    Not a 4 star...

I have been to over 20 resorts in numerous locations around the world and this is not a 4 star. People would be up at 5 in the morning just to get a lounger by the pool. There are 3 pools and no loungers available. The beach is nice but the water is not suitable to swim in as a large pipe is constantly pouring sandy water into the shore. Food is subpar. Not much flavour and nothing that wowed me. Service was hit and miss. It is a large resort and we would ask for a ride in the shuttle cars and they would say no. I was in a wheelchair so that was not fun. People were stealing each other loungers and throwing people’s personal items in the bushes. There were arguments over loungers every day. Rooms were large and clean but the bedding always smelled bad. I am used to a musty odour but it seemed like they didn’t use laundry detergent to wash the bedding. Wifi is not great but I am on vacation so no big deal. Drinks were good and they pour heavy. All the ice machines are broken and a lot of the elevators are out of service. Canopies by the pool were taped off and someone said the one had been like that for 4 years. They put me on the 3rd floor with an elevator that didn’t work so we had to go to the other end of the building to leave the bldg. you do have to pay an environmental tax when you check in. $15 USD. Again no big deal. I have been to a lot of places and I won’t be back to this one. Not really worth what I paid. I did appreciate Lizabeth by the beach pool and Benjamin at the oriental restaurant.

    7 times to this resort

We have returned to Blue Bay 7 times in the last 4 years. It is always a pleasure to arrive and feel like we've arrived at our home away from home. The trip is always made even better by a few of your special staff. These three have always made us feel welcome and deserve to be mentioned for their quality of service, and excellent hospitality. Juan Montoya at Jaal-Ha. Also Eddie Hoil and Antonio Tellez who often work at the bar near the beach or the Black and White. Thank you to the three of you.. you do your employer a great service and you are the reason we return.

    Our 1st visit to Mexico

Check in / out (4/5) was very efficient, could use a drink area at this location during time leaving resort Grounds (4/5)- impeccably clean. Random smells of sewage along some paths, apparently the grey water is utilized for early morning watering, not sure on that though Food (5/5) Buffet - all 3 were very good Ala Carte - Mexican, Italian we’re both Ok, Seafood and Steak were outstanding French- didn’t go as a dish (foie gras) banned in many countries was on menu Beach (4/5)- beautiful to look at and workers kept up an amazing job raking to keep it clean. Was hard to walk on with bare feet as the sand is mixed with an enormous amount of broken off coral pieces (not resort fault) About 15 min walk along beach to north (left) is an amazing crystal clear river/lagoon Shops (4/5) decent shops on site Market comes to resort on one night - beach area has too many “walkers” trying to sell stuff..... I personally would be more inclined to purchase if there was a booth or small store area setup Drinks - (5/5)take your own “bubba” along to save trips to bar with small glasses. We tried various drinks at the black n white bar as a menu was present Room- was clean upon arrival, smelt clean (5/5) Maid service - (1/5)intermittent at best, random times during the day, piece of toilet paper which had fallen off remained beside toilet for 3 days. - one toilet paper holder ran out, then 2nd holder ran out with no extra roll in room, resorted to kleenex. i heard maid cart in hall and grabbed my own toilet paper Room Maintenance (1/5) We did have issues with our toilet not working properly. - chain fell off in tank, told front desk. sent maintenance who literally duct taped the chain to the handle arm - thought would work only to have the “flapper” not seat properly and tank would run constantly run, maid told maintenance, 2 guys showed up late afternoon and left and toilet was quiet. Sure enough one flush and flapper didn’t seat properly again. I looked in tank and no new parts. We had enough, left tank lid off and pushed flapper down after each flush so tank would refill (let the next patrons deal with this issue), we did this for our remaining 3 days. Entertainment (1/5) was poor. We could only palate 2 nights of this, we left on a few other nights. Best night was Moulin Rouge, beautiful voice on both lead performers. Night Noise Several nights music heard playing from nearby balconies until well after midnight. An entertainment facility with music, dance area would draw people away from the room areas where many of us want to sleep. For Canadians Exchange rate - CIBC at Pearson $1 = 16 pesos - Cancun Airport $1 = 14 pesos - Resort $1 = 12 pesos buy everything in pesos, don’t use US currency as hit twice with currency exchange - tipping we used various from 20 up to 200 peso at dinners Overall, we enjoyed our trip and would give this resort a 4/5.

