The beautiful beach cannot save this resort

The resort is well worn in and is desperate need of an upgrade. The furniture is old, Wi-Fi is wonky, if it works and the food, while available everywhere, lacks taste and flavour. The best things about the place is perhaps the towels and the warmth of its employees. Even the employees though, appear very tired because they battle to keep up with the demands of their guests. Not much else they can do I suppose.

Great hotel but a few tweaks needed to match the standard of other Catalonia hotels.

As always, I will be as honest as possible within my review and will outline the pros and cons. However, this is based upon my own experience and am mindful that we all look for different things within a holiday. The check in process was slow, with lots of people waiting (current guests) and no dedicated area for check in only. This is an area that requires improvement. After a 10 hour flight, most people want to the check in to be quick and easy. Whilst it was easy, it wasn’t quick. The staff mainly are happy and helpful. Yes, you come across the odd person who clearly isn’t happy and this shows, but this is no different to any other area of a chosen career. I did not experience any rudeness and all staff were attentive and displayed high levels of good customer service. The rooms are basic, clean and have everything that you need. Our room was spotless! Massive thank you to Sandra, our housekeeper, she kept our room spotless and topped up coffee etc on a daily basis. She also left some very sweet notes wishing us a happy holiday, and upon seeing us, gave a positive and happy greeting! The pool area, we did not use this but it looked clean with plenty of sun-beds. The shaded areas and umbrellas were minimal. The entertainment was available and staff delivering this appeared energised and creative. Food (buffet) was plentiful with a wide range. A’la cart experienced and were a welcome change from the buffet. Service was good and the place was clean. Bar service was a little slow at times, but this being said, the staff did a great job at trying to get through the customers quickly. There is a wide enough range of drinks that will please most people. If I had any grumbles, it was about the glass (plastic tumbler) sizes, these really ought to be bigger as this would reduce the queues at the bars. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. There are a lot of cats roaming about, this didn’t bother us but my allergies were triggered within the first two days. Several of the cats are pregnant so I would imagine the feline family will grow massively! The hotel do a good job in ensuring any cat faeces is cleared away quickly. The cat situation genuinely did not bother us, but I can see why some people may have an issue with this. The little island, oh my god, Heaven! This place is amazing!!! Again, minimal shade but such a peaceful and beautiful setting. The only grumble I had with this is other holiday makers playing music very loud, sometimes more than one which was very annoying for those that wanted peace and quiet! This is not the hotels fault, more that some people are either not socially aware or just don’t care! The beach areas are clean with plenty of beds, well maintained and very safe. The entertainment is very basic, a couple of good shows but otherwise mediocre. I have stayed at Catalonia in Dominican Republic and the entertainment there was outstanding! Maybe my expectations were too high but I found the entertainment quite poor. This being said, this did not make or break my holiday (we create our own entertainment 🙂. The areas of the hotel are generally clean and tidy. However, touch points are dirty to an unacceptable level. I’m no hotel inspector but seriously, the lifts, buttons, stair rails etc really were dirty. We did have one slight issue with drinks, had Jim beam every day up until day 10 to then be told they had run out (across the whole hotel). Day 11, was then told this spirit was for premium guests only (even if it was, they didn’t have any)! Day 11 back in stock and available to all guests- this was a very odd situation! The jerk hut and crepes, great places with happy and friendly staff. Getting out and about, we used the tour guides at the front of the hotel. They are more expensive but helped us feel safe and gave us some information on local areas and landmarks. Robert and Mr Fisher were super helpful and accommodating. Pros: beautiful setting with clean and comfortable rooms. Great for a relaxing break! The rooms are comfortable, clean and have all amenities needed. Cons: The entertainment needs a lot of work. There is no mini bar in standard rooms, in their Catalonia's, this is available as standard. The cats, the hotel need to try and get this situation under control. The smoking area is tiny and without cover, not funny when it rains! Overall, we had an amazing holiday and would return again. The little island is the biggest reason I booked this hotel and would book it again. The only things that could be improved are as follows: Mini bar in all rooms to include water and beers. Touch points to be cleaned on a regular basis. Main bar area in the lobby to be made bigger with more staff. Cup sizes to be bigger. Smoking area to have a cover of some description: gazebo/pergola? Sterilise the cats to prevent more breading. Check in desk to be allocated for arrivals. More umbrella to be built. Stop shouting at the vendors in the water, this is very uncomfortable to observe. Remove towels off of sun-beds if left unattended for more than 45 mins. Some people put there towels down and were not seen for 5 hours or so! Create a good, cultural entertainment programme. I gave 4 stars as the experience was above average, I would define it as good but the option is not available for this in terms of rating. None of the improvements suggested or negative areas affected our holiday. It would have enhanced the experience if it were available.

    Bring back holiday inn sunspree

Inside the resort in very old now it really need to be renovated and not patched up. If things were how it use to be it would be amazing let’s just say the place is not jumping like it once was u need to see and check the reviews when it was sunspree or ask the employees what they missed the most

Disappointing Stay at Catalonia Montego Bay

I had high expectations for Catalonia Montego Bay, but unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfying. While the resort itself has potential, several key aspects left me feeling like my time and money were wasted. The food was just average, with meals lacking variety and, most importantly, protein options. The snack bar was extremely limited, making it difficult to grab a quick bite throughout the day. To make matters worse, there was absolutely nothing to eat after 10:00 PM—a major inconvenience for a resort that should cater to guests at all hours. Another major letdown was the early closure of amenities. The pool, jacuzzi, and beach area all closed at 5:00 PM, which made it feel like the resort was shutting down before the evening even began. This left very little to do in terms of entertainment or relaxation, making the overall experience dull and uneventful. If you’re looking for a fun, all-inclusive resort where you can truly enjoy your vacation, this is not the place. Sadly, it felt more like an overpriced, restrictive stay rather than a relaxing getaway. I won’t be returning. 👎🏽

A new name with a pleasant old school hospitality

Wear your swimsuit on the plane folks! This all-inclusive getaway is just minutes from the airport. The stress seems to disappear as you enter the facility. A quick check-in and you’re at the beach minutes later. The beach areas are clean and well maintained daily, end to end. lounging spaces and swimming areas were abundant. Find your spot and enjoy. A relaxing family atmosphere keeps everything laid back or Jamaican jamming! The choice is yours. You’ll add this one to your vacation getaway list.
