Great location in Bocagrande, Cartagena
Staying here for a few days break, Hotel Capilla del Mar being right by the beach, very welcoming and friendly staff. We booked a suite with a balcony overlooking the sea, great view and able to soak up some rays and sit out in the evening - very relaxing. The rooms were spacious, very comfortable king size bed. Buffet breakfast was more than sufficient to start the day and in the evening we ate at tge restaurant that offered excellent fish dishes There's a nice rooftop pool with a bar area. A very good and comfy hotel for families couples or singles..a very enjoyable stay
I really enjoyed the location in the middle of the Bocagrande beach. Service was very good, clean rooms, very helpful staff. Amazing views from pool at floor 22. Restaurant was excellent. Breakfast very good, I absorb the colombian cuisine and enjoyed the breakfast. I will most likely come back to this hotel again.
Helpful staff, good breakfast, avoid the spa
My husband and I just spent a week in Cartagena and stayed at Hotel Capilla Del Mar. The location was great, within about a 25 minute walk to the Centro Historico, with other amenities nearby. We upgraded to an ocean view room, which was great except for the small bathroom. But that was minor, as who spends a lot of time in the bathroom while on vacation?? Well, I guess it depends on where you go, but I digress. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and delicious, a great way to start the day. All of the staff members that we came into contact with were helpful and kind. The rooftop pool area was a plus, and I quite appreciated that there was bar service in that area. The only negative about this stay was the spa. We wanted to sit in the jacuzzi our first night there, and while we appreciated that they wanted to clean it before we got in, the water never got hot, and the experience was subpar, at best. We also got a couples massage, and I use the term "massage" very loosely. I get massages quite often, and have gotten massages in other countries. In fact, I had a massage on one of the Rosario Island beaches on day two of our trip and it was great! But this one at Hotel Capilla Del Mar was not at all worth what I paid for it which, admittedly, was not much, comparatively. The young lady put a ton of oil on my body, focused way too much time on my legs when I asked for focus on my shoulders and neck (which I asked for in Spanish, as I have a decent handle on the language), and basically rubbed me down, with very little in the form of actual muscle manipulation to release tension, which is technically what a massage is supposed to be. And when she did get to my shoulders, she attacked them as if she was practicing her karate moves. Neither helpful, nor relaxing. As I mentioned, this was a couples massage, and my husband said his was good...so, try at your own risk. In all, I would stay at the hotel again, but I would avoid the spa.
Great hotel, great location
This property has been around for quite a while, but it was recently remodeled. Rooms are very spacious, safes in the room, beachfront location, nice beach area. All our rooms had beach views. Very smart of some city governments that do not allow construction of any building on the ocean side, always across the street. Beaches and ocean should be for all to enjoy. As much as I love the USA, we built huge buildings that obstruct the natural beauty of the cities from all. Restaurant staff was incredibly accommodating for my family group of 11, 6 of which are vegetarians. Food was superb and prices were about the same as other outside restaurants. Very close to the Centro Historico and the Castillo de San Felipe.
