An Escape to Paradise
My husband and I came to Breathless to relax and celebrate our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived it was pure bliss. They greeted us with purple champagne and the check in was smooth. We were in a swim up room that came with a butler. Our butler Chase was beyond AMAZING. We couldn’t have asked for a more awesome or more attentive butler. He totally looked out for us our entire stay and was always accessible via the butler phone they give you. We will absolutely request him when we return! If you can get a room with a butler, I HIGHLY recommend it. In addition to Chase being amazing. We also enjoyed Twesha who was so friendly every morning during breakfast and I loved seeing her gorgeous smile. Laura who did omelettes and Danielle who made smoothies were also extremely friendly. Carlos who was cleaning the grounds one morning stopped and talked to my husband and I as we sat outside enjoying the morning. He was super friendly and funny. It was a joy to talk him about the island and soak up his positive vibe. One by favorite things about staying at Breathless was having access to Secrets including restaurants. The choices in food are expansive and everything was delicious! Also I drank for my fair share in alcohol as well of course lol. Overall, were already planning to return due to having an amazing time. I was actually a bit emotional when leaving lol it’s always hard to return to the states during the winter time. Don’t hesitate to stay at Breathless. They will take good care of you!
Best 5 star, boutique-like experience - Not just for 30's, 40's
Stay Feb 3 -13, 2020. Xhale club swim-out room 5027 Overall experience 5/5 ***** (the employees made a difference) + despite other reviews of noisy, party-like atmosphere for 30's and 40's, we felt the resort was a perfect combination of relaxation and activity (my wife and I are in our late 50's). The sound systems are shutdown promptly at 11 and there is access to Secrets AfterDark and Hard Rock if you’d like the party to continue + Butler service that comes with the Xhale rooms is worth every penny. Our butler LEON made our trip very memorable with attention to all details. He learned our interests and desires very quickly and provided outstanding service. + The Altitude restaurant supervisor RYAN was particularly accommodating to our needs and we appreciate the attention (and special wine) he gave us with a very special romantic eating experience. Chef MICHAEL served up an exquisite presentation and amazing culinary adventure. Special note that ANTONEIKA (restaurant hostess) was so fun and friendly. ... the meals we had here were amazing. + The experience at Fish Nets, Spoons and Culinaria were made extraordinary by the chef ANTONY and our wait staff ... especially TWESHA and TAKEISHA. + With only 150 rooms, there are loungers for everyone. You can also easily access the beach area and pools of the Secrets St. James and Secrets Wild Orchid. Some suggested improvements ... > need better way to advertise what is going on at the resort. Despite large displays showing the activities of the day and info available on Tablets in the room, it seems there is little awareness of what the activities are for the day as evidenced by the low attendance. > there should be a ramp from lobby doors to the terrace. Extremely dangerous. Because the terrace has a wonderful water feature and view it is VERY EASY to get distracted. I saw one fall and many near misses. There are also steps down from the reception desks to the Winks Bar area that are extremely dangerous. Watch yourself ! > In our room, a bright green/white light flashes from the smoke detector. We understand this is the indication that the device is working, but at night it is very disturbing. > every morning at 8am (we’re still sleeping or relaxing in bed) there is a huge racket outside from maintenance staff moving furniture and generally cleaning up the patio. We appreciate that but why at that time of the day?? SOME FURTHER DETAILS ... if you are interested: Private Transfer 4/5 **** Via JTL + arrived via private transport that we’d arranged separately. It's not expensive and it's worth it. Arrival. 3/5 *** + arrival at the resort thru a manned security gate and metal gated entrance. They knew we were arriving (name on list). Made us feel good about the resort’s attention to security - At checkin we were asked to sign a number of forms that were not fully explained or given the opportunity to read - lighting was very dim and print on the forms was very small (hoping we’ll be able to keep our first born! ;-) Room and amenities. 