I have travelled over 25 times to the Caribbean and have only stayed at all inclusive resorts . Catalonia playa Maroma was a great resort , small, very clean and great service . We filled out the pre arrival form on line before we arrived at the hotel which made check in so fast and easy. We did upgrade for privileged services only and yes I think it was worth it . We really enjoyed the room service and the food was delicious and delivered in less then 35 minutes . The pools were very clean and well kept. Beach gorgeous, very little seaweed and beach drink service was amazing ! Our room was in villa 4 ground floor, very clean and outstanding housekeeping . The walk to the buffet was so nice , less then 5 minutes, peaceful , relaxing. We enjoyed the buffet , never waited for a seat, good food, great service , no AC but don’t care we’re in the Caribbean for the heat! As for beloved restaurant it was good, when we went there had a very limited menu and said they were out of everything . Oh well. Decor and style was beautiful. Grill steak house was fantastic excellent service . I would ensure your booking has all your requests noted on file as well. I emailed the hotel a few times and I got replies every time . It was a great quite , relaxing holiday .
It is not my first time in all inclusive, but it is my first time that I don't want to come back or highly do NOT recommend a hotel. Rooms are very old. No air conditioning in the buffet. Only one buffet available. In the morning be ready to wait 15-30 min until you get a table. In the evening no restaurant reservations available. First come first serve. Restaurant open at 6 pm. We got to the restaurant at 7:10 and got in only at 9:55. Once we agree to wait we never been told kitchen close at 10:30. We where not expected not to have full service. We could not have desert because kitchen closed by the time we got main. I don't understand why they even agreed to give us a table if they knew kitchen close at 10:30. I could've go to different restaurant or buffet. Be ready to walk 10-15 min alley every time when you need to go to lobby or buffet. Very disappointed in my choice of hotel for this vacation.
We were at the resort for 7 days in mid May 2019. Pros : * Beach is beautiful, seaweed minimal for 6 out of 7 days, wait service excellent * Room privilege very nice excellent maid Erika * Speciality restaurants The Grill and Miguel excellent, Italian very good, did not eat in the rest * Grounds. well maintained and beautiful Cons: * Upon check in we were told upon check out we would need to pay Eco Tax which we knew about ahead of time. At that time we asked if we could pay in cash and was told yes * Buffet. horrible service and cold food and not much to chose from. We would ask for coffee or tea and waiter would never come back after stopping several waiters. We found this very odd and ended up getting our own. * Outside vendors there was a vendor who made a sign that said. F#%* Trump * Check out. we had charged a small amount to room $2 because you have to either charge it to your room or use credit card at all stores in the resort. We were informed that the eco tax was $7 for a total of $9 to check out. We were then told we can use any monetary amount Mexican, Canadian, British etc BUT US DOLLARS. When asked why we were told because of “MR TRUMP” and all resorts in the area are doing the same. That being said had they been honest at the beginning about paying with cash we would not have stayed at this resort.. Could this be the reason for poor service in the buffet. We will never know. Not a single worker had any problem taking it American money for tips has to make me believe that management is the problem. We are seasoned travelers having been to Mexico twice a year for the past 6 years. We have never experienced such prejudice in Mexico before. We have a trip to this resort scheduled for October of this year and will most certainly be canceling. On the bus trip to our car in Cleveland we spoke to two other couples and their resorts accepted US dollars. So were were lied to again. In closing I have to warn any Americans going to this resort. Book at your own risk. This resort obviously does not want our business. P TAMARGO CANTON OHIO
Our room was amazing. Clean and tidy I'm not sure if paying the extra for privilege made that much difference. rooms are cleaned to a good standard. The entertainment was non-existent,as adults there really wasn't much to do in the evening ,definately geared towards young famlies .. couldn't distinguish between Adult and Children's areas around the pool. on a good note all alcoholic drinks where branded 😊 Drawback ,dining in the main restaurant was extremely unpleasant ,sweating during breakfast and dinner made the dining experience unpleasant. On a really negative note two individuals in our party came down with sickness and diarrhea, around day 3-4 day, I attempted to get some food from the restaurant to take food to their room, staff refused to allow me to take out any food, from the restaurant informing me i would need to pay $15 , however eventually they made an exception just once ,allowing me to take bread rolls ham to the room . The Wildlife amazing, the Resort is truly beautiful... We r on our last 2 days here and felt it was important to write this review.
Great Hotel , super recomended
We went with my family , 2 adults 2 kids of 2 and 5 years old. The place was great, clean, staff was always there and helpfull , always with good mood. We got the priviledge package , and it was totally worth it, the room was amazing, even the toilet paper had perfume. every night we had our beds opened an ready to go, a little chocolate candy for each of us, fresh water and most important, super clean. Hotel restaurants where really good, and with the priviledge we can had breakfast on the "beloved" one, which was good, as the buffet was on the other part of the hotel, which is a long walk (with the hot and humidity sometimes is a pain) i think only the buffet is the less good, but it wasnt bad, the thing is kinda messy, so many people coming and going , and people working there dont notice that you for example are waiting for a cup of coffe or something to drink. besides that, the hotel is great, i went to cancun a couple of times before, Omni in cancun, and Sandos playacar on p del carmen, and this one (half the price) in my opinion was better than both. Regarding the vacational package, they have sellers that are going to try to sell you that, but if you just say no, they stop . so no big deal. SARGAZO : big thing, when we went there, it was terrible, a meter high of sargazo piled on the beach. BUT hotel staff was constantly cleaning it , by hand, and using two big tractors, so thats another good thing, they are fighting daily against that (is not hotel fault in the end).
