This is the resort for us, we will be back.

My husband and I returned to Catalonia Royal Tulum once again as we really love this resort. We spent ten nites. Check in was quick and efficient. Our room was as we had requested, ground floor with king bed. The app they have to make restaurant reservations is easy to navigate, and I am older so that is important. Restaurants were pretty good, the buffet for breakfast and again for lunch if you choose is quite good, staff is wonderful. Has a great view if you choose the sea side. We also upgraded so had the option of Beloved, which again has a wonderful view and we enjoyed many meals there. The steak house was very good as was the Mexican. Our favorite meal of our 10 days was at the Italian, it was just a perfect evening, staff was lovely and the food was yummy. As far as the hotel grounds, they are kept quite well. Beach is amazing, pool is clean as is all areas around the pool. The walkways within the resort are a pleasure everyday to walk, with a jungle vibe. Location is ideal, for us. Situated between Playa del Carmen to the north and Akumal to the South. Close enough to hop a Collectivo, vans that you can ride for a fee up and down the highway, Also a short walk to a local beach club down the beach that has live music most afternoons, not part of the resort but well worth a visit. Entertainment is quite good on some days and nights and could be better on others. A live Spanish band one night was awesome, we enjoyed that the most. The Mexican night was very good, along with the Mexican buffet that night. The day activities seem to lack luster this year, we would only see this as we have been so many times. There were things to do ie volleyball, aquacize, bingo, yoga and some games but has been more vibrant in past years with some outdoor cooking, fashion show and making guacamole for example... All in all this is the resort for us. Beach is perfect, the water is quiet, no jet skis ....Location is great, staff is amazing, over and over they are so good and helpful. We will be back for sure.

I came to Catalonia Royal Resort in a couple trip. This was a great experience. The food, the drinks “tequila sunrise “ my favorite. But the most great part was the staff. The personal in this hotel was amazing. Animation staff so friendly. They all great specially Shamel he was very enthusiastic. Thank you all for the hard work you put into it to make my vacation a unique experience. :)

    Would not recommend

Overall: would not recommend this resort. The overall resort and swimming beach is very nice. The rooms were kept clean and the buffet staff was super friendly! The rauxa show was worth going to and we had the best food of our stay there! The performances were great. The food is hit and miss. The buffett has a ton of options! The dinner reservation system wasn’t a problem for us, but only because we booked immediately. I can see how this would be for others. The room service menu (only way to get food after 10) is very slim and they were often out of items each day. CONS: The tequila bar is listed to be open until 2 AM. Instead they closed at 10:30 PM each night and there was no sign or notice of this. Many people walked up and were confused and frustrated. There was 0 place to get a drink or frankly do anything on the resort after 10. If you’re anywhere under the age of 65 or enjoy a little nightlife, this isn’t the resort for you. We were pretty frustrated by this as we booked this stay with a group of people because we had late night options. Additionally, the staff grabbed our luggage from our room and then lost it by sending it in the wrong transportation and airport (even after writing our room number and pickup time on the luggage). We had to leave without our luggage or even confirmation they knew where it was. We almost missed our flight because of this. When asked if they can call us before our flight with information, they didn’t after they said they would. We still don’t have our bags and won’t for awhile. When asked multiple times about ANY sort of compensation for the issue they caused, they have ignored it and have yet to answer. We will be going to another resort if we come back to Tulum.

    Back to Paradise

After a 2 year hiatus we decided to come back after promising to not return because of reasons explained in my previous review, (feel free to check if interested) so I won't go into details. That being said, we decided to return because after browsing different adult only resorts in the Mayan Riviera and the unwillingness/fear to get disappointed trying our luck with other resorts we decided to forget the past and try again and we were not disappointed. Upon arrival, the vibes of returning home were present, one thing we love is the staff friendliness and happy attitude, one of several things that makes us go back. Sevice is always impeccable, smiles and friendliness since stepping out of the shuttle at the hotel entrance. But, some of the staff were just outstanding and I have to mention them . "Quetzabel" and "Angeles" at La Palapa, they are great hostess. Quetzabel is the captain of the ship there and she always greets you with a smile and her personality sparks, makes you laugh and makes you feel like part of her family and at home, Angeles always smiling and ready to go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. Our server for the most part of our stay was "Luis" in the exclusive area, he is very attentive and prompt. From the Beloved restaurant I have to mention "Evangelina", she might be a small girl but she is fast and super attentive and friendly. We had a very good experience at Mamma Mia, unfortunately I don't remember their names but the hostess and the waiters were amazing as well. One thing we noticed was that the dish portions at the themed restaurants were extremely small, having to order twice the same dish to feel satisfied, we have noticed this the last couple of years, specially at beloved, it is not that I wanted to engulf myself, I know I had the option to ask for two dishes if I wanted but I have to make a note of this since some people might want to just get satisfied with one dish not having to order twice. For this reason some days we opted to eat at the buffet instead of sticking to Beloved, although we did go back at night to have dessert and coffee to seat at the outdoor patio to enjoy the ocean breeze. In this stay we signed up with Exclusive Traveler Club, we have to still to explore it to see if it is really worth the investment, so I won't comment much yet. All I can say is the butlers are amazing "Maria, Cecilia and Karla" were great, we felt spoiled. I must say the beach chairs at ETC are way more comfortable. Also I wish there was more options in the restaurant menus for ETC members, adding only 1 or 2 items for ETC members is quite sad. We also missed the hammocks at the beach, what happened to them?. We have gone kayaking with the service offered at the beach and we had a lot of fun, this time it was disappointing as from the only 2 kayaks available, one was in bad shape, I kept falling from it and couldn't balance, it was until we realized there was water coming inside the kayak, we returned and told the staff to take a look, hopefully it'll be fixed. Finally, one of my favourite spots is the outdoor whirlpool overlooking the beach, I like to spend sometime there, specially if there is nobody, it is relaxing and I can just seat, relax and meditate, you can also take amazing photos from there. Not sure if I was just unlucky those days but every time I went there, I noticed that it is kind of neglected, the water looked cloudy and you could see a layer of what seemed to be sunscreen on the water and a lot of debris at the bottom, cups were sitting empty on the side for the longest time, I came in, spend like 20 min, went out to the beach for about 2 hours and when walking back to the room I saw the same empty cups sitting by the whirlpool. Overall, our experience was great, we will go back to CRT, if I mentioned the glitches here and there it is because I believe it is important to bring this things up so they can be looked after and improved and continue to make more people happy in the future making the experience even more unforgettable.

    Worst trip Ever

Worst trip ever.Food was limited, tasteless, and service was very slow. Some of their restaurants are not operating or under repair.. Burgers & Fries only this trip folks. Bar drinks were weak or just wrong. If you tip excessively you will get deceit service. Otherwise you’re invisible. Bring tons of cash - they are not shy about asking for it. Rooms clean and refrigerator stocked. I lost 5 lb. Nobody losses weight on vacation. Hard sell on Time Shares. Cleaning staff didn’t pick up coffee cups or empty glasses for days. Some days you got fresh towels - some days not. Asked to speak to Mgr several times - could find him - not in - or not available. ATM charges $30.00 in transaction fees. Check you bill carefully - lots of mistakes.
