Secrets Experience
Overall the resort does a very good job entertaining! Most of the staff is super friendly and welcoming! They have pretty good food compared to other resorts. The resort was mostly clean and the beds were pretty comfy! However some bars would make drinks differently. Sometimes it was just a little different but some were major differences. The biggest downfall of the whole resort is the amount of people who smoke at this resort. They were allowed to smoke everywhere pretty much besides inside of places. It was rather hard to enjoy my time outside at the pool or night entertainment because of all the people smoking. This resort is definitely for those who want to party and don’t mind being around secondhand smoke. We would be at the none party pool and people smoking while in the pool and the wind would be blowing it right in our direction.

Second Time - Just as Amazing as the First
Another great trip to Breathless! We upgraded to Xhale again and were blown away by the special service from Roy and Emilio. They ensured our group had excellent treatment at the restaurants we went to and that we had special touches in our room each night.

Excellent week at Breathless…we will be back!
My wife and I spent a week in mid-January at this resort and had a wonderful time. Truly a fantastic winter get away from the cold and snow at home. We booked through Apple Vacations. Transfers to and from the airport went flawlessly. Our package included the resorts XHALE membership upgrade which we enjoyed having. XHALE membership included private check in/out, private beach and pool areas, unlimited no reservation required to all but one of a la carte restaurants and, most importantly, an assigned concierge to address any of our needs and/or concerns. Our concierge was Gricelda and she was fantastic! She provided daily resort schedules, made our reservation at the Silk City restaurant, and quickly saw that two minor issues we had (a malfunctioning room safe and broken toilet handle) were quickly fixed. In addition to daily texts she’d seek us out in person to see if there was anything she could do for or help us with. Gricelda even accompanied us through the checkout process! She is an asset to her guests and a credit to the resort as a whole! Muchisimas gracias Gricelda! The resort is beautiful and well maintained. The staff is extremely friendly and hard working. If you know a little Spanish it goes a long way conversing with them in their native tongue. Especially if you say something to them beyond the usual ‘hola’ or ‘gracias’. Their eyes light up when you do! Tip generously…bring a bunch of ones and fives. The staff works hard and is there for your enjoyment. A buck or two for a drink, something for the wait staff at the restaurants and , of course, the housekeepers goes a long way to making your vacation all the better. Show them the appreciation they deserve! Our room was spacious and clean. The toiletries ample and well stocked. A bottle of rum was provided and the mini bar restocked with waters, soft drinks and snacks daily. AC was fine but it would have been nice if we could run the AC fan alone for ‘white’ noise at night but we have an app for that so not a big deal. The food was quite good. We ate at all the a la carte restaurants except for the Kibbeh which was closed. The French cuisine Coquette was excellent. We ate dinner at the Spoon buffet only once our last night. We’re sorry we didn’t eat there more…it was truly excellent! The best of any of all inclusives we’ve been to. If you can’t find food you like at this resort you simply cannot be pleased. We like to veg on the beach and are not pool people. The private XHALE beach area is nice. You can easily find lounges at any time getting a palapa for shade will require being a little early but the crowd thins as the morning wears on. There is a small bar for the area which is nice. A big shout out to Andrea, a server on the beach, she’s very attentive, personable and fun. She took good care of us. The vendors are constant but if you’re not interested in what they’re selling a ‘no gracias’ takes care of that. The ocean water was cool and a little choppy at times but refreshing when the sun was out. There is quite a bit of old corals in the water and I would recommend wearing pool shoes. No Sargassum weed in the water to speak of. As I said…we’re not pool people so other than they were beautiful and clean I can’t comment any more on them. As for the nightlife…being on the downhill side of our 60’s we weren’t active in it. There was a decent mix of both older and younger people. Not a lot of kids but being January that’s not surprising. There is something going on almost all the time and the young people seemed to be enjoying it. Once last thing for my fellow Americans: my wife and I travel out of the country a lot. We Americans are not the most popular people in the world now so remember…when you do leave the U.S. you are an Ambassador for all of us. Act like it. We are their guests…treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve. Just like you would want them to treat you if they came to your town! Peace and cheers!

