Nice Vacation but not my favorite
Catalonia Royal Tulum, I want to start off and say it wasn’t my favorite resort but it wasn’t terrible. The pros to the resort are - I really enjoyed the jungle part between the rooms and the beach. I ended up falling in love with the Coati’s that ran around the place. The rooms were standard and they serviced their purpose. The beach is stunning and clean from seaweed. The entertainment at night wasn’t bad, I actually enjoyed myself on the comedy night, water acrobatic, salsa night and one other night where they were lip singing. Lastly, the staff here were friendly and nice. The cons were - the food was not to my liking. The breakfast and lunch were probably my favorite but there is some suggestions I have. For example, the pancakes, crepes and waffles sat out and were soggy. If I was to rate this hotel a 5 star, I would prefer someone cooking them fresh in front of you. Which they had a station for but was never used the 8 days I was there. The food in general at dinner time was average. It lacked seasoning and proteins were overcooked. The Mexican restaurant was my biggest disappointment, it was too over the top and not even close to authentic. For example, I wanted a tamale but this was a tamale that had no meat inside, it had some type of lettuce mixture instead. I will say Tao Cat was by far my favorite restaurant and came to this place often. Last thing that lost a star for me, is they title guests by normal guests, privileged and exclusive. Which in my eyes is a waste of money and is the dumbest thing Catalonia could have done. The only difference is the rooms are slightly nicer, they get 1 extra restaurant, which I saw nobody at, they get an indoor entertainment room that normal guests are not allowed inside unless you pay money and lastly, the beach was divided based on what type of guest you were. In my eyes, I would never pay for it and I think everybody should be equal and enjoy the resort the same!

I have to say the beach is beautiful, the rooms are clean, the butlers are great and the staff are nice. It’s adult’s only and a smaller resort. What won’t bring me back is the food and the services offered. A nominal fee can be charged for privilege. There really isn’t much of a difference between the two. Well, except a membership cost of $10,000US for 10 years. The restaurants close on a rotating basis daily. The quality of the food needs to be much better. I ordered the ribeye at the “steakhouse” restaurant and it came out paper thin. The combination of food in dishes are from Mars. Overdone ceviche, with corn and peanuts? Another fish so tough, I couldn’t cut it with my knife. Anyway, you get the point. Visit after visit, this resort just falls short. Underwhelming and disappointed. Catalonia Royal Bavaro was worse, on all levels. After spending so much money, you’d think they’d look after their members. #fail
Fabulous hotel. Amazing views
A little haven away from the madness of day to day life. The staff were super helpful and always cheery. A great place to relax. Food was god but some of the cocktails were pretty average at best. Beware of the martinis - they are pretty strong!
Good food, clean room, nice pool, friendly staff, nice beach, nice path from lobby to rooms to beach, average drink strength (typical all inclusive), clean grounds. Did I say beautiful beach and friendly staff?!
Beautiful, Clean and Friendly
Beautiful resort, great pool and food. Travel time from airport to resort was long as we picked up other guest to drop off so I recommend upgrading transfer to personal to cut drive time down. There is a lot of walking so if you have problems I suggest a scooter. The bell boys were very good to take us to pool and beach area. Overall was a wonderful experience.
