The True Millennial Review
My wife and I love traveling and have stayed in many places, good and bad around the world, but this was unique. I got a good deal hard to beat through my company. Obviously this place attacks travelers in a budget, like us. We stayed here for a week and here is our experience: This place is going under extreme construction and is right next to The Mill nightclub which is open everyday until 5am. It is very loud. You truly get what you pay for. Grounds: Pool is super cool, with cabanas you can reserve or just take if open. Swim up bar is awesome, if you like extremely sweet cocktails. Not our cup of tea. We only used it once, but they do have a decent happy hour Fridays from 7pm-10pm, 2x1. Water temperature was great. Not very crowded, plenty of space. Kitchen: we only ate in once for a buffet and bottomless mimosas for $29 dollars a person. You would think that they would host it by the outside modern bar, but no. It was inside a small room next to bathrooms. We never ate there again. You can order food in the outside area, but we were not huge fans of food. Drinks are average for hotel zone, $9-$12. Again, very sugary drinks and low alcohol content. The whole place is going through ownership change to a Courtyard Marriott and I guess will conclude by end of year. It will truly be a nice place one finished, but some parts of hotel do not feel like vacation. The location of the resort is not the best either. Our biggest peeve was the lack of sidewalks!!!! Why??!! The hotel zone strip is not far, maybe a 5 minute walk, but they truly made it hard to get there. Again, the construction obstructs back gates to paved sidewalks. You have to walk all the way around and through dirt and to the front entrance of hotel to get in. Very inconvenient and should be addressed immediately. I hope a sidewalk is part of the new construction but we did not see any progress on that end. Terrible location, but you get what you pay for. Music: OMG! Please fire the person in charge of music. We were there for 8 nights(unfortunately) and they played nothing but mood killing music. You are supposed to set the mood with your choice of music, people! They played very depressing Spanish music everyday! Obviously I speak Spanish and knew what it was saying. Some of the music was stuff we played at my grandmas funeral!! Just awful. A couple other night they were playing music with sexual moaning. LOL! Terrible DJ. Bring your headphones to the pool. Staff: Jose from the beach is the reason this place earns 2 stars. He was very helpful and attentive. Everyone else was great, but never wowed us. Beach Shuttle: This place is near Palm Beach, which in my opinion, is much better than Eagle Beach. It’s less crowded, less windy, and crystal clear waters. It is also walking distance from the hotel, but the hotel offers a shuttle from 9am-5pm. The Mill provides beach towels and chairs, that is where Jose is. Lots of shade or sun. Thumbs up. You can bring your drinks and food to beach in Aruba, FYI. Also, open container country. That was fun. Rooms: If you are lucky you will get an updated room. They are modern, awesome shower with see through walls, great water pressure and temperature. Central AC, very cool feature. Our room had some scratches on the wall. Very small fridge and a very smelly microwave. No ice maker nearby, no food menus, not coffee/tea, nice balcony, comfortable bed. Very basic. We were annoyed about the no coffee/tea thing. Closest coffee shop is Lola, 10 minute walk. Or mediocre hotel coffee, not free. Also FYI, tap water is safe to drink in Aruba! Do not need to buy bottled water. Overall, a mediocre resort under construction, bare amenities, friendly staff, great pool, s**ty location, 20 feet from a raging locals nightclub that closes at dawn. If you are couple on a budget like we were and are ok with mediocrities, fine. Hotel management, fix your music selection and do something about sidewalks, please. I am sure this place will be a great place to stay once it is finished. For now, you get what you pay.
This was our first time as a family to travel to Aruba and I've got to say that staff makes a whole difference to your experience. Hospitability is always what makes the hotel experience a truly wonderful experience and The Mill has the best staff (in our opinion). They made the stay priceless to us. We will always remember our vacation to Aruba, not because of the beaches (okay maybe), but because of the people who made our stay as wonderful as possible; and it all starts with the hotel. Thank you to the staff of The Mill, especially Virginia, Elvie, and many more! We hope to see you soon :) -the Martin family
Fabulous place to stay on a budget
The Mill is undergoing renovations and "wow" what a difference! The rooms are updated, bed is comfortable and the shower is to die for. The pool area is very nice with 2 pools, hot tub and a nice pool bar. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful, especially Leetsia. Davia C. the Front Desk Manager was delightful and guided us through any hurdles due to the renovations. She was incredibly helpful in every way. I'd definitely recommend staying at the Mill as it's great value for the dollar.
Work in Progress!
Renovation is far from completion. Sha-Kima and Arlyn were excellent! They put their customers need first. They were extremely patient. They aimed to satisfy the customer. They took time to take you to visit the room before assigning it to you. I chose this establishment because it was not all inclusive thinking that my friends could join me, but that was not the case. The manager was nice enough to give me an upgraded room. The hot tub was not in working order. Overall, it was okay. Would love to visit when the work is completed. Nancy was awesome and went above and beyond to accommodate my needs. Thank you.
Left our room door OPEN and Noisy Nightclub
My friend and I stayed here in July 2019. As we arrived the hotel is under intense renovation works - there is no lobby, it is just construction. As we are two young people we let that slide. As we walked up to our room there was a dirty nail on the floor - we pushed this out the way but was very concerned considering there were little children walking around. The room itself was modern, but there was no proper door for the bathroom and the shower had a glass door. For friends sharing this was not appropriate and we had to take turns showering with the other unable to go into the bathroom area otherwise we would see the other naked in the shower! No tea or coffee facilities either which was disappointing. Also, our view was of construction and a wall which was awful. The worst thing about this hotel was that one night we came back and our hotel room DOOR WAS LEFT OPEN by housekeeping. We were terrified someone was still in the room, and we were so lucky when we opened the door that none of our items were stolen. We were so luckly that we had taken all our valuables with us that day as anyone could have come in our room. On this same occasion all our clothes and shoes had been moved around the room in random places, including underwear which made us feel incredibly uncomfortable. As two young girls on holiday together, we no longer felt comfortable in this room. We told the girl on the front desk who rudely told us she would call the manager. When the manager came she offered no apology and told us they probably moved our stuff as the room was messy! Such a cheek! No apology for the fact that the door was left open and the safety of our valuable compromised. She was very rude and offered no form of compensation. Following this incident, the lady at the front desk became very hostile to us and no longer greeted us when we came in (she had before this incident) - we felt that they had purposely singled us out. There was also a nightclub right next to the hotel which played very loud music. We got woken up on a Saturday night at 4am by the music blarring - not suitable for anyone wanting a relaxing time. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The manager was very rude, the hotel was under unsafe construction, it was next to a nightclub that kept us awake every night, and they compromised our safety by leaving our door open. Stay away!