4/5 **** + room 5027 is perfectly situated .. great access to pool area and a short walk from the lobby. This room location even provides perfect semi-privacy from others walking nearby + awesome setup and atmosphere from the modern decor and technology The “ipad” style tablet is nice for overall resort info, but a bit over-the-top for controlling the room. There are wall switches for that so it’s a bit much to both with on the tablet. - Difficult to fully control the lighting. Especially having control over the toilet area lighting while the rest of the lights are out - The room service ordering on the tablet is easy, but you should be able to see a confirmation that your order is received and see status of arrival ETA. - Tablet does not offer ability for reserving spa treatment Room Patio. 4/5 **** + Nice to have swim-out set up. Very picturesque - not thrilled about the privacy available for the large jacuzzi-style tub. There should be a curtain available when using the tub Eating. 5/5 **** + Good selection of eating options ... restaurants: Altitude, Culineria, Spoons, Sofrito and Fish Nets .... plus the amazing Jerk Chicken station were all available + Altitude restaurant - rating 5/5. Led by Ryan the Altitude restaurant supervisor, we were presented with an exquisite set up of a romantic table and a wonderfully special bottle of wine. Ryan served us for the entire evening and his head hostess Antoneika was incredibly friendly and lovely to make our evening special. Chef Michael delivered a 10 out of 10 over-the-top five course private meal. It was a specially made surf and turf meal. The salmon salad - esp the well marinated salmon and the celery dressing were fantastic. (We asked Michael for his recipe and preparation technique. ) + Fish Nets restaurant rating 5/5. Takeisha took care of us for lunch one day. Her Service was outstanding and food was very good. Gazpacho, jerk wings, jerk chicken sandwich, BLT were all excellent. Takeisha remembered us and was very friendly in Spoon restaurant later in the week. Great customer attention. + Lunch at Altitude. - small bites (mostly french-style tartines). The hostess Shanae and server Twesha were outstanding. Extremely attentive. - Our only disappointing eating experience was when we went off the Breathless property to the PORTOFINO Italian restaurnt at Secrets - rating 0/5 - We did not understand why they bother with two hostesses ... they did nothing. We had a reservation for 630pm and did mot get get in until 650pm ... there was no attempt to rearrange empty tables that sat there that were set up for a large group that came in at 800pm. So why did that group not have to wait and we did. Ridiculous system. Once we got in, it was obvious they are set up to TRY to move thru as many people as possible, so the service lacks personal attention and the food is in a word ... HORRIBLE. Any good chef would spit out everything at this restaurant. Seafood Fettuccine came out cold — and we got linguine vs fettuccine. It also smelled very fishy, and the server tried to tell us that’s how it is supposed to smell. No it’s not - it’s bad! We sent it back and ordered the gnocchi dish. Even worse ... Gnocchi was floury and half cooked. The pollo alla Parmigiana dish was a mix of horrible dry chicken and a gummy bun on top of the chicken. It was obviously made long before, frozen, then just heated up. Nothing like a good chicken parmigiana should be. If you can’t make it, don’t call it chicken parmigiana. Maintenance items. 5/5 ***** + Although we did have a couple of maintenance requests, they were taken care of very quickly and completely. no cold water available in the shower. Bar service. 5/5 ***** The following bartenders were very good ... TREVARDA - Altitude bar DWAYNE - wink lobby bar ADRIAN - pool bar Departure. 4/5 **** + our butler took care of the checkout and departure preparation so this was very painless and quick. - could do with more attention to ensure we get on our transportation to the airport ___________
Best holiday in Jamaica to date
First and foremost you have to get the Exhale Club feature. The butler that comes with Exhale is worth the extra price. When are return flight got cancelled he handled the changes and we were stress free. LEON was our butler. THE BEST!!. Another bestie was OLIVIA. Her outgoing personality and attention to detail was outstanding. She was our waitress the first night we were there. We followed her to the different restaurants each evening so she could take care of us. SUPURB!! The room we had overlooked the pool and Montego Bay. It was equipped with our own jacuzzi. The Exhale Club feature allows you access to the St. James and Secrets. We will definetely be returning to this resort next year.
