Stayed in Room 722; Nice room, with view of hilo bay, coconut island, and maunakea background...the only disappointment is, the bathroom toilet shower area, needs a stronger vent circulation; to remove odor and steam when door is shut....very weak, and the TV flat screen needs to be larger...too small, need to change carpets in hallways and rooms, brighten up the hallways and the room walls...seems old fashion, I did notice the lobby areas are being upgraded... so will that mean a new face lift for the floors and rooms too? Would be nice, thank you for the Staff who assisted me and my family Very helpful and kind
Won’t stay here again...
The views from the room were terrific. The rooms were outdated and smelled. There is construction going on, so perhaps it’s improving. Front desk and restaurant staff were quite rude. Not just once but, everyday. Not welcoming to tourists at all. You’re better off finding a VRBO or AirBnB on the Hilo side of the Island.
Comfortable Stay, Fantastic Location
This hotel is being updated and the updates are nice. We stayed there for 3 nights. The rooms were nice. We upgraded $15 per night to get rooms with a balcony/outdoor seating area facing the ocean. We requested adjoining rooms and received them. We were given water bottles that could be filled with the hotel water cooler on the first floor. There is free coffee at the bar in the mornings. The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is right next to Coconut Island and the Liliuokalani Park and Gardens is within walking distance. There are beautiful Bunyan trees all around! The staff was friendly and attentive. There is a daily resort fee of $20 but parking is free.
Prompt responses to my concerns
We were at the Hilo Hawaiian in rooms 740 and 742 on May 31st - June 3rd. I made my reservations well in advance of our reserved dates but later found out the hotel was undergoing extensive renovations during our exact stay dates. I made the GM aware of my concerns, who upgraded our rooms to upper floor luxury rooms facing the ocean, allowed us to check in early at no extra charge and allowed me stay to stay in the same rooms after family members departed. Requests for extra blankets and rubber bathtub mats were promptly filled. But the best amenity was water bottles issued everyone with which we used their water cooler to fill as needed. In this day and age of $5 bottles of water, it was a pleasant surprise. Needless to say everyone was happy during our stay and would surely want to return. And oh yes, there was a spectacular fireworks show on June 1st on Coconut Island which faces the hotel. From the screams and yelling, everyone in the hotel enjoyed the show.
We love this place! It is quiet, very nice and the wait staff are so kind. The food is delicious as well! Take a walk around the grounds....beautiful! We also hopped on a helicopter and saw the volcano acting up.
