Just got home from Catalonia Riviera Maya and Yucatan Beach resort. Great experience. Everything was superb. Very clean and staff was excellent. A small resort but lots to do. I would definitely recommend this resort.
Adequate — not great value
The reason for coming here was to snorkel in the Caribbean. I thought I would be able to do so at this resort. Sadly the water is full of rocks and quite shallow. There is a short beach to walk. The resort is ok but I’ve been to much better for the same money. The food is tasty. This is the quieter side of the resort and I’m thankful for that. The evening entertainment is by far the best at any of the resorts I’ve stayed. Our room is just ok. Small pillows and a hard bed. We are in a basic room.
My wife and I spent New Year's at that resort. The resort grounds were kept up very well, but the vacation itself was very average. The front desk staff and the reservation lady could be a bit more pleasant. The puffy food at the resort was average, but the restaurants were pretty good. The Japanese hibachi was my favorite by far. The shows for the entertainment at night was very good. The decor in my room was very outdated, but I will say that AC works very well which is important in Mexico.
Perfect hotel for having fun
I was alone, but hell I've passed a good time at Catalonia. Of course, the room are a bit old, the buffet is a okay 4 stars typical buffet, there's rock on the beach... But everyone can ignore this since the employee are so so friendly. You can easily meet some party friend on the beach, at the multiples bar, and the animation team was there to put a smile on people faces and to create an extremely nice atmosphere. The highlight of the hotel ? Clearly Manuel and Raphael, the two best bartenders I've ever encountered. They where there for more than just drinks. They know how to generate conversations and they were more than funny. I've met two tourists at the bar and they've contribute a lot at the best drinking experience I've ever had while traveling in Mexico. 5 stars for Manuel and Raphael! I'll surely comeback. Salute!
RUDE STAFF, FOOD WAS VERY POOR, DONT UPGRADE
We booked a room for 3 persons but the room we we allocated was set up for two, it took until our fourth night to get it corrected. alot of the staff are rude and unhelpful, Nelly in the Brasila was very nice as were the night workers in the Grill restaurant, reception staff not very helpful at all. the a la carte meals are in general poor quality and tasteless and if you dare to mention it you get branded trouble ,the Japanese restaurant is a poor quality Chinese restaurant. the Mexican restaurant serve tasteless meals that are not even described properly on the menu. The grill restaurant is the best from them all and have very helpful staff. BLOVED restaurant has the best view but the worst food and service, the manager hides rather than come and find out what the issues are. don't upgrade to privileged as it is not worth the money , beach, pool and bar are used by anyone as they don't monitor . The spa had a water dispenser that had green slime growing in it, the hydro pool had thick grease around part of the pool ( how often is that cleaned) I would not return to this hotel as they lack customer care and do not seek to resolve issues, we were told by a senior person ( OSCAR) to find another resort!!!! entertainment in the day is very much for children. I raised a few issues and put it in writing but it does seem that they dont care , raised with TUI rep as well!!