Breathless Punta Cana: A Breathless Disappointment (and a Waste of Money) - RIU Hotels are FAR Superior
My recent two-week stay at Breathless Punta Cana was nothing short of a disaster. I was utterly let down by every aspect of this supposedly "luxury" resort. I’ve stayed at several RIU hotels in the past, and they have all been significantly better in every way – from service and amenities to food quality and overall value. I truly regret not heeding the negative reviews before booking. Food & Beverage: The food was consistently below average, with a monotonous buffet offering the same tired selection rearranged daily. Everything was dry, dry, dry. The drinks were incredibly weak and watered down, a clear attempt to cut costs. Despite advertising premium alcohol, they were consistently "out" of popular brands. For the entire two weeks, they had no Baileys, Jack Daniels, or Beefeater Pink Gin. Even in the lobby bar during the evenings, drinks were served in cheap plastic glasses, a far cry from the expected ambiance. In contrast, RIU hotels offer a much wider variety of fresh, well-prepared food and consistently stock premium alcohol. The food is better in the restaurants at neighbouring Dreams and the menus are more expansive. The kids over there have better table manners than the adults at Breathless so it’s a no brainer, to head to Dreams in the evenings. Amenities & Services: The towel hut consistently ran out of beach towels by 11 am, forcing guests to either go without or use damp towels. Securing a pool chair required getting up before 7:30 am, an absurd expectation on vacation. The lack of a towel card system encourages chair hogging, as guests can simply grab fresh towels daily without consequence, regardless of whether they actually use the chairs. The ice machines have been out of order for the last seven days. Even when functioning, they are woefully inadequate for the hotel's capacity, emptying within minutes of being used and taking hours to refill. Turndown service occurred a mere three times during my 14-night stay. RIU hotels consistently provide ample towels, efficient service, and well-maintained facilities. Room & Maintenance: Room cleaning was subpar, with the balcony frequently being completely ignored. The floor was filthy and was never mopped; I noticed the same sticky stain near the door for several days. The constant re-tarring of the roof near the lobby created a pervasive and unpleasant burning smell throughout the afternoons. Hardly the scent of paradise! Maintenance issues were clearly not a priority. In my experience, RIU hotels maintain a much higher standard of cleanliness and address maintenance issues promptly. Staff & Management: Service in the restaurants was shockingly poor. The reception staff was consistently unhelpful, attempting to gaslight guests and deflect responsibility for the hotel's numerous failings. Both cash machines within the hotel were out of order, adding further inconvenience. The staff at RIU hotels are consistently friendly, helpful, and proactive in addressing guest concerns. Overall: Breathless Punta Cana is the worst hotel experience I have ever had. The numerous issues, from the inadequate amenities to the poor service and subpar food, made this hard-earned vacation a complete disappointment. I strongly advise anyone considering this resort to look elsewhere. It is not worth the money, and you will undoubtedly be left feeling as frustrated and let down as I am. I cannot wait to go home. RIU hotels offer a vastly superior experience in every way, and I strongly recommend choosing a RIU property instead. Traveler Tips: * Mosquitoes: Pack significantly more insect repellent than you anticipate. Mosquitoes are rampant throughout the resort – by the pool, in the rooms, on the beach, in the restaurants, and at the bars. The hotel charges exorbitant prices for repellent, ranging from $16 to $26 per bottle. * Sun Protection: The sun is extremely strong. Bring ample sunscreen, as it's priced at $26 per bottle in the hotel shop. * Snacks: If you find the food as disappointing as I did, be prepared for high prices on snacks. A tube of Pringles (Stax) costs $8. Despite being an adults-only resort, the atmosphere was often more akin to a rowdy spring break destination, and i’m talking people in their 40s and 50s. Excessive drinking led to frequent disturbances, including shouting and loud behavior in the hallways throughout the day and night. This is no tropical paradise!
