i would start by saying we were SO looking forward to this vacation , anniversary, relaxing, but. unfortunately this is not the place for that, to our surprise it was a VERY KID FRIENDLY resort, which you would think so much, (my fault for assuming otherwise). loaded with screaming kids, crying babies everywhere you went (except the one pool which you could still hear them).. love kids but not when im looking for a romantic week.. and this hotel is VERY expensive all around , was very disappointed in the pool areas, looked so holiday inn, needed work, the service was SLOW everywhere if could find them at all, couldn't go in ocean due to seaweed, and NOTHING activity wise to do at all in any restaurant. no music anywhere day or night.. so.. can't say i would recommend this hotel for couples.. full of little kids, like disneyland. and ate our final anniversary dinner at saffron banyon bay $$$$$, and as food was great, atmosphere could have been wonderful if not for the screaming kids next to us climbing all over the chairs , running around, breaking glass, and screaming at top of lungs for the entire time, it was SOOO disturbing and very disappointing.. ..
Another bad review for this fake Paradaise
The first one to check in at the hotel on 18th was my husband and the butler brought him in the room 806. Immediately he was hit by a very bad smell of humidity and he opened the windows in the hope it would go. He also noticed that the private deck pool was empty and he called reception to send someone to fill this up. They did send someone but in the operation most of the water from the deck went directly in the main bathroom. At my arrival in the room I felt sick by the smell of the mold and we immediately called reception to ask for a new room. At that time it was offered us a room of a lower category or to wait two days to get another room of the same category. We were reassured that with the help of dehumidifiers and appropriate ventilation we would have been fine. The situation seemed to improve a little the day after and the other one but I think it was just us got used to the smell. In the meantime all my private belonging hanging in the wardrobe or just left in the bathroom have absorbed the mould and the smell in a such a way that everything was brought to the laundry or disposed. While I was at the resort the day I have decided to leave that smelly room for another one I felt so sick with a gastroenteritis that I couldn’t leave the room for two days. The place is so full of mosquitos that everywhere you go is almost impossible to enjoy. Pools are overcrowded with drunk people and kids because the seaside is not even an option as it so full of seaweed! There are so many other resort in the riviera maya chose wisely!
Great family vacation
Food and service terrific beach was affected by seaweed but pools were great. Second time around and took all inclusive but felt attention without it (all inclusive package) was better but still great vaca and property highly recommended and will be back ...
The Best Wedding Experience We Ever Could've Asked For
Firstly, this resort exceeded expectations! We chose this resort for our destination wedding because Patty, the wedding coordinator, was incredibly responsive and the value for the all-inclusive for food and drink was incredible for our guests. The resort is gorgeous, there is so much to do, and I have never felt so energized. They took care of us and our guests, did whatever we asked (we were incredibly reasonable), and their concierge was absolutely fabulous. They will hook you up with whatever you would like to do! The property is incredible, the staff is lovely, and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful wedding with all of our friends and family. Global warming on the beaches cannot be helped, they have a large crew working 24/7 trying to remove the seaweed - this is maximum effort and resulted in at least 1 clear beach day for us during our near-week long stay. Food/drink service time is completely appropriate; you are on vacation and shouldn't expect New York City Expediency as it comes with stress and less genuine happiness. We never once felt like anything took too long because we were in such enjoyment of our time! We highly recommend this resort, you won't be sorry!
A little bit disappointing
The Fairmont was the 2nd hotel that we stayed at on our honeymoon and as it is ranked higher than our first hotel so we were expecting it to be better and sadly it just wasn't. For comparison the other hotel was UNICO 8720 towards Tulum. Firstly I don't want to take anything away from this hotel as it is nice. But it didn't live up to our expectations at all. Positives: - Lovely resort, very well maintained and picturesque - Spacious rooms with lovely big bathrooms - Upgrade on arrival - Free boat trip around the resort and lovely guide to talk you through all the wildlife Negatives: - As there are a number of different boarding options you really don't get the all inclusive feel. There is also not a great selection of restaurants or options for all inclusive guests who are there for a week. We were only there for 4 nights and we felt that we had eaten the same thing for lunch and dinner for a long time. It is not what you expect at an all inclusive. You also got brought a bill to sign whenever you wanted to leave an area or restaurant. Which was just annoying and unnecessary when you are all inclusive. - There are just not enough staff. The bar took ages to get served. The buffet breakfast was in a restaurant that could not cope with a busy resort. At peak times you could be waiting 20 mins for a table which I don't think is ok. - The bathrooms are lovely but the shower door has no gap to the floor so you cannot place a bath mat down. This resulted in me slipping twice and really bruising myself. Things to be aware of that I don't think are clear on the website: - The resort is really spaced out. You can walk around but the distance from the main hotel to the beach is about a 15 min walk. There are shuttles and bikes to get around which is fine but it is a bit annoying waiting for one at the beach as they get full at peak times and you can find yourself waiting. - The all inclusive gives you the option of 3 al a cart restaurants for diner and 2 al a cart restaurants for lunch and the one buffet restaurant for breakfast. There is really not much choice if you are there for more a week. I find this quite disappointing. - There is nothing but water in the mini bar. In our other hotel it was fully stocked the whole time and all included. This was disappointing for us. Also a note to mention is that for the last 4 years Riviera Maya has had a real issue around May with Seaweed. The sea is not the usual Caribbean beautiful blue you expect as it is full of the stuff. The beaches have mountains of seaweed and really you cant swim as you would expect. This hotel were really trying to stop it effecting the use of the beach but even with a tractor and about 35 men hauling the stuff out of the sea it was still not swimming conditions. However the rest of the sandy side of the beach was lovely and very pleasant. This seaweed issue will effect you no matter the hotel you stay at on this side of Mexico at this time of year.
