Situated at the ocean's edge, Castle Kona Bali Kai offers a unique lodging experience in the sunniest spot on Hawaii's Big Island. You can pull up a lounge chair where white sand and black lava rock mingle among tide pools. Enjoy the shade of palm trees will you listen to the surf. If you are lucky, you might spot a Hawaiian green sea turtle grazing in the water or sleeping in the sand. The lava rocks shield the beach from waves and help to create small wading pools ideal for children.
Castle Kona Bali Kai has affordable, airy, and comfortable studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom oceanfront suites on the makai (ocean) side, as well as studio and one-bedroom units with ocean or mountain views on the mauka (mountain) side. Makai units are cooled with fans and the consistent ocean breeze, while most mauka units have air conditioning. Many of the units have a washer/dryer and there is an onsite laundromat for your convenience. Keep your kitchen stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables via the Island Grocery Delivery service, or from nearby Alii Garden's Marketplace. There is also a convenience store located just next door. If you are in the mood to cook, you will have access to multiple barbeques on the property, some with oceanfront views overlooking the tide pools.
On-site amenities include Miller's Surf Shop, the award winning Poke Shack (serving incredible fresh poke!), and a discount activities desk. The friendly front-desk staff can help you with your needs and give you the inside tips for "local" knowledge.
Almost every day ends with a spectacular sunset, so you can understand why Alii was the avenue of Hawaii's royalty. As you look for your special Kona condo, remember that Castle Kona Bali Kai provides endless adventures in any direction.

You are the worst, you should be ashamed
What a joke, this place can rot. Haven’t even checked in, my parents got my wife and I a room for the evening til our plane left. So for 4 hour stay, we get absolutely blasted with a $135 cleaning fee to go with the standard $87 room fee. Avoid this place like the STD of lodging they are. Oh, and if you’re like me and thought “cancel the reservation and save the headache” you can’t cancel. Dear Castle Kona Bali Kai, go to hell and stay there
We rented an ocean front condo from VRBO, unit 214. I'm sure not all are as well maintained as this one. It was completely updated. Holly, the manager was communicative and made check-in seamless. Love the location, as it was far enough from the bustle of town, but close enough for easy access to restaurants. I would definitely rent this unit again.
The Hotel Industry is Shady
Really - $154 cleaning fee! Please read the fine print. I stayed in this room for 9 hours, and my rate doubled because the rate listed does not include the fee. The industry is seriously lacking in integrity when rates are listed without fees, and then those fees double your expense. This "condo" was old and grimy - my advice, check the fee. The lay out is also confusing - you get a lock box on the door and when checking in at night - have to call on the phone. Strangest experience with a hotel - EVER!
Older complex but well maintained and secure
We rented an ocean front condo from HomeAway. The condo on the 4th (top) floor featured a great balcony with the views and sounds of the ocean below. We enjoyed watching turtles in the tide pools, surfers and waves. The beach is not suitable for swimming but the complex provides beach side chairs to enjoy views and breezes. The pool in the atrium of complex was fine to cool off on a hot day. The condo was quiet and we appreciated the on-site security staff. The condo we rented was nicely decorated and well stocked. We also took care to select a condo with AC which we appreciated during the hot September weather.
Nice location, but bad beach.
The ambiance is very nice. The rooms for the Castle Kona Bali Kai are across the street from the ocean (I almost said beach). The oceanfront is very rocky and not any place you would go into the water. There is a public access to the ocean next door with a small park, but it’s rocky there too with only a short paved walkway into the water. I would not risk going in and most importantly get out of the water there. There are surfers who use it, but not many. There are beaches nearby in both directions that have sandy beaches, so drive a mile or so to visit them. The sunset is great from the hotel and there is a nice pool and Jacuzzi that hardly anyone uses. The staff is friendly and efficient. My room had a full kitchen with enough kitchenware to do any food preparation. I actually had a view of the ocean albeit a sliver, but I could hear the waves crashing against the shore.