Great vacation for 3 couples late 30s-early 40s
Just returned from a great vacation to Breathless, Feb 6th-10th. 3 couples, ages late 30s- early 40s booked through Costco which could not have been easier. Check-in took about an hour, but only because we wanted all three rooms next to each other. There is a bar in the lobby so we simply ordered drinks (and champagne drinks came by too) and a jerk chicken stand right outside the lobby so the drinks and food made the time pass quickly. It is true that there is no "ocean front" property so you will not hear the sounds of the ocean, however the views from the room are so stunning looking into the bay and the hillside, especially at night, that we actually all preferred that view over other hotels that offer an ocean view. The walk to the private Breathless beach was a short 5 mins over the covered crosswalk and was very easy to find. We never had a problem finding chairs or beds with or without shade for 6 people, and we would usually arrive to the beach around 9:30am. There was no seaweed in the water or on the beaches. There is a beach bar serving drinks and food at this spot. None of us paid extra for the butler service however the bar was just a few feet away so it was no problem getting up to get a drink. We did walk over to the Secrets beach one day and as a Breathless guest you get access to all their beaches and pools. The beach access at Breathless had many rocks and it was difficult to get into the water, we still did it, but now without stepping carefully. I can see for an older couple this may have been a problem, The beach at Secrets had no rocks though and was an easier entry into the water. The water felt a bit chilly at first, but air temps were mid 80's so after a bit it didn't feel cold at all. There were plenty of people in the water for early February. The husbands went snorkeling every day and saw an array of fish, stingrays and jelly fish, the water was very calm and flat. They either bought their equipment along, or bought at the gift shop, they did not have snorkels to rent, but rather took out groups at certain times. Our group didn't want to wait for the designated times so just bought their own. They had kayaks and stand up paddle boards to rent as well. We only used the Breathless pool as it was never busy at all. Typically around 20-30 people in the pool in the afternoon, never felt crowded, even around the swim up bar. We had no problem finding a chair or bed around the pool, in the second row, arriving to the pool after lunch time. The water was a bit chilly when entering, but felt nice as soon as you submerged yourself. Don't worry about going to this pool in February, it was not cold. There was also a large hot tub connected to the pool if for some reason you needed to warm up. The swim up bar was also in this main pool and we had no issues getting drinks. The bartenders there were hustling and we had no complaints with the service there. We attended the foam party, which on that day there were more people in the pool, but it was fun and entertaining. There is also a rooftop pool, hot tub and swim-up bar. We did not pay extra or belong to a "club" to access this area, and had no issues going up on the rooftop any part of the day despite what the sign says and others reviewers may say. We enjoyed the food and found it better than some other AI resorts we've been to in the past. Definitely be sure to eat on the rooftop for either lunch or dinner. We ate at both Breathless and Secrets throughout the week and were pleased with both. Not fine dining, but certainly more flavor than others. The rooms were clean and modern. Had a few issues with the tablet charging, called the front desk and no one came, but we simply went down and got a new one with no issues. The AC and fan worked good. Good water pressure with hot water. Used room service a few times and had no issues with that as well. Depending on the time, deliveries would arrive 20-40 minutes after placing the order. The outdoor patio had the great bay view (we were 3rd floor) and an outdoor jacuzzi. Top shelf liquor is available and served. All-in-all we were very pleased with Breathless and were happy we were there and not at Secrets. It definitely wasn't a "party" atmosphere as it markets itself to be (except for the foam party day...that was a party). We enjoyed the smaller quiet resort feel that wasn't crowded with all the amenities of Secrets available to us. February was mid 80s during the day and a bit cooler at night, but we never had a need for even a light jacket. Pools and water were warm enough to swim in.
Stay in Nagril. It’s not worth going to Montego
I believe this hotel has 150 rooms. So just know you’ll never get to lounge by the pool or bay. All chairs are reserved before 6am. There are no stores around to buy a chair. Make sure to make an appointment to play tennis. If room says Ocean....it’s not the ocean your use to hearing or seeing. Bring a ocean cd. The gym is very small for 3 large hotels. FYI it will be packed all morning long. 6 treadmills and 3 bikes. Good luck It’s worth the extra hour to stay in Nagril. You can hear the ocean waves! Don’t waste your money at this timeshare. They put water in their alcohol. I can feel tipsy after one drink at home. I never got a buzz at this property. I bought me a bottle of liquor at the store and couldn’t believe how quickly I felt buzzed. The pool and hot tubs are cold.