    Good honest review from Saskatchewan

Hello everyone, I will start off by saying that we have traveled to many all inclusive resorts in Mexico in both the Mayan Riviera and Puerto Vallarta. We have traveled both with and without our kids (Girls - 8 & 6). When we first arrived at the resort, by the time I made it to my room, it was scoring a 1 star review due to me being grouchy, the kids being grouchy, being hit as soon as we walked through the door with Hotel VIP/Timeshare stuff and the Mexican buffet that was being served Tuesday night. I know - I am in Mexico, so I should enjoy the food, but I don't, so it made me grouchy. At other resorts they have a "safe" section of the buffet where you can always get a hotdog, burger, chicken nuggets, etc - but this resort doesn't - if it is Mexican night, you eat Mexican. As time went on (we were there for 9 days) the resort worked its way up to 5 stars in my books. Here is my honest review with my individual ratings of each item (5/5). Buffet - (4/5) - Food was AMAZING. There was lots of selection and everything I ate (except the Mexican) was very good (and I am a picky eater). The line-ups on some nights were very, very long as there is only 1 supper buffet near the lobby. Al a cartes - (5/5) - Excellent food. Great Service. No limit on bookings. The Steak in the Italian restaurant was one of the best steaks I have ever had. One CAUTION - you can only book 1 day in advance. Pools - (5/5) - Large pool with different areas depending on what type of mood you are in that day. There is a shallow kids pool, and volleyball pool, a party pool, and a quiet pool. There is NO swim up bar, but the service around the pool was very good (Alex) and your drink was never empty. Beach - (3/5) - Beach is good. Lots of chairs. Good service. Water is murky and washes up a lot of weeds every night, but the staff work constantly to clear them away. We never did go in the water as it was red flagged and murky every day. This is NOT the resorts fault, it just happens to be where the resort is situated along the beach that makes the water less than ideal. I am not sure if the water clears up from time to time, but during our stay, we didn't go in it. There is a lagoon down the beach, which is very nice (a little restricted with what you can do there). The walk to the lagoon is nice, short and beautiful. Rooms - (4/5) - Rooms are pretty standard. Large tubs. Nice balcony. Mini-fridge stocked daily. The housekeeping was hit and miss. The rooms were ALWAYS clean, but some days we didn't get enough towels, no face cloths, etc. Was it a deal breaker? Absolutely not. We just called down to the front desk to get the items we were missing and they were very quick to deliver. Entertainment - (5/5) - I would PAY to see this entertainment. The performers were actually singing and the band was actually playing. It was very good LIVE entertainment. A few cautions - the stage area gets VERY hot, there is no air movement at all, so prepare yourself. Also - the people that think they are smart and get a table seat at the bar located behind the entertainment will complain all night long and be asking you to move if you are "standing" watching the entertainment because you end up blocking their view. This is fine - because later on when you need a seat at a table in the bar area you can just go ask them to move from their table so you can be at the bar (sarcastic). Don't give in, if they want to watch the entertainment, they can get a seat in the theatre like everyone else. Kids Club - (5/5) OUTSTANDING!! The staff was excellent with the kids and would run up and say "hi" everytime they ran into them around the resort (Rosie). I had no problem letting my kids participate in the activities and even if they weren't signed up for the club, the staff would let them join the other kids in the pool and at the entertainment. The kids club also has a mini-pool and waterslide for the kids and lots of activities. Staff - (5/5) - Anything you want - you get! Period. They are amazing. The smallest to largest tip was appreciated and overall they just enjoyed chatting and asking how they can make your day better. I have never had such a pleasant experience at a resort with the staff. WIFI - (5/5) - Worked great in all areas of the resort on multiple devices. For the reviewers who said it was terrible - just restart your device. I couldn't get it to work at first, but once I restarted the device, it worked immediately and was fast and reliable. Transportation - (1/5) - This was the big problem. The shuttles they use to transport people around need an update pretty bad. They are old cars with manual transmissions that have been re-purposed to pull people movers. They smell of exhaust and they are few and far between if you are waiting for one. They aren't very big, so they were normally full by the time they got to our stop. The biggest problem was speed. The staff drive VERY fast on the golf carts and come around corners very fast. We had to constantly hold on to our kids when walking because the path isn't very wide and they didn't slow down. We witnessed a lady get ran over by the people mover. It knocked her out and did serious damage to her leg. The doctor was on scene quick, but the ambulance took over an hour. There is a simple solution to this problem - SLOW DOWN!!! Hotel VIP/Timeshare - (1/5) - I understand the purpose of trying to up-sell this stuff, but it can get pretty annoying. If I want to purchase, I will approach you. Simple. They are really smooth and seconds after we checked in, we were hauled to a table to explain the whole VIP thing, which we recognized right away an walked away. This can get overwhelming and if you don't have the ability to say "no" you will get sucked in right away. They are high pressure and act angry when you tell them no. This is NOT a game changer, just beware. All in all - It was a good resort that redeemed itself in my books. Would I go back? Yes absolutely.

    Old Beauty Still has Charm

We went here with another couple, we knew it was an older resort so we managed our expectations of the facilities. We were pleasantly surprised! The grounds and common areas are immaculately maintained by hard working staff. We were most surprised by how good the food was! The fresh fruit, guacamole and pico de gallo were my favourites. Comfortable rooms, though we did have to change due to an AC issue: the staff were so good about moving us. Our bags were moved for us and a key to our new room was ready when we got to the front desk. We like to get up early and go walking before breakfast. Because this is a big resort we had lots of room to get a good walk in. Walked 111km while we were there, a good thing considering how great the food and drinks were! The very best part about this resort though is the pleasant, accommodating and hardworking staff. This is our 8th trip to Mexico and our 20th visit to an all inclusive resort, and the staff had to be some of the friendliest and most hardworking people. Yes there was a few glitches here and there: the restaurant reservation process needs to be changed: Who wants to line up every day to reserve an a la carte restaurant? Overall though, we had a fabulous time.
