*Important Information for our guests*
The Dominican Republic imposes various restrictions each year for Easter. The restrictions usually begin the Thursday prior to Good Friday, and run a few days past Easter Sunday. The following regulations may be enforced:
*Motorized and non-motorized watersports may be banned
*Alcohol consumption may be restricted (most resorts obtain a special permit which enables them to serve alcohol to non-native persons during the ban)
*Music may be limited or silenced
These rules are designed for the safety of everyone, as beaches get extremely busy during this period.

loved our stay. not over yet but wanted to review while we were here. beautiful grounds, for the most very friendly staff. Helps if you can speak a little spanish. Elizabeth Fransisco and the rest of the staff at the Pure chill out bar ( privileged section only )especially deserve a mention, attentive service and always a smile to go with it. Beautifully made drinks and cocktails . Fabulous. not over impressed with the speciality restraunts but the buffet was superb. fantastic choice and some great characters cooking and serving. all in all well worth a visit
Great trip!! Great staff!! The pure bar was the best with Ellie and Francisco and francisca!!🥂🍻🍾🍺🥃🥤 The grounds were beautiful Everyone was so helpful and friendly!! Will decline go back for a 3rd trip!! The weather was the best!! The resort was clean
This was our second visit and it didn’t disappoint. The beautiful gardens and grounds were stunning as was the last time. All members of staff were very friendly and attentive.Special thanks to Maria at the beach restaurant and Sahara at the bar.Our friends and ourselves felt we were very well looked after by the management and indeed we appreciated it.We will certainly be back.
Focus on beach and pool, not food, and you'll have an amazing time!
We've cruised for 40 years, and this was our first all-inclusive resort. It would depend upon food quality if we did another. We were Privileged, not a a great benefit because we didn't drink much. The separate beach with Balinese beds would have been a huge benefit if those beds weren't "reserved" by entitled jerks by 8 a.m. every single day. *Best parts:* --Beach was beautiful, despite being rocky. Plenty of chairs in the non-privileged section. Truly, the towel-reserved chairs started out each morning with anger. I wish they'd ban that. But what a view! MaLoo fresh juice was amazing. --Resort grounds were meticulously maintained. --The pool was lovely. Coffee bar: We went every day and loved! Servers were not hateful. Hit-or-miss parts: Service: With the exception of our daily maid, the majority of the bar staff, and Delmira who served in the breakfast buffet, "service with a smile" was not a thing at the Catalonia. We tipped regularly. The servers in the specialty restaurants seemed downright angry. Front desk staff saw me every day because our key cards did not work; they blamed ME. Tried multiple times to use outdoor facilities, but no staffers. Similarly, although promised 5 visits to specialty restaurants, a hostess stopped us after 3. I would've contested the issue but those restaurants were not good. *Worst part:* Food: I'd been warned about mediocre food, and was mentally prepared for disappointment, but I hoped it'd at least be as good as a U.S. chain restaurant.
Room for improvement, lots
Paid for all inclusive holiday, however from the moment we stepped on the transfer bus from airport, it was clear that tipping for everything was the expected norm. If we have paid top dollar for the holiday, I expect the travel company to ensure that the staff are paid a decent wage. Check in delayed as despite 2 emails directly to hotel before departure and telephone call to travel co to request adjoining rooms, no record of this was noted. After delay, eventually allocated, but wrong room noted on doc requiring another trip to check in. Rooms clean, could do with updating. Main restaurant, sweltering as not enclosed therefore no AC. Food buffet average, you won't starve, but may become bored unless you like eggs and lots of vegetable based dishes. Queuing system for tables completely unnecessary, but appears all part of the tipping culture, coupled with waiting for water or other drinks, waiters want to do this in order that you tip. Couple of times waiting for water as melting in the humidity, went to get our own and staff intervene. There are 4 a la carte restaurants; Italian, Carribbean, Japanese & Steakhouse. Told no need to book, just turn up. Tried the Italian to be faced with another queue, unfriendly staff 'managing' door entry, no greeting, only concerned with how many of us, our voucher,no indication of how long we would have to wait despite being asked a number of times by both our group and another gentleman, who was in fact completely ignored. There is a strange routine of collecting a pile of menus, opening and shutting each folder and then depositing them in a pile under the lecture, only to repeat this waste of time exercise when you are eventually allocated a table. Simple solution is to have the Spanish, French, English other languages menus in one book. We're not stupid, we can work it out which page we need. The food was average, service below average. Steak house slightly better, although on 2nd visit the service was poor, asking 3 times for a 2nd drink is not acceptable, we left after waiting forever. Carribbean restaurant, food average, service slightly better. We had 2 days if heavy rain, thunder. Nothing you can do about that, but we had a leak in the room. Maintenance came quickly and sorted. Used the gym quite a bit as son was doing rehab work, small but ok, AC great. Staff disinterested, we would say hello, but nothing back. A group of traders set up stalls one day and were a bit too much in your face trying to sell stuff. Pool area busy, usual practice of people claiming sunbeds with towels, never to be seen most of the time, we sat in chairs mostly. Swim up very busy with people who seemed to take root at the bar for the day. Didn't appreciate people walking in the pool with drinks, some with cigarettes. Animation team worked hard with activities during day and evening. The loveliest people were our room maid, absolutely delightful with friendly smile everyday and the staff at the Arome coffee bar, great service.
