ludicrous for a business hotel where people need to wake up jet-lagged for work. I was really surprised that there was no breakfast at the hotel and the $20 daily credit provided to us as Marriott Platinum Elites didn't buy much in the hotel pantry or affiliated restaurant located in the same building as the main hotel. The rooms are very small, but I understand this is a densely-populated area so that's understandable. But I still don't think this should be branded as a "Courtyard by Marriott." The internet in our corner room was very spotty. I would be able to stream baseball for about 45 minutes just fine, then it would be 45 minutes of little to no bandwidth for 45 minutes and that constantly went back and forth. The gym was on par or better than the bare minimum you would expect from a Courtyard. The valet parking system was as efficient as it could be in that dense area. The two elevators (and sometimes one) were not really enough to keep up with 18 floors of guests. If you need to be on time to meetings, consider staying on a low floor. The balcony was very enjoyable. The room had a pretty good number of plugs. The air conditioning was extremely powerful. The staff were all exceedingly professional and pleasant, which I know isn't easy in a full hotel during peak season. The location was convenient to Waikiki, the highway, and downtown. Housekeeping staff were diligent and kept the room very clean. It wasn't a bad stay, but this property doesn't deserve to be a Courtyard by Marriott and should be branded something lower. All the staff were professional and polite, but still, I would not stay here again in the future.
Shocked that this is a Marriott Property
I have been traveling regularly for the last 24 years and have had many amazing experiences in Marriott properties, unfortunately this is not one of them. Although I am a Titanium member of the Bonvoy program I was changed from the room I booked to two rooms that are connected. In the thousands of nights that I have spent in hotels I can’t recall having a smaller, more outdated room than the one I am in. The location is decent but this is a really old hotel with tiny rooms so if you just need a place to crash and you are by yourself this courtyard is plausible. If you think that you will be getting a room bigger than a closet I would search elsewhere. For the record I really like Bonvoy, Marriott, Westin but this hotel is a major disappointment
Good location, but not really a "resort"
My wife and I stayed here for a week in July. It is a big hotel with a good location close to the beach (but not ON the beach like Moana Surfrider or Royal Hawaiian). We had one of the newly refurbished rooms in the tower closest to the ocean. The room was not large but was nicely done, and the bed was outstanding! (I stay 75-100 nights a year in Marriotts and this was one of the best I have experienced) There are two fairly run-of-the-mill hotel pools here, and one ~8 person hot tub. You get some poolside service at one pool. and basically none at the other. Really nothing exciting and one of the reasons I find the "resort" label a little misleading. There is a pretty good breakfast buffet here with a big selection (although it doesn't change much day to day). It is complimentary for Titanium members as your welcome gift (for two people in a room I believe). Servers were all very friendly. Parking is SUPER expensive here...do your research online and you will find a MUCH cheaper alternative just across the street.
Not Living up to the Marriott Name
I stayed for 12 nights. I had a high floor room on the NW end of the Kuhio Ave Tower ocean side. The view was actually decent. I hadn’t expected any view. The location is good, not too far to walk to the beach, lots of good food and shopping nearby. There’s a credit card operated laundry. The downside was the cleanliness. The carpet was so dirty it left my feet blackened, the maid didn’t always remember to take out the trash. Once she didn’t come at all. The sheets felt a little sandy the first night. I got a good price, but not the Marriott experience.
I stay at all the Marriott properties and this one is very well located, close to all the attractions on the west end of Waikiki and the middle shops including the international market. They don’t have a restaurant for breakfast but ihop is right outside the front door!
